Chapter 5: Chapter 5
Louis glanced at Lucas sharply but didn't probe further. What does he mean by those words? Is Pamela's real parents known, her father to be precise? At least her mother was a princess.
"Pamela's father is Greg and Freya's elder brother. None of them know the real relationship they shared but I happened to know about it. She's their niece not by adoption but by blood relation.
Greg and Freya have the same eyes and hair colour. Compare the both to Pamela. I haven't found the right time to tell her how related she is to the Freeman's because she's one herself.." Lucas explained.
Louis discovered a secret. He knew Pamela's parents met in Middletown City but didn't expect that her father had the guts to get involved with a princess despite being from a middle class family. Love has no regard for class and status, indeed.
The funeral was conducted and Pamela was sobbing. Her eyes had gone red and Louis had held her in an embrace. Freya and Emma held each other and Lucas held Greg's hands.
They were going to leave when Emma asked "Pamela, aren't you going to help, to shorten my jail terms? Dad is dead, we only have each other now. You'll let me go back to jail, aren't you my sister anymore?" She was sobbing.
They sobbed and still sobbing quietly, but Emma's sob was the loudest. She is the one filled with the most regrets. She has hurt too many people and now, she would forever remain an ex-convict.
Everyone paused and turned to glare at her. She couldn't go in the same direction with her family. She has the police walking closely behind her. She's returning back to jail, her father's funeral is over.
Lucas glared at her but said nothing. She's brought this upon herself. Pamela cleaned her tears and sneered at her sharply.
"I should help you, why should I do that? You were the greatest enemy I have in this life and you want me to help you? Do you have a conscience at all, or the dogs have eaten it up?
After all you've done to me, you think you are qualified to ask for my help? I can help to prolong your days and years in jail. I want you to suffer and know what a hard life meant" Pamela gnawed at her.
"Pamela, please help her in any way you can. I know you detest us both. You are right to feel that way about us. But you can't forget that she's your sister.
You can help her and Mr Hayden too can offer help if you want to. You and Emma are the only two daughters that Freddie has. For your father, do this for your only sister" Freya pleaded.
She was sobbing the most. Emma was also sobbing. The table had turned around and they were the ones sobbing, not Pamela anymore. In the past, she's always the sobbing one.
"She's not my sister. I didn't say it, she did. You were there that day and pretended not to hear those words. We only grew up in the same house, but we are not related. We are strangers now" Pamela replied to Freya, her eyes shooting daggers at her.
She turned and glared at Emma and declared "The best I can do was that my boyfriend used his connection to get you out and attend father's funeral. I won't help you and I won't let him help you either. So get used to your predicament"
Lucas sighed softly. He would have wanted to help Emma but doesn't know how Pamela would feel. "Maybe I should get a good attorney to.." He was saying when Pamela snapped at him.
"Get a good attorney for what? You want to help her, right? She's your ex-wife and the one you cheated on me with. So now, you want to help her and let her out so you can continue from where you stopped?
Fine, go ahead. You've always preferred her to me, right? And even now, she's still the one you have chosen to go with. Then we can't be friends anymore. Just go, go to her and keep having sex with each other…" Pamela completely lost her temper.
"What is wrong with you, Pamela? Why are you picking on me? If you refuse to help her, and I decided to do so, why are you upset with that? How is that your business?" Lucas snapped at her.
"This is enough please…" Greg Freeman tried to intervene. The matter is getting intertwined and two friends might fall out with each other because of it.
"It is my business because you shouldn't help whoever I choose not to help. If I say no to Emma, I expect you to say no as well." Pamela seethed.
"No Pamela. It doesn't work that way. You can't decide what I choose to do or not to do. You can't interfere with my life and decision, okay?
You can help Emma and you can ask Louis Hayden as well and he won't refuse you. But you are not ready to help. I don't understand your twisted Personality anymore, Pamela.
You and I had a past and so does Emma and I. I just want everyone to be alright in their own ways and lives. So if I can help her, why shouldn't I, because of you?" Lucas declared.
He was furious and Pamela declared "If you let Emma spend a day less than she should in that jail, I will sever ties with you. You're not important anyway" Pamela seethed.
Lucas was angry. He walked over and stood before Pamela, he completely forgot that Louis was there and said "look at me Pamela, and repeat your last sentence" his eyes had gone dark.
"Lucas, don't put her words to heart. She's not saying those words from her heart. Just let it go" Greg pleaded.
The police officers couldn't keep watching the scene. They led Emma away, amidst sobs. Freya was now sobbing profusely.
Louis was unhappy with Pamela. She hasn't learnt from what he's told her. She's repeating the same mistake twice. Her temper always gets the hold over her senses.
"Please, don't quarrel because of Emma. Just let it go" Freya intervened. She's a widow now, and they hadn't even left the funeral premises. The last thing she wants now is to add more burden to her aching heart.
"Yeah, maybe I should never have been friends with you, if I wasn't important. You know what your problems are, you act irrationally, your senses suddenly get dimmed and after you have showcased your stupidity, then you'll realise what you've done" he declared and walked away.
Lucas got into his car and drove off. It's enough, he was cutting away a few ties from his life and that morning, he severed another ties with not just anyone, but his best friend and the only woman he had truly loved.
How can Pamela say those words to him? Yeah, he's not important. He had only been relating with the Grayson's family because of Freddie and Pamela.
And since Freddie is dead and Pamela is also dead to him, he would completely forget about that family. He cared less about Emma. He's only committed to helping Albert and he told Freya about it.
Until Emma gets out of jail, he would be responsible for that boy. He drove at a high speed, racing back to his office. He had left his official assignment and stood by her, but alas, he's not important anymore.
That's how some humans are. She's gotten back with her ex-husband and he's not important anymore. He had been a fool all his life. He will wise up and live for himself alone henceforth.
First, he was a fool to Emma and her son and now, he has just been awakened to realise his foolishness towards Pamela. Emma, Nelly, Pamela, always been a fool. A fool for women.
It's time the wine of drunkenness that clouded his senses disappears, even if it will leave a hangover behind.
"What you did was wrong. How can you talk to Lucas like that, what wrong has he done to you, to deserve such demeaning words? " Greg reprimanded Pamela and held Freya, walking out on his niece. Louis had long left her standing and got into his car. He was tired of Pamela's attitude and left her alone as soon as Lucas left.
Pamela walked back to the car and heard Louis making calls "if it's the organization’s decision, so be it. Book me for the zoom conference. And again, to check the rise in demand for robotic machines, I want to hear feedback from its users.
Arrange for a meeting between Miranda Alvan and myself and send a mail to Dr. Pamela Johnson as well, ensuring she handles the consultation aspect of the new project and get that contract finalised…"he kept talking on the phone as the chauffeur started the car.
Lucas has arrived at his office and calmed himself. His phone chirped and he didn't care to check the caller ID. It rang again and reluctantly he checked and saw that it was Louis.
"President Hayden" he said, his voice cold. He was unhappy, and it seemed life wasn't treating him well.
"Forget everything Pamela said. She's your friend and you've known her for a long time. Don't let this little misunderstanding cause a rift between you both" Louis said.
This is all he would say. The rest, Pamela has to follow up on herself. She must find him and apologise to Lucas.
"It's alright Louis. I just need a break right now. I'm sorry if I'm rude, but that's what I need right now" he declared.
"I understand how you feel. Take care" he said and hung up. He glanced at Pamela sitting next to him and didn't say anything else.
"Pull up and excuse us" Louis declared and the chauffeur did exactly that. When it's the both of them in the car Louis thundered "I can't live with a woman like you.
You think I'm so jobless to have accompanied you to your father's funeral, huh? You made a fool of yourself and I am greatly ashamed of you. Pamela, do you think we can truly get married again?" Louis blurted.
"I'm not forcing you to be with me.." Pamela was saying when Louis raised a hand "Don't you dare raise your voice at me. I am not Lucas Wright. Return to your mansion, I need some space" he declared.
Louis' words brought tears to Pamela's eyes. She reached out to touch him but he was unconcerned about her. "I can't live without you, Louis. Whatever happens, I promise to change" she pleaded.
