Chapter 264: Chapter 264
Holding Jude Sinclair’s small hand while strolling along the park path, Seraphina Sinclair felt completely at ease.
Jude looked at her with some concern and softly reminded, "Mommy, is it really okay for us to sneak out behind Desmond’s back?"
"I’m having a good time, don’t bring up that little tyrant," Seraphina rarely got a chance to relax and just thinking about how Camille White was managing everything lately made her furious.
Even though she knew it was for her own good, she’s not a child anymore and wouldn’t get into trouble so easily.
After being indoors for so long, her body ached a bit, wouldn’t going out for a walk be better for the baby’s growth?
Now that they were already out, Seraphina decided not to overthink it and held Jude’s hand as they continued walking forward, "Jude, if anything urgent happens, you have to protect Mommy."
"Mommy, I’m just a six-year-old kid," Jude couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
"Aren’t you a man?" Seraphina asked earnestly.
Seraphina smiled in satisfaction, "Exactly, as a manly man, isn’t it your duty to protect Mommy?"
"That’s true, but I..."
"Yes, it is, let’s go, Mommy is taking you to eat something delicious." Seraphina pinched Jude’s cheek, tempting him, "Haven’t you missed having hot pot for ages? Want to try some?"
Because of his delicate stomach, Jude had always eaten light food, avoiding anything too spicy or greasy. The last time he had hot pot seemed like it was before New Year’s, which was about six months ago.
Jude couldn’t resist the temptation, and all previous worries instantly vanished, happily following Seraphina along.
No matter how mature he might seem, he was still a child after all. Seeing Jude’s excited expression made the smile on Seraphina’s face even brighter.
The two snuck into the hot pot restaurant, since neither mother nor son could handle spicy food very well, Seraphina ordered a mild spicy base with sesame sauce. Though the spiciness was minimal, for the two of them it was the limit.
"Mommy, I want spicy," Jude wasn’t quite satisfied.
"Bear with it, if Desmond finds out we’re having hot pot, we’re in for a scolding. Let’s settle for today," Seraphina made a helpless expression towards Jude.
Jude was never a child to throw tantrums, so since Seraphina said so, he obediently kept quiet.
Even with just the sesame base, the two enjoyed their meal immensely. After they finished eating and were about to pay the bill, Jude looked up and spotted a familiar figure.
He was facing the door of the hot pot restaurant and saw Desmond Fairchild and Nina Kerr entering hand in hand.
He slid further into the sofa, and sitting across from him, Seraphina noticed his movement and asked with concern, "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing, Mommy, I’m just cold from the air conditioning outside, so I’m moving a bit closer," Jude grinned, slightly tilting his head to hide his small body.
Luckily, there was a tall potted plant right in front of their table, so Jude moved further in, and Desmond didn’t notice him.
"Mommy, let’s finish up and head back quickly after this meal," Jude suddenly put down his chopsticks and said to Seraphina.
Seraphina was puzzled, "We just got out, didn’t you promise to accompany me the whole day?"
"It’s getting hotter on the island lately, Desmond said you shouldn’t stay out too long in case you get heat stroke," Jude took a sip of orange juice and hastily gulped down some beef tripe, "Mommy, I’m full."
Seraphina looked at Jude incredulously, filled with doubt, "Aren’t you usually the most enthusiastic about hot pot and eat quite a lot? What’s up today, are you feeling unwell?"
Seeing that most of the dish on the table was untouched, Seraphina felt something was off, what’s going on with the kid today?
Could it be the broth is not spicy enough, thus not to his liking?
On second thought, it’s not the first time they’re eating , Jude has never been this picky before.
The more she thought, the stranger it seemed, and Seraphina asked him seriously, "Be honest with Mommy, what’s going on?"
"Nothing..." Jude feared acting too suspicious which might be caught by Seraphina, so he kept silent.
"Jude, who taught you to lie at such a young age?" Seraphina frowned, her expression turning a tad stricter, "Are you going to say it or not?" ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ novel※fire.net
Knowing Seraphina was perceptive and definitely noticed something was wrong, Jude confessed reluctantly, "I just saw Dad and that old hag Nina Kerr coming here, they just walked by."
Seraphina’s expression became stiff, her tone turning cold, "That’s not your dad."
"Oh," Jude nodded, "If Mommy says it’s not, then it’s not. I, Jude Sinclair, don’t need a dad like that."
Even though Desmond had been really nice to him before, if he hurt Mommy, then they were enemies.
Even if Desmond was the reason he existed, to Jude, the love and care from his mother surpassed everything.
"Keep eating, no need to give up your seat for some irrelevant people," Seraphina’s face turned slightly cold, even if they were to meet head-on, the one who should leave was not her.
Even saying that, knowing Desmond was also at this restaurant, Seraphina couldn’t fully enjoy her meal.
Just lost in thought, a grating voice rang in Seraphina’s ears, "Hey? Are you Seraphina Sinclair? I didn’t expect to see you eating here, what a coincidence."
"Who are you?" Before her was a completely unfamiliar face, Seraphina couldn’t recall having met her before.
"I’m Yuna Tate, your high school classmate, do you remember?" Yuna, seemingly overly excited to see Seraphina, spoke loudly enough to attract the attention of other diners.
Seraphina frowned slightly and shook her head apologetically, "Sorry, I don’t remember."
Yuna seemed a bit disappointed but soon perked up again, "Not remembering is okay, I didn’t expect to see you again, you’re such a big name now, I’ve been hearing your name a lot around here lately."
"Is that so?" Seraphina’s smile was forced, wishing not to get too entangled with Yuna Tate.
"It’s been ages since our class met, you don’t mind if I sit, do you?" Without waiting for Seraphina’s permission, Yuna sat down on her own, calling the waiter, "Waiter, another set of tableware here!"
Jude wrinkled his little nose in disapproval, rudely speaking to Yuna, "Excuse me, old lady, who are you? Are we really that familiar with you? My mommy said she doesn’t remember you, and now you sit down expecting a free meal? Do your family know how thick-skinned you are?"
