Chapter 27: Chapter 27
Kendall approached the young policeman's ear and whispered. The latter laughed at what the woman said and replied with a nod.
Moments later, the atmosphere between Noah and Kendall changed. The flow of their conversations became sweeter, and the exchange of smiles and stares became more frequent. From time to time, they laughed at each other’s jokes.
“Oh, Noah. This food is good. Do you want to have a taste?” Kendall said, purposefully making her voice louder so it could reach the neighboring tables.
“Sure.”
Kendall filled her fork with delicacy and lifted it just an inch from the man’s lips. Noah hesitated at first whether to accept the offer, but the young woman signaled her to ride her action. So, he smiled and opened his lips, allowing the woman to feed him.
“Hm… it’s good!” he replied with a thumbs-up.
Witnessing their action, Grayson sliced his steak with rage. As the knife drilled down the meat, his eyes never left the two seated at the nearby table.
"Grayson, stop staring at them. They might become uncomfortable," Cady scolded.
“I’m worried that Hailey might suddenly come off with her uncommon personality. You know, I don’t want your brother to end up being embarrassed for her.”
Meanwhile, Noah gently grabbed Kendall’s hand that was positioned on top of the table’s side, right at the view of Grayson and Cady. His companion was surprised, but the man signaled him to just ride what he was doing.
"Hailey, do you know how beautiful you look tonight?" Again, their voices were loud enough for the other table to hear.
Kendall smiled and extended her hand even more to the young man. She acted like she was thrilled. “Noah, it’s like you’re saying I’m only beautiful tonight. Am I not on the other days?” Her voice was tender as she flashed a soft look at him.
Seeing what happened again, Grayson couldn’t stand it anymore. He dropped the fork and knife on the plate and heaved a deep sigh. "I think this is enough Cady." He stood up. "Hailey and I are going home now. I just remembered that my grandfather requested us to be home early. I’m sorry I couldn’t take you home anymore. I guess you can go with your brother."
He turned around and left his girlfriend looking appalled at his sudden uproar. Approaching the other table, he grabbed Kendall by the arm and forced her hand away from Noah.
"What are you doing, Grayson?" shocked, Kendall said.
"Stand up. We're going home now!" Grayson commanded.
“What? Don’t you see that I'm in the middle of a date?" the woman smiled, obviously annoying the man even more.
Feeling all the blood rushing to his head from anger, Grayson exclaimed, “I said let's go home!” Then, he pulled the woman to her feet.
Kendall stood up and fought off Grayson’s grip on her. As she was dragged out of the door, the woman smiled as she waved at Noah.
"Bye Noah! I'll wait for your call tonight! Call me right away! I don't want to miss you!"
"Stop flirting, Hailey!" Grayson growled at her, visibly irritated at the situation.
Noah returned the wave and sweet smile. "I'll surely call you tonight!"
When Kendall and Grayson were out of sight, Noah let out a loud laugh. Cady, with a serious expression, approached him and sat on Kendall’s vacant seat. She looked at her brother and snapped, "Why are you laughing? What's funny about what happened? Do you even realize what just happened?"
The young man stopped laughing. "Yeah, I know what just happened. Your childish spoiled brat boyfriend couldn't stand the fact that Hailey was actually enjoying the night."
"Yes, with another man! Grayson was jealous!" Cady exclaimed.
Laughing again, Noah answered her sister. "He's not jealous. He's pissed off because he's a possessive guy. He gets irritated when he sees someone close to him getting special attention from others. That’s what a spoiled brat is, Cady."
“Have you seen his eyes? Jealousy is painted all over his face while he was watching you! They were the same expression I saw the last time you were talking with Hailey during the fashion show!”
Noah’s expression suddenly shifted to being serious. “Stop giving deeper meaning to what happened, Cady. I told you not to think that way. Hailey is not the kind of girl you should be worrying about.”
"I'm not afraid of Hailey. I'm afraid of Grayson," Cady muttered, her eyes becoming misty.
"You're thinking too much. Let's go home," the young man signaled the waiter for the bill.
