Chapter 44: Chapter 44

Two days before Grayson's simultaneous birthday and engagement party. And since it's vacation time, Grayson and Cady are both busy taking care of the preparations. The celebration will be held in a function hall at the Shangrila Hotel. The two are often together all day because of this. Cady has no place to be happy while Grayson is still struggling and hiding his confused feelings and thoughts.

Kendall has also prepared himself. And as each day passes he preoccupies himself with communicating with what is happening at headquarters. He couldn't wait to get back. He plans to switch to another colleague to watch over Grayson. She will just end the man's birthday celebration then she will say goodbye to it.

He is currently active because he has heard that someone has spoken to the late members of the Pirus. The end of the case is fast approaching. There is only one thing he is frustrated with. He was not involved in the operation of the syndicate's den attack but on the other hand it also improved because the operation coincided with Grayson's birthday celebration. Somehow he also wanted to be with Grayson on his birthday before he finally said goodbye.

"Are we going straight to the hotel?" he asked the couple sitting in the back of the car before driving them.

"Yes," Grayson replied sparingly.

Kendall gave the two a spirited smile. He was used to seeing it together so his chest was numb.

On the way Cady glanced at Kendall in the mirror. He makes the companions feel. In recent days, he has noticed something strange in Grayson's behavior when it comes to the policewoman. Although she sees no doubt from her boyfriend for their engagement but there is a growing nervousness in her chest. As early as possible he should pinpoint the cause of what he is afraid of.

"B-Grayson I want to tell you something. I don't know if it's the right time to say it ... but I think there's something wrong with my body lately," he said hesitantly.

"Why? Are you sick?" the man asked worriedly.

"I don't know ... B-But I'm delayed with my period and it's been more than a week already. It never happened to me before ... II think I'm pregnant, Grayson."

No one spoke.

There was a temporary silence.

Grayson didn't know what the reaction would be. He swallowed repeatedly. He avoided looking in the windshield so as not to see the look of the driving maid.

Meanwhile, Kendall almost braked hard at what he heard. He wanted to stop the car in the middle of the road. Gradually his hands grew cold. There were tears in his eyes again. His chest was stabbed again. He thought the pain was over. But why is someone still chasing?

Still no one speaks. Everything is still quiet. Until Kendall's phone rang. For several minutes the cellphone rang repeatedly. Kendall was unable to answer the call. His mind was flying. She could hear nothing but repeated words echoing in her mind saying Cady was pregnant. He only realized when Grayson tapped him on the shoulder.

"Kendall you're phone is ringing," it said gently.

The hand trembled as he wore the headset. He sneezed before speaking.

"H-Hello ...."

"Kendall go to my hospital now!"

"D-Jacob? B-Why?"

"Grandpa had a serious heart attack! We're bringing him there now!"

Kendall dropped the phone. None of his own stopped driving in the middle of the road. She gasped as tears rolled down her cheeks. He could not move his whole body. He was being honked by tailed vehicles but he remained an idiot.

Grayson shook his shoulder again. "Kendall, what's wrong with you? Kendall wake up!"

Only then did he wake up again. Confused, he turned the car around to make his way to Jacob' hospital.

"Kendall where are we going?" Grayson asked confused.

Kendall didn't answer. Her tears were secretly dripping while driving. In those moments his mind was empty except for his beloved grandfather. Extreme fear envelops him. Nothing bad can happen here. It will wait for him. He promises to visit it next week and it will wait for him at home, not at the hospital. Its attack is not severe. They can also get it out of the hospital right away.

Grayson could clearly see Kendall's quiet crying. He did not know the reason for her tears but he could feel his heart being crushed by what he saw. She loves to embrace and embrace it. "A-Kendall what's wrong?"

Kendall didn't answer. He hears nothing. He doesn’t care about his surroundings. The only thing running through his mind was to get to the hospital right away and see the grandfather.

When he arrived in front of the hospital Gen. was exactly on board. Whitlock on the stretcher.

"L-Grandpa ..." his eyes widened and he said tears as he took off his seatbelt.

Her tears flowed faster and her chest tightened even more in front of the witness. His grandfather was unconscious. It is pumped with oxygen as doctors scramble to pump its chest. He hurried out of the car. He chased the stretcher until he reached it.

"Grandpa ... Grandpa..wake up! It's Kendall. Let's talk grandpa! I'm already here. I'm visiting you. Aren't you looking for me? I'm already here grandpa. Don't make fun of me like this," he continued crying he pleaded with the old man with the blackened face.

Jacob and Dorothy feel Kendall's impending hysteria. They stopped the girl from following the stretcher.

"That's right Kendall-"

"Wait Jacob, I'm still talking to grandpa. He hasn't answered me yet ... Let me go Ma!" Kendall's struggle.

"That's enough Kendall. Your grandpa won't answer you," was the tearful response of the lady who was also pitiful to the child.

"No Ma. Grandpa will answer. He's just joking. He's just making an excuse for me to go, isn't he? Let me go."

"Kendall Lolo is going to operating room now-"

Kendall hugged the brother and sobbed. "I-It's my fault Jacob. I-I should have visited him right away. I should have followed what you said. B-Maybe grandpa is upset with me. Maybe grandpa is sulking ... that's why he's like this-"

Jacob stroked the back of the incessantly crying brother. "It's not your fault Kendall. Nobody wants this to happen. Let's just pray he's safe."

"Nothing bad will happen to him, right Jacob? He won't leave me like that. I still have a lot of unfulfilled promises for him. We still have a lot to talk about ..."

Jacob was silent for a moment. As a doctor, he knew his grandfather was ill. "I think he will be okay soon Kendall. He only needs a slight operation. The important thing is that he was given first aid right away. So stop worrying. Just keep being calm and keep thinking that nothing bad will happen to our grandfather," he said. he said.

Kendall was encouraged by what the brother said. He slipped out of her embrace and headed alone to the operating room. He sat down on one of the chairs lined up in the hallway outside the said room. He prayed silently as he rubbed his face.

"A-Kendall are you okay?"

He lifted his face and turned to the source of the voice. "B-Grayson ..."

The man was standing in the middle of the hallway near Kendall's seat. Concern was on its face. But his feet seemed heavy as he approached the grieving maiden.

Kendall wiped away her remaining tears and normalized her face. She didn't want the man to feel sorry for her. He sat up straight. Sneeze and avert puffy eyes.

"Why are you still here? I can't drive you to the hotel anymore," he said stiffly.

"I-it's not about that Kendall ..." Grayson answered weakly as he slowly stepped closer to him.

"Are you worried about me?" he asked directly.

Grayson didn't speak but the answer was obvious on his face. Kendall saw in the distance Cady standing and waiting. What he heard in the car from the woman came back to his mind. He turned his eyes to the speechless man and grinned.

"If you're worried or you feel sorry for me now I'll lead you. I don't need that. Someone needs that more from you starting today Grayson."

"Kendall I want to stay by your side today-"

"I don't need you here. Cady still has a lot to do for you today so leave now."

"A-Kendall ..."

"You're leaving Grayson."

Grayson hesitated for a moment but when Kendall's eyes widened the man could do nothing but follow the stubborn girl.

"I'm sorry for what happened to you today. I'm really sorry. I hope I can do something to lessen your heavy feeling ..." Grayson turned around and his feet were heavy. He turned to the woman again with a recollection. "Kendall I'm hoping that I can still see you on my birthday."

Kendall didn't answer and without reaction he just looked at the man. Grayson slowly turned around and sluggishly walked away.

"Grayson!" postscript maiden call.

The man turned around.

Kendall stared at Grayson for a moment. For the last time she wanted to see the face of the man who first made her heart beat.

This is their last meeting ....

He will never come back next to it ....

It's time for him to release it completely ...

"A-Kendall-" Grayson said nervously after noticing the girl's meaningful stare.

Kendall gave him a frugal smile. "Be happy Grayson. M-love the woman you can marry ... Be a responsible man. Take care and love your future child ..."

Grayson could not speak. He also stared at the girl for a long time. In the words he uttered, he could feel what it meant. Wants to shed her tears. It's painful to accept ... it's very painful to face and he doesn't know if he can handle it. But this was the truth ... a very bitter truth for the two of them that he had to accept.

He nodded and forced a smile. "I-You too Kendall ... I-Always be careful."

The girl nodded and smiled at him as well.

He stared at Kendall for a while while weighing his chest ... until he accepted that he had to give up. He slowly stepped on the resisting feet and began to walk away. He tried to hide the bleeding heart. The girl was erased from his mind but the brief memory it gave him again he will never forget.

Kendall didn't take his eyes off the back of the receding man. He let it deliberately disappear from his sight. And when it finally disappeared he moved his eyes to the front wall.

Gradually his eyesight deepened. There was self -loathing in his chest. Lintik love it! His life was messed up. He felt it had taught him nothing but to think of his own happiness. He forgot the other people he loved and loved him. Maybe he should be thankful that this was not his priority in life. He even thought deeply. And after a while he got up without hesitation and left the hospital.

------

The fellow police officers were shocked by Kendall's sudden appearance at the headquarters. They know what happened to the old general so they wonder what the maiden is doing there.

"Where's the chief?" Kendall asked the colleagues seriously.

"In the meeting room with the Pirus operation team."

Kendall hurried up to the second floor and when he arrived at the taught room, he opened the door without saying a word. He entered with a brave face and full of courage. The meeting colleagues appeared in front of him and all of them at once looked at him as if unable to believe what they saw.

"W-what are you doing here Inspector Whitlock?" Noah immediately asked as his speech was interrupted by his sudden entry.

"What are you doing here Whitlock? How is General?" the boss asked.

He did not answer instead he sat down in the vacant chair and pretended to be with him in the meeting. "I'm going to the operation."

Noah quickly protested. "You can't Inspector Whitlock. This is a very dangerous and a must well-planned operation. You can't just show up and join anytime you want."

“I am involved in this case so I have the right to join the operation,” Kendall boldly replied.

"Yes you are. But you have a different duty Inspector."

Kendall looked doubtfully at the protesting young man. "You know my ability ... but why didn't you include me in this plan in the first place?"

Noah did not answer. He just let out a sigh. He is the mastermind of everything. But with the woman's determination now, she felt she would fail at what she wanted to happen.

Kendall looked at all the colleagues in the meeting. "If what you're worried about is the plan. Don't be nervous because I can afford to study it all night." He grinned. "And even if I meet the bullet I will. Let's just succeed in this case!"

"Kendall WHAT KIND OF GARBAGE ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!" Noah temporarily lost himself. At once the comrades looked at him. "II mean Inspector Whitlock ..." he suddenly regained consciousness.

Kendall gave a meaningful look to Noah who then knew the real motive of the young man's intense resistance. "Once it came out of your mouth Inspector Green that all this has nothing to do with our personal lives. We do it because it is our responsibility and our job."

The young man was speechless.

"Wait, why are you insisting on joining this operation. Shouldn't you be happier because you'll be able to watch the General better?" sabat ng hepe.

Kendall's reaction changed. The old brave was replaced by a blank face but obviously holding back tears. "I have to join the operation, chief and you have to give me too. It's very important to me that we succeed in this case. I have to be promoted ... because this might be the last gift I can give to my grandfather."

No one spoke. Everyone fell silent.

Chief Spencer took a deep breath. It stood quietly to leave the room. But before he finally left the door, he turned to the young inspector.

"Inspector Green, explain the full details of the plan to Inspector Whitlock."
