Chapter 35: Chapter 35

We were watching television when the doorbell rang. Our takeout had arrived, I was famished. We didn’t even bother to eat in the kitchen. My back was still hurting less now that Diego had made sure I took my pill. My upset stomach had already subsided so I was able to keep the food down. We were enjoying alone time as we watched one of my favorite movies Dante’s Peak. “Why do you like this movie?” Diego asked me as he took a hold of my hand and played with my fingers. “I liked the action in it and it also makes you think how you could get out of a situation.” “You do know it’s a movie.” “Yeah! but think about it their depicting exactly what would happen if a disastrous event occurs. Like people going crazy, killing themselves in the process.” “Okay, so what would you do if you would have to get out of something so treacherous?” “Give me a scenario I need more to go on.” “Let’s see zombies.” I began to laugh at his idiocy. “Zombies that are like sci-fi not going to happen in the real world, Diego!” “How do you know Fio chemical warfare could alter changes that could have a similar effect to zombie-like people.” “Do you know this for a fact or are just hypothesizing.” “You see and hear a lot of things when you go out and do fieldwork.” His response made me ask a question. “How long have been doing fieldwork?” “About five years, I didn’t go into it quickly. I left Spain to come and meet my dad. When I realized he was the owner of a television station it made me want to know more about it. I didn’t know what I wanted to do besides luring unsuspecting women into my web.” I elbowed him and he arched his torso to avoid the blow. “Behave!” he said laughing. “Just because I can’t do anything to you.” “Go on, gives me more info on who you are.” “Well, my dad was a big jerk at first hating the fact that I didn’t have his last name and all, but he kind of got used to it. He always said I resembled more of my mother’s side. He even compared me with my Uncle Nico.” “The uncle who taught you about…” “The same one, Fio, anyway dad gave me my first job. I started to get the feel of it and I guess you might say it ran in the blood because I got good at it.” I volunteered to go and cover stories. It was like something inside me just wanted to know more. Don’t get me wrong, Fio they are a lot of shit out there that people shouldn’t even know about. Sometimes it gets to you.” “Like how?” “It’s just too depressing, I’d rather not talk about it.” I looked back at the television and saw the volcano explode and wondered did I want to know. I already had a lot of depressing memories. In that moment of talk, I remembered I had to find out how old he was. “Diego, may I ask you something.” “Fio, you can ask me anything at all.” “How old are you?” I said looking at him. He laughed with such jolly. “Why made you ask that question?” “Well, you know how old I am.” I mean I just turned twenty-five” He still had a smile on his face when he spoke. “I am thirty years old, Fio.” “Oh, just like Melba.” I said. “You’re a friend.” “yes!” “She cares deeply about you.” “We spoke when you were taking a shower.” “She did mention not to hurt you. That you’ve been hurt enough and not to add more to your list.” “She told you that.” “Yes, Fio what did she mean by that?” “Don’t worry about it Diego it’s nothing.” “It has to be something, Fio, or she wouldn’t have said it the way she did.” “How did she say it?” “Well, like she was pissed at me or something. She doesn’t trust me and you know Fio you shouldn’t.” “What?.. Diego what happened with the trust issue.” I looked at him wanting him to give me an answer. He looked at me as well as if he could read into me. “I know you are holding something from me. You rarely talk about yourself and your family, Fio.” Unlike myself, I am like an open book. I don’t have anything to hide.” I looked away, I didn’t want him to see that it was true but somehow I felt that Diego did have something to hide. “It’s just hard for me and besides I don’t know you enough to spill my guts out. Wait..” I knew he was about to say something. “I am just afraid if I talk about it everything will just be like it was yesterday. I already have a very hard time sleeping when it comes to mind. I just don’t want to make it worse. I remained silent after that. Diego continued to play with my fingers. “But.. don’t you think you should speak about it, maybe that would help.” “Can we just drop it I’d rather not talk about it?” Diego sighed. “Okay, Fio for now.” True to word Diego demanded to stay the night with me. He was the first man too and I wasn’t sure of it, especially since we didn’t do anything but talk. We got to learn from each other a bit better. Once or twice he would try to make me talk about the event, but I would quickly direct it back to him. I learned that night that Diego was quickly distracted and good easily be diverted. This was my advantage in keeping him at bay. “What time is it?” “Diego looked at his watch, it’s time for bed.” He said. “I’d like to shower first.” “That sounds like a good idea, mind if I join you.” “You said we wouldn’t be doing anything.” “That’s right Fio but I could enjoy the view.’ “But, Diego I would enjoy the view too, but I would want something more.” He stood up and took my hand and lifted me along with him. “How’s your back feeling, Fio” “Tolerable now.” He led me to the bathroom. He quickly went over and turned on the shower. “Lift your arms.” I did as he said. I allowed Diego to undress me and I looked as he undressed. I could see that Diego wasn't hiding his already engrossed manhood. “So,” I said looking down at it. He didn’t say a word or acknowledge it. He only smiled. “Turn around, Fio” I obliged. “Let me see your cut.” I hated that he had to see. Why couldn’t he just let it go, but I didn’t say it out loud. He unpeeled my gauze and looked at it. He took out a bag with sterilized gauzes and tape he took out this large band-aid and placed it on my cut. He pressed around it making sure that it was tight. “Okay let’s shower.”
