Chapter 315: Chapter 315

That night, Ji Rui drank a lot, but he wasn’t drunk.

Back home, after showering and lying in bed, his mind kept replaying the words Le Tong and Yang Sheng had said.

It wasn’t until dawn that Ji Rui’s still chaotic mind finally drifted into sleep.

When he woke up, his watch showed exactly seven o’clock.

This thought flashed across Ji Rui’s mind, quickly waking him up completely.

Getting out of bed with lightning speed, he finished his wash and walked into the wardrobe. He habitually reached for a white shirt, but suddenly remembered what Le Tong had said in the supermarket that day.

His fingers brushed over a long row of nearly identical shirts, finally landing on a dark blue one.

Though it’s still a shirt, at least the color has changed a little, right?

Thinking this, Ji Rui put on the shirt and, following the hanger’s guide, found a matching suit in the same color scheme and put it on.

Ji Rui had a dedicated fashion stylist to help him manage his wardrobe. Normally, to save time, many of his clothes were pre-matched by the stylist and hung in the wardrobe.

After changing, Ji Rui went straight out the door.

Sitting in the car, he instructed the driver, "Xiao Li, take the shortcut back and drive fast, it’s fine."

Xiao Li thought Ji Rui had some important matter and drove back to the Ji Family at top speed.

Stepping out of the elevator, the clock in the corridor showed the time was 7:40.

Ji Rui walked quickly into the office, looking for someone he thought would be at the secretary’s desk, but they weren’t there.

"Good morning, President!"

Lin Ling was slightly surprised. Unless there were special circumstances, Ji Rui’s time to arrive at the company was unfailingly 7:45.

Ji Rui nodded at her slightly, a wave of disappointment filled his heart, but his face remained a tight cold mask.

Didn’t she say she’d be back today to hand over work? Or did she forget the time after not coming to work for so long?

Ji Rui sat behind the desk, absentmindedly picking up a spray bottle and misting the cactus in front of him.

Should he call to remind her?

Ji Rui was wiping the large puddle of water on the desk—sprayed all over because he was distracted—when there was a knock on the door.

One hundred percent, it was Lin Ling bringing in the tea she made for him.

"Good morning, Mr. Ji!"

Hearing the unexpected voice, Ji Rui’s head jerked up, meeting the bright eyes of Le Tong.

Ji Rui stared at her fixedly until she pushed a steaming, aromatic cup of coffee in front of him. "Mr. Ji, your coffee!"

Such simple words, yet he had once fantasized about them countless times, only to snap out of it and find it was just Lin Ling in front of him. Now, was this person in front of him truly Le Tong?

Ji Rui’s voice was low, as if afraid that if he spoke any louder, he’d scare her away.

"Mr. Ji, any instructions?"

Le Tong’s crisp, clear voice finally brought a sense of reality to Ji Rui. The rightful source is ɴovelfire.net

When he was sure it was really her in front of him, he recalled their argument the night before.

It was just a thought in his mind, but it slipped out without being filtered by his brain.

The tone, besides a hint of anxiety, also carried an unnoticeable gentleness even to himself.

Le Tong met his scrutinizing gaze, her initially clear and bright eyes showing a slight bewilderment, "Mr. Ji, I don’t understand what you’re saying. If there’s nothing else, I’ll get back to work."

Ji Rui watched her retreating back and furrowed his brows again.

Why is she pretending?

Does it mean that once she returns to the Ji Family, she’ll go back to being the Le Tong who wears a mask around him?

Though, that version of Le Tong isn’t bad.

But having seen her lively and mutable true self, Ji Rui didn’t want to face this face always pulling formal expressions and smiles.

Though this version of her looks impeccable, appearing extremely wise and competent, but that’s enough for facing clients and colleagues.

In private, facing him, he still hoped she could be as candid as she had been a while back, showing her true emotions without needing to hide her happiness, anger, sorrow, and joy. She only needed to be her true self in front of him.

Ji Rui was savoring the long-awaited rich, aromatic coffee while thinking about a bunch of things unrelated to work but related to Le Tong.

After drinking more than half of the coffee, he suddenly remembered that since she hadn’t been working at the Ji Family, there had been no coffee prepared in the break room. Moreover, this coffee wasn’t the Brazilian coffee he usually drank at the Ji Family, but the Mandheling coffee she had once gifted to him.

Ji Rui put down the cup, picked up the phone, contemplating calling out, but quickly hung up again.

He, Ji Rui, a dignified president, couldn’t possibly make a call just to ask the secretary about a coffee problem!

Luckily, the little secretary who had been lingering in his mind all morning didn’t keep him waiting long.

"Mr. Ji, this is the breakfast Baobao asked me to bring you."

His little secretary pushed a container in front of him.

Ji Rui looked up at her, "Did you make this?"

The little secretary’s face showed no expression, neither joy nor disgust, just nodded calmly.

"Mm, Baobao wanted porridge, I made it yesterday. You don’t like it?"

After asking, the little secretary leaned forward to take the container back.

Ji Rui quickly lifted the container, "I like it! My tastes are similar to Baobao’s, what he likes, I like too!"

Seeing Le Tong seemingly not holding a grudge about last night’s events, Ji Rui, though still harboring a thorn in his heart, didn’t want to bring it up and ruin the current atmosphere.

Le Tong raised an eyebrow, gave him a deep look, but said nothing and turned to leave.

Ji Rui called out to stop her, and as she turned around to face him again, he pointed to the remaining bit of coffee in his cup.

"Thank you for the coffee!"

Le Tong shook her head, "No need to thank me, it’s a thank-you gift for yesterday’s meal, plus the coffee, all together!"

Ji Rui’s good mood vanished due to her words.

"Le Tong, do you have to be so clear with me?"

Ji Rui frowned, the faint green in his eyes carrying a hint of anger.

"Mr. Ji, even parents and children keep clear accounts. Moreover, we are nothing to each other, so how can we not make things clear!"

Le Tong’s words carried a subtle sense of resentment. Ji Rui, who was originally a bit angry, suddenly wasn’t upon hearing her words.

If she were indifferent and emotionless, Ji Rui would be more troubled, but she wasn’t as calm as she thought she was.

Nor was she as indifferent as she claimed. This sharp-tongued version of her, at least allowed Ji Rui to sense her real emotions.

"Le Tong, can we go back to how things were before?"
