Chapter 915: Chapter 915
"Friend, I'm sorry for getting you involved in this mess." As they walked out of the recruitment hall, Wang Zhian looked at Ding Fan with an apologetic expression and said.
It was obvious that Ding Fan had gotten thrown out of the recruitment hall because he stood up for Wang Zhian earlier, defending him against injustice.
The recruitment at Huaxia Group was something fiercely contested by tens of thousands. It was like crossing a single-log bridge amidst a sea of soldiers and horses. Yet this stranger in front of him had just sacrificed such an opportunity for his sake. Naturally, Wang Zhian felt deeply guilty.
"I'm sorry..." Xie Lingling, standing nearby, also apologized to Ding Fan along with Wang Zhian.
But Ding Fan didn't acknowledge their apologies. Instead, he looked at Wang Zhian and asked, "Your field of study is urban planning?"
Wang Zhian nodded. "Yes, my major is exactly that. But after graduating, it's been extremely hard to find a job in this field. If I wanted to work in the planning bureau, not only would I need to spend a significant amount of money, I'd also have to rely on connections..."
Ding Fan nodded again.
Urban planning was indeed a tough field to break into, being a profession for conceptualizing a city's macro-scale development. Early entry points were notoriously difficult to find.
"If it's so unpromising, why did you choose to study it in the first place?" Ding Fan said lightly.
Wang Zhian let out a bitter laugh. "Don't laugh at me, friend, but I'm from a rural area. Back then, I just wanted to make my hometown as beautiful as a city..."
At this moment, Xie Lingling, standing nearby, held onto Wang Zhian's hand and said, "He's very ambitious. Every year in university, he won the highest scholarship. His urban design papers were even published abroad... All he lacks now is an opportunity…"
As Xie Lingling spoke, she and Wang Zhian exchanged a gentle smile.
Ding Fan could see the mutual admiration and affection between the two of them.
Wang Zhian then looked up at the towering Huaxia Group building. "I once saw the CEO of Huaxia Group, Ding Fan, on TV. From him, I saw a spirit of positivity and unyielding courage, which inspired me to apply to Huaxia Group."
Xie Lingling chimed in from the side, "If the employees below are this unscrupulous, the CEO can't be much better. He's probably all show and no substance."
"If I gave you a city right now, could you plan and develop it?" Ding Fan ignored Xie Lingling's comment and asked directly.
The city of Yongfan currently lacked a top-tier planner for its overall design. At this moment, Ding Fan's admiration for talent surfaced.
Wang Zhian adjusted his glasses, then answered, "I aspire to bring peace to the nation, and I have full confidence I can plan and develop a city."
Seeing Wang Zhian's confident demeanor, Xie Lingling looked at him with a gaze filled with admiration. "I believe you can do it too."
Ding Fan pondered for a moment before saying, "I can give you the opportunity to plan and develop a city."
After Ding Fan said this, both Wang Zhian and Xie Lingling turned to look at him.
Leaving aside Ding Fan's plain attire, hadn't he himself just been kicked out of the recruitment hall?
"Friend, it's getting late, and we need to head to the job market to try our luck. Sorry again for today. If there's anything you need help with in the future, feel free to contact us."
As Wang Zhian spoke, he pulled out a piece of paper, jotting down his phone number before handing it to Ding Fan.
Ding Fan naturally understood that they probably thought he was spouting nonsense but were too polite to say so. To them, Ding Fan seemed like someone who didn't even have a job, yet here he was talking about cities and opportunities.
"What's your name, friend?" Wang Zhian asked after handing the note to Ding Fan.
"Call me Zhou Fan," Ding Fan replied, refraining from revealing his true name.
"Zhou Fan, may we meet again someday," Wang Zhian said before turning and leaving with Xie Lingling.
Ding Fan looked at the note with Wang Zhian's number, then put it away. Afterward, he strode purposefully back into the recruitment hall.
Inside the interview room.
The room wasn't very large, around thirty or forty square meters. Behind a desk sat several people in professional attire.
Opposite them, a chair was placed for the interviewees.
Knock, knock, knock. After the previous interviewee left, the sound of knocking came from the door.
The man sitting in the middle took a sip of tea before calling out, "Come in."
With a creak, the door opened, and Sun Wei entered with an ingratiating smile.
"Hello, esteemed interviewers." Sun Wei bowed to the group before sitting down properly in the interviewee's chair.
"Sun Wei, why are you here for the interview? Didn't I already tell you? Even though I'm your uncle, I won't let you pass," the middle-aged man said sternly as he glared at Sun Wei.
"Uncle, I didn't use any connections. I'm here purely on my own merit. I just want to prove myself..."
"Get out right now!" The middle-aged man stood up, pointing at Sun Wei and barking angrily.
"Section Chief Wang, what are you doing?" a thirty-something man sitting beside the middle-aged man interjected, stepping in to stop him. Nᴇw ɴovel chaptᴇrs are published on 𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹✦𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖✦𝓷𝓮𝓽
The younger man was well aware of Section Chief Wang's reputation and intentions.
This little act wasn't about enforcing fairness; it was clearly a ploy to signal to everyone that Sun Wei was his nephew.
"Section Chief Wang, we all know you're impartial, but you can't deny your nephew the right to interview. Just like he said, if he has the skills, he'll make it; if not, he won't. It doesn't affect you either way," the younger man said with a smile.
With someone building a bridge for him, Section Chief Wang nodded and sat back down. "Fine, then you handle the rest. I'll distance myself to avoid any accusations of bias."
The younger man nodded before casually starting some small talk, making the atmosphere feel like a friendly chat. Another interviewer, a woman in her thirties, also chipped in occasionally.
In Huaxia Country, connections and relationships were key. Since this person was Section Chief Wang's nephew, it was only natural to give him face.
After asking a couple of perfunctory questions, the young man concluded, "I think we can finalize the results. He's good. Congratulations, you've been hired."
Sun Wei stood up hastily upon hearing this. "Thank you, thank you, dear interviewers."
Section Chief Wang smiled, his gaze showing approval as he looked at the young man. "Is this guy really capable?"
The young man smiled back. "Chief, this young man is one of the most talented candidates I've ever seen. Having him join our company is an honor."
The woman chimed in as well. "Exactly, he's sharp and competent. No problem at all."
"Fine, I'll leave the rest to you both," Section Chief Wang said with a smile.
Sun Wei, ever obsequious, stood up again. "Ladies and gentlemen, tonight I've reserved a table at Dongting Lake Fish House. Your presence would be an honor."
Section Chief Wang glanced at the young man and the woman beside him and grinned.
The two of them, seasoned in social dynamics, immediately understood his meaning. The young man stood up without hesitation. "In that case, it'd be rude not to accept."
At that moment, the door suddenly swung open without warning.
Everyone inside froze in surprise; it was unexpected for someone to barge in during an interview.
After all, this was the interview room. Who would dare to walk in recklessly?
"It's you?" Sun Wei frowned deeply upon seeing the intruder. The person who entered was none other than Ding Fan, the one who had stood up for others earlier.
With a serious expression, Ding Fan looked at the three interviewers seated at the table. "This is how your company conducts talent selection? You hire someone after just a few sentences of small talk?"
Section Chief Wang's face darkened. "Who are you? How did you get in here? Get out now, or I'll call security."
Ignoring the threat, Ding Fan replied coldly, "Are you still unwilling to admit your mistake?"
"You arrogant fool! This is Huaxia Group! What gives you the right to make a scene here?" Sun Wei snapped, eager to show off in front of the interviewers. Besides, he was itching to teach Ding Fan a lesson.
In two strides, Sun Wei reached Ding Fan, extending a hand to grab him by the collar.
But Ding Fan didn't even take Sun Wei seriously. Before Sun Wei could make his move, Ding Fan extended his hand, clamped it around Sun Wei's neck, and, with a forceful shove, threw him across the room.
Ding Fan's strength was nothing short of formidable. Sun Wei crashed to the ground, sprawling in a humiliating heap, unable to move.
"Ah… It hurts so much..."
"Outrageous!" Section Chief Wang bellowed in anger. He reached for the phone. "Security? Get here immediately. There's someone causing trouble in the interview room."
The younger man beside him stepped in front protectively, shielding Section Chief Wang. "This is Huaxia Group. This isn't a place where you can behave recklessly."
The woman also stood up, saying, "You'd better not think about running. Just so you know, we have cameras here. Even if you run, we'll still catch you."
Ding Fan had no intention of running. Instead, he calmly pulled a chair over and sat down. Then, he took out his phone.
"Qin Manshu? I'm in the interview room now. I'm wearing black," Ding Fan said matter-of-factly.
Hearing Ding Fan's words, Section Chief Wang and the two others froze, momentarily stunned.
Qin Manshu was the current CEO of Huaxia Group.
If not the present, then even in Huaxia Group's predecessor organization, Qin Manshu had been their leader. They were all too familiar with her.
Could it be that this plain-looking man in front of them had actually called someone like Qin Manshu?
After finishing the call, Ding Fan hung up and sat quietly, eyes closed, as if nothing had happened.
"You little punk, acting all high and mighty. Do you seriously think you know our CEO? Take a good look at yourself in the mirror," the young man beside Section Chief Wang sneered.
At that moment, four security guards burst into the room.
"It's him. Throw him out of here," Section Chief Wang ordered.
Still sprawled on the floor, Sun Wei added, "Teach this scumbag a lesson. Beat him to death..."
Before the guards could make a move, Ding Fan swung his fist powerfully at the wall. The impact created a sizable dent in the wall...
