Chapter 312: Chapter 312
Ji Rui took the mother and child home. After spending most of the day without rest, Ji Baby was already dozing off by the time they reached Le Tong’s house. Ji Rui held him as he took a bath, and by the time they came out, Ji Baby, wrapped in a towel, was already asleep.
Le Tong helped put pajamas on the baby, and Ji Rui tucked him into bed.
"Baobao’s stamina still isn’t great..."
Le Tong looked down at her son, fast asleep, her face full of compassion as she gently touched his face.
Ji Rui watched her silently, finally raising his hand to lightly embrace her shoulder, giving a comforting pat before letting go.
"Don’t worry, Baobao will recover completely!"
Le Tong nodded, watched Baobao for a while longer, then turned around and noticed Ji Rui’s shirt and pants were mostly wet, causing her to furrow her brows.
"Mr. Ji, your clothes..."
Ji Rui looked down at his own wet clothes and said nonchalantly, "It’s fine, they’ll dry soon."
"You should go home and take a bath quickly, staying wet , it’s easy to catch a cold."
Le Tong said as she turned to fetch a towel from the cabinet and handed it to him, "Wipe it off first."
Ji Rui took the towel, tilted his head, and wiped his wet hair as he walked to the door. He opened it and told the bodyguard standing outside, "Get me a set of clothes, please."
In about ten minutes, Ji Rui had a set of dry clothes and a large bag of new toiletries in hand.
Le Tong’s mouth twitched—was it that Ji Rui wasn’t clear in his request, or did the bodyguard overthink it? He came back not just with clothes but with a towel, toothbrush, razor, shaving water, body wash, and shampoo.
Ji Rui took everything out piece by piece, "Since it’s all bought, let’s keep it here just in case, okay?"
He asked carefully, but his actions seemed invasive, as if saying, regardless of your answer, this is done now.
Just like earlier, when he set up the fingerprint password, whether she agreed or not, it was set, and whether she used it or not was none &of his& business.
"Can I say no?" Le Tong rolled her eyes in exasperation.
Ji Rui replied, putting everything back into the bag item by item, then picked up the dry clothes and entered the bathroom. Soon, he came out wearing the fresh clothes.
"Let’s go over there and take a look."
It seemed Ji Rui hadn’t forgotten his promise to help tidy up the house.
But now Le Tong was less willing for him to help, who knows if he’d use the opportunity to forcefully move things in, turning the house into his domain rather than hers.
"Mr. Ji, really, I prefer organizing my own things slowly."
Though Ji Rui intended to invade her life gradually, she had no intention of compromising.
She understood well that Ji Rui’s sudden change in attitude was largely because she had saved Baobao, and thus, he wanted to make amends.
But she wanted to tell him that everything she did for Baobao was not because he was Ji Rui’s son but because he was her son.
As a mother, even if she risked her life for Baobao, it was of her own accord, requiring no reward or gratitude from Ji Rui. This text is hosted at novel⟡fire.net
After Ji Rui hit a wall once again, he felt awkward, wanting to persuade her further, but seeing Le Tong’s expression, there was no room for negotiation left.
While Ji Rui stood in the middle of the room pondering how to convince Le Tong, the phone on the coffee table rang.
Afraid it would wake Baobao, Le Tong rushed over, grabbed the phone, and without checking who was calling, answered it directly.
At the mention of that name, Ji Rui’s body tensed up, his ears perked immediately.
Although eavesdropping was impolite, Ji Rui couldn’t control himself, knowing that hearing that name made his heart feel as heavy as lead, weighed down and full.
"No, I have to stay at home with Baobao."
Hearing Le Tong’s evidently rejecting words, Ji Rui relaxed a little.
"Saturday’s no good either. I have to return to work at the Ji Family on Monday, and these days I’m busy with both taking care of Baobao and transitioning my work. Let’s schedule the reunion for later."
Le Tong’s words reassured Ji Rui even more.
"Alright, I’ll call you about the specifics. Yep, I owe you a meal, I remember, and I’ll treat you well then."
"Okay, that’s it, bye!"
Ji Rui couldn’t glean anything specific from the conversation, but once Le Tong hung up, he couldn’t help but ask.
"Do you still keep in contact with Luo Yifan?"
Le Tong frowned slightly, looking up at him.
"He’s a good friend, so of course we keep in touch regularly!"
After clarifying things with Luo Yifan, he no longer talked a lot of nonsense, and their relationship returned to occasionally having meals and chats like before.
The household items bought before Baobao was discharged were chosen and brought back with Luo Yifan’s help, which was why Le Tong said she owed him a meal.
However, Ji Rui was unaware of these details, so he assumed that owing Luo Yifan a meal was similar to the many pretexts he used to get her indebted to him, essentially creating opportunities to be with Le Tong, which made Ji Rui increasingly uneasy.
Ji Rui frowned too, knowing Luo Yifan’s intentions towards Le Tong didn’t need an explanation—it had been publicly declared on the most popular newspapers. He claimed they were merely good friends, but who would believe that?
"Yes, truly good friends!"
Le Tong’s tone had started to sour, though she was suppressing her irritation. She felt no need to explain her relationships to Ji Rui but also didn’t want to argue, so she repeatedly emphasized that she and Luo Yifan were just friends.
"Have you forgotten the crazy things he did before?"
Ji Rui assumed Le Tong was overly naive, so his tone became more questioning.
"Mr. Ji, whether I’ve forgotten or not, that’s my business, what’s it got to do with you?"
Le Tong was already on the verge of snapping from Ji Rui’s unnecessary interference, raising her brows and glaring at him in return.
Ji Rui was taken aback by her words, his expression shifted, "You and Luo Yifan being so vague, aren’t you afraid Baobao might be upset? If Baobao finds out, how will you explain your relationship with him, and how will you explain the relationship between us?"
Le Tong was infuriated; she suddenly realized that, in Ji Rui’s mind, she had been labeled as Baobao’s mom, and consequently, labeled as Ji Rui’s!
