Chapter 6: Chapter 6

Complete silence when those sentences came out of Maxwell's mouth. Lorelai looks bewildered by his word. She cannot believe that Maxwell has asked her to marry him that easily.

She wipes the tears from her cheeks, she shook her head. She starts laughing softly, thinking everything must be a complete joke.

"You're kidding, right?" hoping that he'll say yes. But she paused when she saw the seriousness and genuineness in Maxwell's face.

"No." he firmly insisted. "If that child is mine, marry me, I shall be the father of that child and that child will be the luckiest child to ever live. And besides, if you marry me, you can keep the house and have the money you want" he said he's voice serious.

She said nothing processing every bit of word she just heard. She opened her mouth halfway wanting to say something, but words failed to come out of her mouth. She sighs.

"So? Silence means?" No. This is the word that Lorelai wants to say, she is thinking twice as to why this man is straightforward and never doubted her.

"Will...you...marry...me?" he said slowly, trying not to sound impatient. He wants an answer, he wants her to say yes.

"Why? Just why? Marriage is a big deal! You don't know what you're getting into. You marrying me?” she said, almost whispering.

"I am being responsible, Lory. Marry me and I will protect you and that child at all costs. Money won’t be a problem for you either, besides I want an heir."

For Maxwell, he finds this a great opportunity to have a child, to have a rightful heir to his company without being tangled up in a complicated relationship, without commitment. In short no love is involved.

A marriage without love? Marriage because of being responsible? Marriage for money? These are the questions that are in Lorelai’s head as she realizes what he is saying.

Lorelai is thinking thoroughly, she feels that Maxwell is waiting for her to answer. She buys time by reaching over the bottle of water beside her and drinking it quickly.

"You know I'm not holding this against you right? You don't have to-" But before she could finish her sentence.

Maxwell lifted his hand and hold hers. He holds it gently as if it is fragile glass.

"I know, however, this is completely my decision," he assured her.

She sits up and stares at his brown deep eyes finding to see his intentions.

One night, she is now in front of this man. Hesitating whether to say yes, no, or just run away.

She thinks thoroughly, yes she needs money but it is already settled. He will pay for the house and it's done. But she thinks again, how could she raise this child if she doesn’t have any money? or a house to keep that child safe?

Will I regret everything with one decision? Lorelai thought she knows very well that yes is the answer to that question.

When she finally made a decision, she took a deep breath, looking for courage beneath her system.

She can raise her child alone, she knows that child will hate her if she throws the opportunity for this child to experience his father's love and a good life. But she doesn't want to suffer for her whole life for marrying someone she barely knows and she does not love.

"No, I won't marry you," she said quickly and she catches her breath.

Maxwell froze and was perplexed to her answer. He isn't expecting anything but he felt a pang of disappointment in hearing her final answer.

He nods, as he accepts his defeat. Lorelai has her own mind and she is such an independent woman, he knows very well that she won't be needing him.

When they got home both of them did not utter a word. Right now, silence is such a loud sound. Their breathing, the tick of the clock can ring inside their ears. But neither of them feels awkward even after the scene and revelation at the hospital. It is a comfortable silence, like both of them understand each other without words. Lorelai, never felt this way to anyone, to feel as if she was safe just sitting beside him.

Both of them got used to each other, they learned how to cope with each other, and how to not bump into other in just a span of weeks. Lorelai may be alone, but she is not lonely beside him.

"Hey, I'm gonna go upstairs. I'll leave you here, you should sleep too, rest." Maxwell said standing in front of her. That's where realization hits, she wants him, she wants him more than comfort she wants him to love her not because she is carrying his child.

Not thinking she grab his arm, and hold his collar lowering him so that she could reach his lips.

She kissed him passionately, and he answers by kissing her back slowly and sweetly. Lorelai stood up, holding his broad shoulders. While Maxwell caresses her back as the kiss deepens.

Just like the first time they kissed, everything fades, the sound of traffic outside, the tick of the clock, and the sound of the wind. Everything suddenly is about them.

He started kissing her neck, giving little marks to her. They are both driven by desire, and lust for each other. He come back to her lips his mouth swooped down and captured hers in a hungry, searing kiss.

Both of them think it's wrong... it's not the right time. But both of them continue as the fire ignites, something hot and molten which needed nothing so much as the touch of his skin against hers.

"You're perfect" he whispered in her ears. His voice is hoarse and full of desire.

"I want you." she moaned loudly, which was only for her thoughts only.

"I'm all yours"

His voice was low and seductive, and it almost made her feel like she’d been hypnotized by it.

They stopped and smiled at each other. They stood that way for a full minute, both catching their breath.

"I wanna be your wife." she finally said the thought that was lingering in her mind while his lips is on hers.

She wanted him....desperately, even though she is fully aware it will only be a marriage of convenience and nothing more.
