Chapter 15: Chapter 15
Every one loves a mid term...it's something i call a pause doing school activities as if ....after all school can't come and kill us at least they had the decency to cut us some slacks....suzy and i weren't left out in the joy of taking a break...infact I had planned to spend my one good week of a break by rolling with the day...
Today was monday...but a monday of no school, mum's off to work and dad off to some meeting with business associates...
Even in his holiday¿¿¿ at least I know man must chop so therefore if man must chop man also gat to work...but at least na spare a little break to have space for ourselves
Anyway...no one's except suzy and I were in the house...trust me it was supposed to be fun but how would it be when we both can't help picking up on ourselves....and worse still Nigerian mums' know that breaks should be breaks yet mum had tasked both suzy and i to prepare jollof rice and egusi soup...but before then we had to get to the market and bye some of the cooking stuffs...and I really wanted to get the cooking done on time so I could hang out with shola and bubbie since we had planned to go to spar...
" suzy na...ah ah do fast joor!!!" I hollered standing in the sitting room with my earpieces plugged in my ears and pacing about impatiently
"Wait joor....I'm already coming"she answered rudely...I could hear her cause my music wasn't on
" if you don't learn how to talk to you senior eeh trust me when i say you will surely then learn how to do the sign language " I threatened
" stay there well and be sounding like mum "she said sneering
" Susanne we don't have time abeg....hurry up" I call
" abeg spare me five more minutes...I'm coming"she said
" you've been saying that since the world began...don't lemme come there and shove you out "I hissed warningly
" jare calm-down na...what's up sef "
I didn't reply as I bit my lips gently counting from one to five and seeing no sign of suzy I quickly barge inside the room meeting her trying to curl her eyelashes...I huff dragging the eyelashes curlers from a grumbling suzy and tossing it into the dustbin as suzy yelped in pain holding her eyes....one more glare at her and i swung out of the door...
I was walking quickly without suzy...am not even sure she wanted to follow me and I didn't care after all I knew the road to the market and i could go with or without her...suddenly i paused hiding quickly beside someone's gate as I took a peek
I really don't think i wanted to go to this market alone.....
For crying out loud what is he doing here
And with..wait is that Helen??....okay no.it's kemi...
He was dressed in a basketball sports wears tossing the ball up and down while talking to kemi who wore an ash joggers and an ash t-shirt with a bandana around her head...smiling cheekily at the dude...I stared at my outfit....I wore a high waist tacky Ankara shorts that were a little above my knee and weren't too tight and a black t-shirt over a rubber fancy flip flops and i had my braids packed in some kind of way making a mental note to change into something more befitting for the eyes to behold when going outing with my friends...for now it was just the market....I felt a light tap on my back as I jolted back to my reality
"Jesus...!!!!" I yelled
"Christ of Nazareth!!!!" Suzy said as I heaved
"Thou shalt not call thy name of thy lord in vain "she said giving me a mock look as I sigh
"Seriously suzy that should be the least of your worries right now....jolting me back like that could cause sudden shock and even though i know in as much as you wouldn't miss me at least let me say I love you to my parents who care" I rant as suzy rolls her eyes scratching the back of her ears...
" who's the dude?"she asked as I creased my brows In confusion....she drags me out of the gate shaking her head
Suzy always thought that whenever I blab unnecessary there always was a cause and esp it was a guy...only her know how she got the stupid thinking from ....anyway there's still a suzy dragging me out to meet the one person I refused to acknowledge in my life...
"Suzy na...chaii don't do this...I'll cook everything you want me to and see I will even go to the market alone " I pleaded on rocky ears as she stopped to squint at me
"Anyone who sees you hiding in front of this gate would think you are either a stalker or petty thief or an armed robber, serial killer or worse still husband snatcher who just got caught...."
"I get it....I'm neither of those so stop...."
"Wait....isn't that senior Chris and senior kemi???" She asked excitedly
"Ehn eh...why are you now getting all worked up? " I asked looking at her suspiciously
Don't tell me my sister just joined the queue of unrequited crush???
" let's go and say hello "she said tugging my hands
" erm..no...let's just pass another route"I said
"And don't say he is the reason why you were hiding and why you are blushing? "She asked wriggling her eyebrows
" otondo....I'm African and we don't blush " I cuss rolling my eyes as she surprisingly throws a laughter at my comment...
" ...senior Chris "she says exaggerating her high pitched voice as I rolled my eyes mentally singing something lame
" hello su...erm...suzy right? " Chris say as he tried remembering her name
" yeah you're right and hello senior kemi " she greets as kemi smiles genuinely at suzy
" hi suzy and hello to you too Christy..." kemi replies mischeviously
" so..senior Chris do you leave around here?"
Chris heaves before replying sweetly
" first suzy call me Chris since we are out of the school gates and besides senior makes it sound...."
" weird....I know right" suzy finishes up the statement beaming
Trust suzy to be the happiest creature because of the call- me- Chris thing she hated calling people seniors but she had to since she was still in school...Chris gives me an acknowledging nod at me before answering her question
" secondly....I live two streets across but I met kemi and we decided to stroll around..."
" really!!!"
"For the love of ice creams it's monday and of course mid term" kemi exclaims dreamily
"Yup...so live for a week" Chris and suzy say simultaneously and pausing for a second before all of us including me burst out laughing...
" my gosh! How did you two do that? " I spoke my first words since I saw them
"Glad you found your voice " Chris say smirking
"What?!." I asked speechlessly
" are you both sisters? " Chris asked
" obviously...." Suzy was saying and I had to cut her off before she makes any form of sacarstic remark
"So how do you two know each other?" I asked
" well..." Chris started scratching the back of his head
"Umm...we..erm...Chris" suzy started throwing a look at Chris like she wanted to know if he was okay with it and at that Chris shrugged
" well....go on" I said
" Chris....after the ball incident...you needed to see him hyperventilating like some one who's wife was in labour..." suzy said as we all laughed
I really thought suzy never showed up when I passed out but it turned out that she'd but didn't want me to know and Chris too...I smiled knowing that I had friends and a sibling who could be everything anything you wanted her to be.
" you guys look so much alike....I mean in being cute and really tacky " he said and kemi scoffed
"Of course cause they are sisters..."
"Obviously..." he replied he nodded
" so where are you ladies off to? " Chris asked with a slight smile
" probably somewhere...what's it to you anyway ?" I asked
" woah woah woah....chill girl I'm just asking "he said with his hands hanging on the air in mock surrender
" better...cause we don't encourage toasters " suzy said as I chuckled pulling her out while chris rolled his eyes and kemi laughing uncontrollably....
It was nice meeting all of them so instead of saying that I threw them a 'see ya' as I waved goodbye at them...
