Chapter 28: Chapter 28

Chapter 27: Goodbye Ms. OG

I ran my hands through Ethan’s hair a couple times to wake him.

“Mmm… Keep doing that, feels good,” Ethan whispered sleepily, so I obliged and continued to stroke through his silky blonde hair. Why was he the one with such nice hair?

“So… if I do this, will you help me pass your chemistry project?” I asked hopefully. I hate organic chemistry and he’d intentionally given my final project based on that subject. Such a brat!

“Nope!” I huffed at his declaration and went back to working on my laptop, leaving Ethan sprawled up in my bed.

It was now February, almost the end of winter vacations, with the finals right around the corner and Ethan was here in my house lazing around since Dylan and Ember had taken over his apartment for the day, his words not mine. And for once, Ethan had used the front door.

And we couldn’t have sex because Eva had strict orders from dad to watch over me. And Eva seemed determined to make my life a living hell! So both Ethan and I were forced to be content with the way things were right now, it was either that or be grounded for the rest of my life. But on our first night, though, we had at least five rounds that had left me unable to walk a whole day! Ethan on the other hand, had been damn proud about it.

Men and their egos.

“What are you doing? That is most definitely not chemistry homework,” Ethan sat up on the bed so he could have a better look at my laptop. “Ah! Need any lessons, Ms. OG?” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.

“Shut up!” I glared. “Eva’s probably got bugs on every corner of this room, so watch what you’re saying.”

“Akira! Ethan! Did I just hear the L-word?” And to prove my point, Eva yelled from downstairs at that exact moment.

“Nope! Your ears must be ringing!” I yelled back to her.

“It better be. Dinner’s ready! Come and grab a seat!” Was her reply.

“Coming!” I answered, closing the laptop after saving my work. “Let’s go. I heard Eva saying something about making lasagna tonight.” By the time I placed my laptop on my desk and turned towards Ethan… the room was empty.

“Hey! Traitor! Who said you could eat for free!” I ran after him down the staircase.

By the time I arrived at the dining table, everyone was already seated, spooning out large helpings of lasagna onto their plate. “Great! No one even bothered to wait for me in my own house.”

“Hey! I live here, too!” Eva complained. “And you better watch that mouth in front of me sissy! I’m the cook remember?”

“How can I ever forget, sister blister?” I said, taking a seat right next to Ethan and directly opposite to Eva. “But I doubt you’d be here much longer, judging by the size of that rock on your finger.” I pointed to the engagement ring on her ring finger. Luke had finally proposed last week.

It wasn’t until a couple months back when I actually started to interact with Luke. He was quite a decent guy and was a junior surgeon at the City Hospital. He was transferred to Imphal last year and when he showed up on his first day at the hospital, Eva was the one who showed him around and Boom! It was love at first sight, his words not mine.

My dearest sister actually blushed, busying herself with her lasagna. It was Luke who answered. “We haven’t decided on a date yet so it’s safe to say that you get to deal with her for a few more months.”

“Hey! What do mean ‘deal with her’?” Eva narrowed her eyes at Luke, which had him whispering in her ear and her blushing again.

Eva sure has outdone herself tonight. I would miss this when I go off to Uni. Hmm… another topic to discuss with Ethan before the finals. I went back to devouring my plate when Luke, Eva and Ethan started discussing something about a recent case they had to deal with at the hospital. At first, I’d been hesitant to introduce Ethan to Eva. No doubt she was more mature and prettier than me, and even around the same age as Ethan. But as it turned out, I didn’t have anything to worry about. Eva had simply treated him as my boyfriend and Ethan had treated her only as my older sister. They’d become friends but I could tell they had no romantic interest in each other. What a relief that had been. And I admit, I’d felt ashamed to have thought otherwise.

“Here.” Ethan placed a red velvet box in front of me when there was a break in their conversation as Eva argued about some doctor stuff with Luke

“What is it?” I put down my spoon.

“Open it and find out.” Ethan smiled as I took the small box in my hand and flipped the lid open.

Earrings! And they were absolutely gorgeous. A single flower was set on a gold ring which dangled from a hook, the petals gold and silver and the flower had a pink pearl in the middle. This must have cost him a fortune! “Ethan I can—”

“I’m allowed to spoil my girlfriend once in a while and you never ask for anything.” He picked up one of the earrings and placed it on my ear after brushing the hair off my nape. “You look beautiful.”

There was a tenderness to Ethan.

The rest of dinner passed by smoothly, some small talk and loads of laughter. I could only wish we could stay like this forever. But with school coming to an end, we’d soon be going different ways.

“Still working on that?” Ethan peeked over my shoulders. “Aren’t you supposed to study for your finals?”

“I did. Before you hurled your ass through my window.” I answered.

“You know the offer still stands right?” He laid down beside me so that I couldn’t avoid eye contact.

“First, Eva and Luke are right beside us and second, you might never hear from Miss OG again.” I said.

“Huh? What do you mean? You're quitting?” He sat up, surprised, and also disappointed. After all, he was my numero uno fan.

“Not really… well, kind of. My manager told me about this competition all over the States when I went to submit my draft to her, it’s about writing an original novel on any genre the writer prefers. Whoever wins—I think there will be one from each genre—will get their book published nationwide and sign a five-year contract with one of the famous publication houses.” I explained.

“Ah! That’s great! You decided on what to write yet?” he asked curiously, laying his head on my lap as he did so. “I could give you—”

“No!” I glared at him, placing my laptop away again. I couldn’t write a single line with him loitering around! “And I know exactly what to write." I smirked.

“Somehow, I find something very fishy about that…” He raised an eyebrow at me in suspicion, but gave up when I didn’t answer him. “Oh, fine! Be that way!”

“You can read about it once it’s complete and published.” I moved his head off of my lap. “Now get your ass home already! It’s nearly 11:30p.m.!”

“I will, I will.” He got off my bed and came to my side. “So it’s goodbye to Miss OG then? For real?”

“Yup! It’s finally goodbye to Miss OG,” I confirmed. “That book I wrote this fall, it’s the last installment. I want to give writing a try. See if I really have it in me… you know…”

“I’m sure you do.” His lips met mine briefly. When he pulled back, his eyes were emerald. “I better get going before Eva decides to call your dad because I’m looking at you the wrong way.” He joked.

“Hmmm… you’re probably right.” I pulled his head down for another kiss. “I’ll see you at school.”

“Yes.” He gave me another quick kiss before heading towards the window.

“You know Eva already knows about you being here, right?” I asked, and when he turned back to me confused, I pointed towards the door. He gave me a sheepish look and changed directions, heading out the door. I heard him say his goodbyes to Eva and Luke before the front door closed shut.

And I realized I still hadn’t asked him the most important question of my life. What would happen to us after I graduate?
