Chapter 59: Chapter 59
A man stood to greet Jonea in room 504. He was stunned to see the appearance of a strange girl he didn't expect.
"Who are you?" asked the man.
Jonea was nervous and stuttering.
Before Jonea could answer, a woman on her treatment bed coughed occasionally and then spoke. "Has she come? Where is my future daughter-in-law?" Quickly bring her here. Mom wants to meet her."
They were separated by a curtain, so they couldn't see each other.
The man was nervous when asked so by the mother. "A-uh, Mom. There seems to be a misunderstanding. It wasn't my future wife who came, but the nurse."
"Y-yes," Jonea said like a fool.
The man glared at Jonea and demanded an explanation from the girl.
Jonea was nervous and repeatedly bowed in apology. "I think I entered the wrong room. I want to visit my relatives. She should be in room 505. I'm sorry."
Jonea repeatedly bowed and left the inpatient room. She breathed a sigh of relief when she closed the door and stood in the hall.
Jonea took another step towards the room she should have entered. The girl was still tightly gripping the cardboard bag in her hands. She knocked three times on the door of ward 505 before turning the knob.
"This is so exciting!" shouted Jay in front of the monitor screen in his office. He also monitored Jonea's movements through the hospital's surveillance cameras.
What Jay witnessed could also be seen by Edison in his cage. Ed clenched his fists tightly and wanted to run over there to stop Jonea from entering room 505.
"It was all just a trap!" Edison hissed.
Jay's personal assistant approached Edison. "You only have five minutes left, Alpha. Make a decision quickly before we call the police to arrest the girl."
After entering room 505, Jonea saw only a woman sitting in a wheelchair staring out the window. The woman was wearing a white nightgown, not the hospital gown she should have worn. Her long hair was pulled into a high bun, revealing her long neck and pale skin.
"Why are you taking so long?" she asked without turning around. "I've been waiting for the package. Give it to me right now!"
"Sorry, Ma'am. There's a misunderstanding. Just before I entered here, I heard someone else in the room. It will not be safe for our transactions, "Jonea said.
"Yeah, my son just left. You don't need to worry. He would know nothing and would suspect nothing. He really loves me."
Then, the woman sitting in the wheelchair turned to face Jonea. They stared at each other, and Jonea almost squealed in surprise.
"Y-you…?" Jonea's tongue went numb for a moment. 'Is she the VIP customer?' she thought.
"Why?" asked the woman in an offended tone. "As if you just saw a ghost. Am I like a ghost in your eyes?"
Jonea just stared and could not answer. Because technically, the woman had indeed been reported dead by the mass media. It's shocking now that Jonea meets her in person. She thought they were just look-alike people.
"Are you new?" she asked. "I told Jay not to change couriers. I don't like meeting strangers."
Jonea just kept quiet and didn't give any answer. As it should be according to the instructions, she was not allowed to speak to the customer. Jonea's job is to deliver the goods and leave after receiving payment.
Jonea immediately bowed as an expression of apology. She handed the cardboard bag in her hand to the woman.
Jonea was still not done with the shock. Because the woman before her was a former senior artist who was so famous in her era. Although retired and already sixty years old, that woman still looks so beautiful. It's just that now it seems thinner and also pale. Jonea's parents were very fond of the actress before her.
On the tablet screen, Edison could see footage of the hospital's surveillance camera showing three police officers leaving the patrol car. They were all armed and rushed towards the hospital lobby.
Ed knew what was going on there. On the other hand, Jonea is still in the treatment room 505.
"Your time is running out, Alpha. There is no less than a minute left for you to decide."
Ed pounded his fists against the bars. He really didn't want to sign the contract agreement. But he also wanted to avoid getting Jonea in trouble.
'I've done enough wrongs to Miller in the past. I don't want to do the same to Jonea this time.'
But Ed suddenly lowered his head, and it was as if he wanted to close his eyes to what was happening and about to happen to Jonea at this time. Ed was just glued to the tablet screen as three police officers walked closer to room 505.
In his room, Jay smiled sinisterly. "We'll see, Edison Fuller. Are you going to remain a loser until the end?"
The VIP customer who ordered items from Jay and sat in her wheelchair smiled broadly at Jonea. She removed the blanket covering her knees and toes and exited her wheelchair.
The former artist really looks fine. It was as if she was just hiding in the hospital, not to get treated like a sick patient.
'She's still wonderful and attractive,' thought Jonea. 'Apart from her body becoming thinner and paler and looking older.'
The former artist snatched the bag from Jonea's hand. As if she could not wait to open its contents. When the woman was about to take out a bowl of porridge, the door to the inpatient room suddenly opened with a bang.
The two women were shocked when they found three police officers with guns drawn.
"Raise your hands and put that thing over there!" one of the police officers exclaimed at the former artist.
Jonea panicked. She thought her life would end that very night in prison. She failed in her mission and died trying to help Edison.
"What is this?" shouted the former artist. "Why did you barge into my treatment room? How could the hospital staff allow this to happen?"
"Oh, Ma'am, stop your nonsense. We have just received information that an illegal transaction is occurring in the room. We just need to check it out. If proven, you two must come with us to the police station tonight."
Jonea's face turned pale. She was scared and thought she wanted to snatch the bag from the hands of the former artist to take her away.
Edison turned and turned his back to the tablet screen. He left the contract paper unsigned. Ed sat hunched over on the floor, hugging his knees. He endured deep anger and sorrow. His expression really couldn't be described in words.
Jay was in his office, hitting the table with all his might because he had failed with his plan to force Edison to sign the contract. Out of frustration, Jay pushed away all the objects on the table's surface and shouted loudly.
At the hospital, Jonea and the police fought over the cardboard bag. One of the police officers carrying a gun was getting impatient and scolded Jonea.
"Release your hand if you don't want us to shoot on the spot!"
"What's this all about?" asked the former artist. "Why are you guys so interested in this bag?"
"You'd better shut up and use your right to speak at the right time, Ma'am. We get reports that there are illegal transactions here. We just need to check and make sure." The police officer glared at the former artist and grabbed the cardboard bag.
The police officer began to examine the contents of the cardboard bag. He saw a basket filled with warm porridge, a bottle of herbal drink, and a basket of apples.
"That all of them, along with the evidence, to the police station!" one police officer ordered his two colleagues.
Jonea rebelled. 'I still have a chance before they reveal everything inside! I'll take it away when I'm outside!' thought Jonea.
"Wait!" shouted the former. She gritted her teeth in annoyance. "You can't get me out of here! If he finds out, you will regret it."
A police officer began to put handcuffs on the hands of the former artist.
"Maybe correct your confidence, Ma'am. Because he was the one who contacted us and gave us information about illegal transactions here."
"What? Who?" she screamed.
Nothing answered Jonea's curiosity. Police officers dragged her out of the inpatient room with the former artist.
