Chapter 59: Chapter 59

Pristine came with all of her things packed like a kid; it's all neat. Kendric's right about her; she's a very unique girl and pretty much adorable. She came into Kendric's condo, and she even took off her shoes and carried them with her. I was confused for a second about the fact that this girl used to date Kendric.

He's very unique in choosing his girlfriends.

I have a pet name for her, and it's Flawless, just like how it's related to her name, and I think it actually suits her. She's flawless enough, though.

"Would you like to have some coffee, or can I get anything you want?" I asked softly.

"Just water," she politely replied.

I was left charmed by her cute little moves, maybe because she's being careful with her head now that she's living in a different house and she needs to be extra careful about her moves.

"You are Angela, right?" She suddenly asked.

I nodded in response while helping her with her luggage.

"I heard a lot about you and even read an article saying you're one of those empowered women," she said gladly.

"I never even realize that I'm in that kind of magazine," I said.

"You should be proud of yourself," she weakly said, so I helped him walk towards the couch to sit.

I can't believe I'm helping his ex-lover settle in his place. Gosh, this is the most embarrassing moment I've had in my whole life, but I guess I'm still glad that I can help him with all of her things that she needs for her medication. When she sat down near me, I could smell the fresh scent of her hair. I was awkwardly looking at her when she suddenly laughed at me.

"You're trying to get close to me just like he told you, aren't you?" She asked gently. Her voice was too soft; I could just die of jealousy over her cute voice.

I nodded awkwardly, and we smiled at each other.

"So how did you know Kendric?" She asked again.

"I just met him at the university I used to attend before; he was just casually sitting in our bleachers at the time, and he just teased me for a while," I explained, trying to tell her about what happened.

She even pushed me to say more about us, so I told her about our story, from how we met down to how we got separated. She was a bit shocked when I told him everything. She got sad, but she then became happy when I told her that we reunited here in New York, and now here we are.

"It's good to see that he's having fun lately," she said with lots of concern in her voice.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked right away.

She sighed before she answered.

"Way back when we broke up and we both found out what our family's reason was to tear us apart, he became depressed. I thought at that moment that he was just playing around when he told me about it, but he wasn't. He rushed into my house one time, saying he had become weak and didn't know why. We talked about it, and I even told him to seek professional advice, but he just invalidated himself. He just told me that he's just desperate to have me again, but I know that time that it's not what he wanted."

As I listened to her, I felt heartbroken about what he'd been through. At the same time, I felt envious of the old him. He seemed so faithful and caring, but I think it's just fine if we hadn't met each other earlier. I'm a reckless one, and we just might not end up together.

"But right now, I can say he's very content with you," she said as she took the gift I just got for her.

"How can you say that?" I curiously asked.

She smiled at me.

"With me, he only wanted to have someone he could hold on to. But with you, he's someone who wants to become a part of you, someone even more deeply connected with you," she explained.

I could see the sincerity in her eyes as she said that. I never experienced this kind of treatment from a lover's past partner, but being with her makes me really comfortable.

As time went by, we talked about her situation, and I felt really bad as I heard from her that the doctors had already given her a short time to live. It must have been terrible to hear that, especially when you don't have someone to talk to about it.

"We'll get you treated," I assured her, just to prolong her life.

She shook her head and smiled sadly.

"I've lived enough in this world, and I also want to rest too," she said, holding my hand.

I looked at her, and I could feel her grip was weak already, so I told her to get some rest for a moment while I called for Kendric to come here.

I left her resting in the guest room while trying to call Kendric. When he answered, I immediately asked.

"You'll be home tonight?" I asked.

"Of course I'll be there; is there something wrong?" He asked with so much concern.

"Nothing; I just want to spend the rest of the day with you," I said while I opened the balcony. The fresh air welcomed me, and I watched the cars moving around that looked like toys from here.

"You miss me that much, huh?" He chuckled softly.

"Apart from that," I said, and I stopped talking for a moment. Gosh, I can't help but panic a little.

"Apart from what?" he asked.

"I just want to celebrate this day," I said, and I kissed my lips after.

"What's the occasion, love?" He asked, and now I can sense that he's starting to get curious about it.

I took a breath before I spoke.

"Nothing, just the first day of us being an official couple," I said, trying to sound cool.

He didn't answer for a second, and all I can hear is his breathing in the background. I called his name twice before he spoke.

"You meant that?" he asked.

"Of course I do," I softly whispered.

And with that, I heard him take a deep breath.

"Finally," he said, and I thought he had already finished speaking, but then he said something again, which made me smile.

"I love you, love."

Finally.
