Chapter 343: Chapter 343
Alka had been observing very carefully. It seemed that while the Dream Death God was resting, a reconnaissance wave, approximately two meters in diameter, surrounded the sphere. The Shadow Snake triggered this wave when it approached within two meters. He shared his discovery with Lucilia, urging her to jot it down immediately.
What followed was an even more spectacular scene.
The Dream Death God, wielding a black scythe, swung it upwards from an oblique angle towards the Shadow Snake. Realizing its predatory actions had been discovered, the Shadow Snake abandoned caution, its body immediately beginning to swell. Though it remained only about two meters long, the upper third of its body suddenly expanded, as if it were opening a giant mouth. It lunged directly at the Dream Death God, attempting to bite.
This Shadow Snake seemed significantly stronger than the eye monster. Its sudden lunge was extremely fast; it dodged the scythe’s attack and snapped at its foe. Just as the Dream Death God was about to be bitten, it dissolved into a stream of light and shadow, swiftly moving behind the snake.
Alka, watching intently, felt his eyes sparkle with excitement. He had never seen such a mode of action before, and by observing a little longer, he might be able to simulate it. The pink mist and lenses attached to the Dream Death God were also aiding Alka in his detailed observation.
Now behind the snake, the Dream Death God swung its scythe rapidly, slashing open the Shadow Snake’s back. A fluid of light and shadow, like ink and akin to the snake’s blood, spilled out. Suddenly, the Black Silver Snake’s tail extended like a long whip, striking the Dream Death God. The Dream Death God’s Cloak of Light and Shadow billowed slightly, deflecting the attack. The impact, however, still pushed the Dream Death God several meters sideways.
The snake’s body convulsed, bending and straightening with such speed it resembled a twitching spasm. Like a released slingshot, it propelled itself over ten meters away. It whipped its head around and opened its mouth wide again, this time spitting out black shadow orbs. They shot out, dragging long tails of light and shadow.
The Dream Death God dodged left and right. There were too many shadow orbs; it seemed unable to find an opportunity to strike, nor could it advance. It raised its scythe and, after dodging another shadow orb, flung it outward. The scythe whirled through the air, the trail of light and shadow from its blade forming a spinning circle as it shot forward with incredible speed.
This attack was clearly formidable. Even the Dream Death God’s Cloak of Light and Shadow dimmed slightly, apparently due to the excessive Energy consumed. This must be a special attack method.
The spiraling scythe slashed through the snake’s open mouth. It moved with such speed that the creature had no time to fully dodge. Fortunately, it didn’t strike a vital spot, and the snake, proving itself no easy opponent, managed to twist aside. However, the scythe, having flown past, arced back even faster, catching the snake completely off-guard. It pierced through the snake’s swollen front, tearing a huge gash, before returning to the Dream Death God’s hand.
The pierced snake deflated like a punctured balloon, scattering countless fragments of shadow. As the fluid-like shadows sprayed out and merged into the surroundings, the Shadow Snake’s form dwindled until it vanished completely.
Apparently, this snake wasn’t on the Dream Death God’s menu. It merely watched the snake dissipate and, once it was completely gone, slung the scythe over its shoulder and flew off to the side. The battle didn’t seem to have cost it much effort at all. Finding another corner, it curled back into a black and white misty sphere to rest.
Alka and Lucilia, watching in secret, were thrilled by the spectacle. They had gathered a wealth of information this time.
This perfectly aligned with his intentions. If he could simulate the Dream Death God’s form, he too could use the Cloak of Light and Shadow to block attacks.
He could also throw the scythe out and retrieve it. However, he hadn’t fully observed the fast-paced, light-and-shadow-like movement; there were clearly other key aspects he had missed.
He was unable to simulate that particular movement, but regardless, his understanding of the Dream Death God’s form had been further refined.
Moreover, the Dream Death God’s strength was beyond his expectations, and it seemed to be smarter than he’d thought.
Alka also attempted to simulate the Shadow Snake. However, regardless of which part he tried to replicate, it always manifested as a similarly shaped mass of shadow. Nearby, Lucilia was diligently scribbling in her notebook, intent on documenting both these Dream Realm creatures for inclusion in the Monster Atlas. Alka glanced over at the information Lucilia was recording in her handbook. Get full chapters from novelFɪre.net
Drawing from his simulation experience, he pointed out, "The Dream Death God’s true core isn’t its external appearance. Both its weapon and the Cloak of Light and Shadow originate from a spherical object in the Middle Stage of its body. The other parts merely serve to supply Energy."
As he spoke, a Mirror surfaced on his face, and he demonstrated the Dream Death God’s state for Lucilia.
Lucilia observed for a moment, then nodded. "What a peculiar creature."
To make a human analogy, it’s as if the head, chest, and even legs all function solely to supply Energy to that spherical object at its waist. This sphere then cloaks the entire body in a protective layer of light and shadow and materializes a black shadow scythe for combat.
Alka also described to Lucilia the predation scene he had witnessed earlier: Using its scythe to slice open weaker dream bubbles, the Dream Death God would absorb the pink Dream Energy that leaked from the rupture into its body.
The two waited in place for a good while longer. Once they were certain the Dream Death God was resting and wouldn’t move again, they returned to their respective Dream Realms.
