Chapter 12: Chapter 12
Chapter 12 More Troubles~
Brian was restless until he put a call to his mother to know what the problem was and it was about the stolen wrist watch and missing tape. He perceived Kate was behind it; since she believed he raped her and to think of the police demanding for the impossible was mind blowing- inviting him over for questioning. There was no stopping him about his decisions to stay back in Miami not even the police would make him compromise. Things had taken a down turn- when he surfed his Instagram to see Kate had displayed to the whole world his picture with the caption; Behold A Rapist And A Thief. When he dialed her line it wasn’t through also that of Tony. He screen shot and felt like wailing but fought it back when grandma walked in.
“You don’t stay idle in my house boy, get up and do something,” commanded grandma who was shocked at the sight of Brian keeping still and staring at her. She dropped the basket of wheat on the shelf and toddled to his side. “You don’t looking happy. You look like a burnt pizza, little boy. Who rattled your cage?” she asked, coughed and hastened to fetch her Starbucks Cappuccino coffee. She poured for two and invited Brian over for a drink.
“Look up, kid, you haven’t been a youth before. This is your first time. Whatever you’re facing right now is the repetition of someone’s problem that existed.”
Brian was pleased to hear her speak but sharing his private life with her wasn’t a thing for him; he didn’t want to bore her with his problem and make the remaining part of her life stressful. He believed everything was going to be fine in life or death and it would be a thing of joy if he would be alive to see the end of his affair with Kate, the end of all this drama. He wondered what could be inspiring Kate to take drastic measures against him. And at the moment he knew if Kate had a gun she would point it to his head and shoot a bullet into it.
“I have HIV and AIDS,” continued grandma, “Courtesy of love. This is the height of madness anyone in love could suffer and if suicide occurs it should be expected because depression kills faster than any servant of death. But look at me, today I am bubbling and thriving and fresh to the heels. If I don’t tell you I have the virus you could demand for a one night stand with me, just as kids have been coming for my hand in marriage. The message I am passing is that you have keys to every door in life. You alone will choose the door to open. I know you want to keep your life private, but grandma is here to coach you because I have travelled that path before.” She stroked his hair and smiled, “I don’t need to be told you are in love with someone.”
Brian broke down in tears and she hurriedly nursed him, “From this moment decide to be strong and happy. If you spend all your energy and vibe on heartbreak you are never gonna have a break in life and you will breathe hot towards everything and everyone because to you life has nothing to offer anymore.” She breathed hard and said “Your mom phoned me today about police inviting you over for questioning and when I asked further she said it was about a stolen gold watch and a tape. I know my grandson is not a thief so why would you be involved in such dilemma in the first place.”
Brian was all tears staring and sobbing.
“Come on wipe your tears, you are gonna answer the invitation.”
“I go nowhere granny,” shouted Brian, wiping his tears, as if he wasn’t going to cry again. “This is just to indict me. She knows I’m innocent but because she feels our love isn’t working out because of trust that’s why she’s doing all this.”
“She?” asked grandma, “Who’s this Cinderella that’s denying you hail-Mary-full-of-grace?”
“Never mind mom,” assured Brian feeling like sipping his coffee that had turned warm now.
“I never wanted to mind until your mom told me about your life being threatened by some candy ice gangsters.” She stood and toddled to the window. “You will honor that invitation just to show you are clean; to let the cops know the stool in your ass is edible. I will hire you kill-devil-security that’ll ensure your safety all through your stay in California and as soon as the interrogation is over bring your damn ass over here because grandma needs it.”
Brian chuckled and shook his head to affirm her words. He was going to honor the invitation as she said. He hugged her. “Grandma got you,” she said coldly.
There was a car hooting horn outsider. Grandma hastened to the window and Brian joined her.
A man and a dog alighted from the car and grandma beamed a smile. Brian was yet to understand why she was all smiles.
When the man entered the house and introduced himself grandma was happy that he came right on time and at the time most needed too. Brian gazed upon the white and black police dog as grandma disclosed that the dog was his; a gift from her. Brian was wowed as he hugged the dog and kissed it.
“Maybe your mom never told you,” added grandma, “When you were much younger you lost your dog to food poisoning and locked yourself up in the room for days because you felt bad for the lose. It was then I decided to get you now just a dog but a talented pro dog as this.” She pointed to the dog trainer. “You can brief him about the dog.”
“Ok, this is a super police dog, called Mr. Biscuit. This can be your best colleague and humble servant for the rest of your life. The dog is incredibly talented, inquisitive and quick to pick up tricks. It can learn anything new in five minutes. It can sit, stay and roll over also it can climb a ladder on its four toes, it can process 200 signals, 900 words and abstract thinking. For the records Mr. Biscuit can run your errands, it can fetch you a remote for TV, shut the doors, open and shut the freezer, fetch foods and dry the floor. There is no limit to what Mr. Biscuit can do,” concluded the dog trainer.
Brian was stunned. He stood, stroking his new pet and whispering to Mr. Biscuit. He gave his grandma hug and watched as the dog used its head to shut the door after the trainer left.
“This is a human dog,” said grandma.
“Indeed it’s,” replied Brian and hugging grandma yet again.
“I bought you this specie to kill your boredom and restore life to you once again.”
“I am speechless, grandma. What …”
He was interrupted by the ring of the phone; 911 was calling.
