Chapter 226: Chapter 226

Le Tong, on the plane, did not sleep as she usually would. Instead, she finished the final part of the analysis report for Yangtze Company. After disembarking, she used the airport’s WIFI to send the report to Lin Ling’s email.

She is someone who sees things through to the end and doesn’t like leaving a mess for others to clean up.

After leaving the airport, Le Tong took several transfers and only arrived at the remote small town where Zhang Yi lived by the next day’s noon.

She had already told Zhang Yi about her approximate arrival time, so when she got off the vehicle, she saw Zhang Yi waving at her from a brand-new electric scooter outside the railing.

"Brother, whose electric scooter did you borrow?"

Le Tong jogged over, and Zhang Yi took her luggage and placed it on the front footboard, handing her a helmet.

"Bought it. Figured you’d be coming in and out a lot, and a bicycle might not be convenient."

Le Tong felt a warmth in her heart, took the helmet, and hopped on.

"These days, did Wenwen keep saying she wanted to see me?"

Zhang Yi nodded with a smile, "Every day she cries and calls for her sister. Your sister-in-law says maybe you are actually that little girl’s mother, not her."

Le Tong laughed heartily for a moment and suddenly thought of something, "Brother, how about having Wenwen call me ’Aunt’ instead? Since I call you brother, by logic Wenwen should be my niece, calling me sister messes up the family hierarchy."

Zhang Yi had no objections to this, "Sure, I’m not picky about titles. But you’re right, calling you sister does mess up the hierarchy."

They chatted merrily as they rode in the cold wind. Le Tong found that whenever she returned to this place, her mind would become especially peaceful.

Although now she had a little longing in her heart, the thought that she would be seeing them soon turned that longing into eager anticipation, like having hope makes a person naturally feel full of strength.

Having an electric scooter indeed made things much more convenient. A route that would have taken half an hour on foot was now just a few minutes by scooter. The vehicle chugged into the yard, and the little girl, upon hearing the sound, stumbled out of the house.

As soon as she saw Le Tong, she grinned and rushed toward her.

"Sister... Sister..."

Le Tong picked her up and gave her a peck, "Wenwen, call me Aunt."

Wenwen blinked and pouted unhappily, pulling at Le Tong’s cheeks and grumbling, "I want Sister, Wenwen wants Sister!"

Le Tong caught her hands and kissed them, "Wenwen dear, your sister is still here, but Wenwen should call sister Aunt, okay?"

Wenwen pursed her lips and stayed silent.

Seems like she’s a stubborn one again.

"Tongtong, Wenwen is so fond of you; her personality is growing to be more like yours. No wonder your sister-in-law says you must be her mother."

Zhang Yi, pushing the scooter into the shed, caught sight of his daughter’s little sulk and laughed as he spoke.

Le Tong laughed as well, "Brother, is that a compliment or an insult? Why does it sound like an insult to me?"

Zhang Yi bashfully grinned, "Tongtong, I was complimenting you! A girl like you, strong and independent with a mind of her own, much more capable than us big men. If Wenwen could be half as competent as you in the future, I’d be at ease."

Le Tong pinched Wenwen’s cheek and turned to Zhang Yi, "Brother, Wenwen is still a blank slate, with endless possibilities."

Zhang Yi also reached out to pinch Wenwen’s cheek, "Wenwen, call her Aunt. In the future, learn more from your Aunt, okay?"

Wenwen glanced at Le Tong a few more times, then, perhaps having heard her father’s words, opened her mouth and called out, "Aunt..."

Le Tong was amused by her calling her Aunt and carried her into the inner room, took the luggage Zhang Yi brought in, opened it, and handed over some toys to Wenwen.

"Wenwen, these were bought by Brother for you, do you like them?"

There were Barbie dolls among these toys, as well as plush toys, mostly toys suitable for little girls.

Le Tong initially thought that Ji Baby, spoiled by the Ji Family, would surely struggle to change his domineering and capricious nature quickly. So when she suggested he buy some gifts for Wenwen as a New Year present, she was prepared for him to cry and say he was not liked, or something similar.

But to her surprise, upon hearing about buying toys for Wenwen, Ji Baby happily agreed without hesitation, even taking the initiative to hold Le Tong’s hand as they sorted through the pile of toys. All of these toys that Wenwen adored were handpicked by Ji Baby.

It seems that Ji Baby had a much kinder nature than she imagined.

The rumored demon-like Baby was probably just the mask he wore to protect himself when faced with malice at a young age.

After all, in the Ji Family’s vast household, being overly kind was not a good thing.

"Wenwen, do you like them?"

Le Tong approached and patted the little girl’s bottom.

At this moment, the little girl was struggling to put a bear, at least twice her size, onto a chair.

"Like... Thank you... Brother!"

Wenwen’s speech has improved lately, and her vocabulary is gradually expanding.

Le Tong suddenly remembered something important, "Wenwen, Aunt has to go out for a bit."

Even though Wenwen had a pile of toys to play with, she missed Le Tong a lot after her absence. When she heard that Le Tong was going out, she thought she would leave without a word like the last few days.

With a wail, she threw the big bear on the ground and turned to leap into Le Tong’s arms.

"Wenwen wants Sister... don’t go... you can’t go..."

Le Tong wiped the tears quickly streaming down, "Tsk, little crybaby, Aunt is not leaving. Aunt is going to apply for broadband service. Strive to have it installed by tomorrow, so tomorrow night Wenwen can see Brother on the computer, okay?"

Upon hearing about seeing Brother, Wenwen stopped crying, sucked her thumb for a moment, and then loosened her grip on Le Tong’s clothes.

"Want to see Brother, Wenwen, see Brother."

Le Tong laughed and stroked her head, "Okay, Wenwen be a good girl and play at home, and you can see Brother tomorrow!"

Turning around, she went inside to get her ID and other necessary documents, pushed Zhang Yi’s newly purchased electric scooter out of the shed, and chugged her way toward the town’s telecom office.

The next evening, when Ji Baby was asked by Le Tong to go online using the computer, a somewhat puzzled Ji Baby logged into the QQ account he rarely used, soon receiving a friend request from "LeheHehe."

Ji Baby accepted, and then a video request promptly followed from the other side.

Ji Baby was not accustomed to video chatting on QQ because he didn’t have many friends.

After opening it, Le Tong’s smiling avatar winked at him on the screen, "Sister!" Ji Baby exclaimed in surprise! Read full story at n0velfire.net
