Chapter 68: Chapter 68
Chapter 67
The heavy downpour complimented the funeral of Mrs. Angelina Paulo as she was laid to rest at the St Sebastian Catholic cemetery.
"Grandma is my mother. I love her so much" I could see Mr. Benson weeping as he spoke.
Everywhere went silent as Becky took to the podium to say her speech.
Tears already gathered around my eyes, Becky must be going through a lot right now. If it was to be me, I wouldn't even attend this funeral. I'd rather bury my head with my pillow and cry all day not minding anyone, anything, and everything. Just me and my pillow.
"Grandma, she has been mother ever. From day one, she taught me how to walk, how to talk even up to helping me pass through my everyday life. I don't have to give long speeches about mama because if I should start we'd probably spend a whole eighteen years here" she paused for a second as people who were gathered was all giggling despite the tears in everyone's eyes.
"Grandma, I love you. I will continue to love you forever and ever till we meet to part no more. Rest in peace mama. Your baby loves you"
I couldn't control my tears anymore. I have been playing hard man since the church funeral mass even down to the letting down of the casket but Becky's speech did break the ice.
I watched as Becky threw the first shovel load of sand down the dug-up grave. Mom threw the second and dad threw the third.
I Clenched the shovel tight dropping a full load on the casket.
I knew deep down that I was gonna miss this old woman. She was almost like a mother to me.
The laborers at the cemetery did a good job in filling the rest of the sand.
I drove with Becky in my Ferrari while my dad used his pickup truck. Jefferson came after us with his Mercedes lifting Nancy and pearl.
"Becky, am so sorry about your loss" Nancy hugged Becky before walking into her house in the Ally way.
I drove back to our family house with Jefferson driving right behind me till we came to a halt.
The four of us occupied the balcony watching the whole estate from our comfort zone with those bed-like foldable chairs.
We lit up candles in respect of the late woman. It was kinda a tradition to do that.
"Thank you guy for being there" Becky finally found her voice after the long silence throughout the trip.
"What are friends for?" Pearl replied tapping her back.
"Let's go watch a movie" Becky insisted.
"No, football match" I protested.
We had it in a vote. Yeah, I did lose the bargain as Jefferson went ahead with the movie idea.
To be very honest, I enjoyed the movie although I never cared about the name the movie was nice as long as I got Becky clung to me tightly as though I was gonna runoff.
"Why you two far away?" I frowned my face as I watch both Pearl and Jefferson avoiding eye contact creating a long distance between themselves.
"I should get going" Pearl replied giving me the what the fuck look.
"Sit down it's just six pm plus Jefferson would drive you home" I replied rolling my eyes at her
Becky laid her head on my chest as we watched the second movie. I had purposely decreased the air-conditioning system to make it extra cold.
I wrapped Becky with a blanket hoping Jefferson would give Pearl his jacket but this two were being stupid.
"Want a Jacket?" Jefferson offered to pull off his thick jacket.
"No am fine thanks" she replied stretching her shirt to a more comfortable style.
"Pearl the fuck! Take his jacket don't be stupid" Becky frowned.
Pearl muttered an almost silent thank you to Jefferson as her body was far lost in his huge jacket. Her face blushed as Jefferson smiled.
The chemistry between this two was super strong and it got to be mixed as soon as possible. I watched as Pearl bowed her head throughout the movie time avoiding eye contact with everybody.
"Am not some kinda Cupid but I think Pearl you like Jefferson" Becky said staring at the TV.
"Wait what? No..no not I mean you can't say I like him just because I took his jacket" Pearl's fake laugh was so visible as she spoke.
"Then maybe you should stop clinging to him" Becky rolled her eyes punching the TV remote.
Pearl noticed how close she has drawn to Jefferson and she quickly pulled away.
I couldn't control my laughter. Jefferson's fuck you face was still on. He knew what I was playing at. Two stubborn sets of humans I have ever seen. Maybe I could make an exception for Becky. She is a psycho!
"You know life is short Pearl, allow somebody to love you before it's too late" Becky didn't even look in their direction as she spoke her head was well rested on my chest.
"Good night guys. Pearl picked her pillow walking straight to my room
"I think imma sleep too" Becky also left the living room as myself and Jefferson took to gaming.
Barcelona vs Real Madrid soccer game was the order of the night.
"Bro, what's stopping you from asking her out?" I finally broke the ice on the matter earlier until I was sure the girls were fast asleep.
"Bro, she would probably say no, I ain't gonna risk!" Jefferson replied clicking his control pad fast knocking past my defense but k.navas had a great save from the shot of Messi.
"You don't know that bro, you gotta try. Just try c'mon" I paused the game wanting his full attention.
"Ok fine. One try! If it works then you'd stop disturbing me and if it doesn't you also stop disturbing me. Deal?" Jefferson looks stupid saying all those stupid shits but I was always used to it.
The game continued till eleven o'clock when we got sleepy.
"Mama!!!!!!!"
