Chapter 22: Chapter 22

Rolling over I watch as the sun comes up. Most of the night I spent crying. I can feel my eyes are puffy, so I get up and wash my face with some cool water.

Seeing my reflection in the mirror, I start to get a heated feeling growing in my chest. The anger slowly coming up and taking over.

I should never have let someone in again, this is where I always end up. I knew better. I fall hard and fast.

Liam though, to just basically run out like that.

I shake my head. There is nothing I can do but move on and focus on my shop. I tried to call him twice and sent one text, that is still sitting on unread by him.

Taking a quick warm shower, helps to soothe my muscles. I needed this, it is like a new slate for that day.

I walk in my towel to my closet. I grab a pair of jeans with a plain black blouse that has some lace work on the sleeves and chest area.

Throwing on the clothes quickly, I slip my flats on and grab my phone.

Walking out to the kitchen, I stare at the counter. Nope, not even hungry. Coffee will be the best thing, and I know just what I am making when I get in.

Grabbing my wallet and keys, I spot the jacket on the rack. I put it back there after coming inside last night. His cologne wafting from it still makes my knees weak.

No. That goes back today. I don't want it here.

I use one finger to hold it out and toss it in the trunk of my car.

I sit in the car and look at the time. If I leave now, I will be early to the shop by an entire hour.

I dail Maddy's number.

"Hello." Maddy answers on the third ring.

"I need you to give something to Alex this morning and he can give it to jerkoff." I quickly get out.

"What happened?" Maddy's voice takes on a worried sound.

"Liam basically ran out last night and he wouldn't answer my calls or text. So, when you come in get in the trunk of my car and give his jacket to Alex." I huff out.

"Sca.." Maddy starts.

"Please let's just drop it for now. I am just angry at how things happen and I don't even know what I may have done." I interrupt her.

"Okay. I will be in ten minutes before opening time." Maddy sighs.

"Thanks." I hang up a second later.

Putting the car in drive, I make it to the shop in no time. I go to the back and see a box laying on the ground.

I unlock the door and pick up the box. Taking it to the office, I open the lid and it is my banner.

I gently fold it and unlock the front door. I run to the back and grab the ladder. Carrying it out the to front, I place it to where I can climb it easily.

Next I find the screws to hold it in place. Making sure I have all the tools, I pick up the banner and climb up the ladder.

I am working on the last screw when I hear a car pull in.

"Just what in the world are you doing up there?" I hear Maddy exclaim.

"What does it look like? The new banner came in and it had to go up." I roll my eyes, still feeling a little sour.

It isn't Maddy's fault, I just have to stop being snappy.

"You shouldn't be doing that alone." Maddy announces.

"Thanks mom." I let out a small laugh.

"It is in the trunk." I point to my car.

Maddy walks over and gets the jacket out.

"I will be back in a minute." Maddy waves.

I nod my head and climb off the ladder. Taking a few steps back, I smile at the banner it truly makes the little shop pop.

I walk inside and washing up to get started brewing.

Maddy is back before the first machine is done brewing. We get to work and tend to customers.

Before I know it time has left me and it is after lunch. Days like this, just staying busy are the best sometimes.

"Scarlett, you have a delivery." Maddy speaks up to where I can hear her from where I am in back.

I let out a small sigh and walk out to the front.

A guy is holding a huge vase filled with flowers. Oddly enough it is my favorite flower, lillies.

"Scarlett Anderson?" The guy ask.

"That is me." I nod.

"You have a delivery from a Liam.." The guy talks while looking at a piece of paper.

"That is okay, thank you but please just take them back." I interrupt him, just hearing his first name is enough to know I really don't want the flowers.

Even if they are my favorite, I don't want pity flowers.

I pull out a twenty and hand it to him.

"I am sorry you brought them just to take them back. Please just consider this a tip." I give him the money and quick to spin, walking to the back.

My eyes brim with fresh tears all over again. No. I can't do this here.

Maddy follows after me a few minutes later.

"Scarlett, you really should hear him out." She whispers.

"Your phone has went off, but you have ignored it." Maddy finishes.

"It was a phone call from him, but we were busy with customers. I will not let my shop hurt just because he is wanting to play some game with me. I spent most of the night crying and hurting. I can't live through more pain and games." I quietly reply.

"Alex has told me somethings, Scarlett. I really think you should hear him out." Maddy rubs my arm.

"He ran out Maddy. I tried talking to him, but he choose to ignore me. This is not high school, it is the real world and right now I don't think he has a good enough answer as to why he done what he did. It is to fresh for me." I shake my head.

Maddy goes to say something when the door chimes, signaling a customer walking in. She lets out a small sigh and goes to the front, while I go back to experimenting with flavors again.

Thanksgiving is coming up and those flavors need to be perfect to go on the menu tomorrow. I purposely turn my phone on silent, since it has rang twice more since lunch hour due to him trying to call.
