Chapter 96: Chapter 96

Chapter 96 Defeating Lanny

Lanny dragged Bella step by step up the cliff, ignoring her sister's desperate cries for help. There was no time to lose for Lanny had caught the scent of several werewolves closing in. Time was running out for her. Lanny knew that she had to act fast if she did not want to be caught by Edward's men. Her focus now was to get rid of stupid Bella as soon as possible and then escape before anyone saw her.

But as she dragged her sister up the treacherous cliff, Lanny began to tire. When did Bella start putting on so much weight? It was almost impossible to pull her up the cliff. The path, just ten meters from the cliff, was extremely difficult to walk, and this was slowing her down.

Irritated, she whipped her head around to look at Bella only to find that her sister was clinging to the trunk of a tree on the side of the road. How dare that bitch defy her?

"You dumbass! Where the hell did you get that much strength? Why don't you let go and just accept your fate? You are so useless; your whole life is meaningless! Let me finish you off and send you to Hades," Lanny spoke in a menacing tone.

The insults were blurred in Bella's ears. The extreme fear of the impending doom left her with no time to think about anything else; the only thought that crossed her mind was to fight for her life, no matter what it took. She was now in an adrenaline rush. Bella clung to the roadside tree trunk, her arms and hands covered in bright red blood.

Annoyed with Bella's resistance, Lanny kicked Bella's hands until they were bruised and her arms swollen. But despite all this, Bella refused to let go. Furious, Lanny let out a grunt. She could already feel Edward's men approaching. She gave up kicking Bella's hands and kicked Bella's head instead, smashing it like someone smashing a coconut shell with a hammer.

The excruciating pain made Bella shriek, but Lanny did not stop. Instead, she kicked even harder, so much so that Bella's consciousness slowly faded. Things began to spin and distort until finally, there was total darkness. She had put up a good fight even though she was weaker than her sister. Unable to resist any longer, she finally gave up and let the life-saving trunk slip away from her grasp.

'I can't feel any pain anymore. Did she stop or am I dying? I guess this is death. Goodbye, Edward. Please, forgive me,' that was the last conscious thought in Bella's head.

Bella's breathing was becoming more and more shallow. Everything was pitch black, but in the midst of all this, a voice popped into her head, encouraging her to not give up, "Wake up, Bella. Don't you dare to give up. You can do this. Get up RIGHT NOW!"

Bella flung open her eyes and saw a beautiful white wolf emerging from the darkness. It had golden pupils and deep, fierce eyes as if it had a magic power that could suck anyone's soul.

"Oh! Am I dreaming or is this real? Who are you?" Bella asked.

"I am your wolf, Bella," the wolf replied.

"My wolf? No, you're mistaken, I don't have a wolf," she denied, still unsure whether she was dreaming or not.

"The one who is mistaken is you. I have always existed within you, though I was not awakened. But now that you are on the verge of death, I'm here to offer you my power. Will you accept it?" the white wolf asked.

"Yes, please. Give it to me. Give me the power that I so desperately need," Bella pleaded. She was all in.

As soon as she had said those words, a force of unimaginable magnitude poured into Bella's body, making the agonizing pains caused by the blows she had received to instantly vanish. Bella opened her eyelids, and with newfound courage and strength, she successfully broke free from Lanny's clutches. And then, to Lanny's utter shock, Bella began to shift.

It was her first shift.

Sharp pointy fangs began to grow in her mouth, her fingers and nails turned into sharp claws, and white fur started to grow from her limbs and soon, her whole body was covered in snowy white fur. Usually, a werewolf's first shift would be accompanied by great pain, but because she had already been marked by her mate, her shift was exceptionally smooth and pretty much pain-free.

The white beautiful wolf marched toward Lanny who now cowered in fear. Then, with impressive strength, Bella's wolf lifted Lanny high up in the air before slamming her back to the ground and letting out a menacing growl at her.

"What the hell???" Lanny shrieked. Quickly, she backed up in fear until she reached the edge of the cliff. She was so stunned and scared that she missed her footing, stumbled on a rock and fell off the cliff.

It should have been the end of Lanny, but it wasn't for lady luck was on her side that day. Miraculously, she had grabbed onto a pine tree growing between the rocks and she held onto it for dear life. She took a few deep breaths, pulled herself together and started to climb upward.

No, she was not going to go so easily. Her time on Earth could not be that short. Her life still had a purpose, and no one could take it away. Especially not Bella.

Meanwhile, Edward and his men finally arrived and when he saw the shocking sight awaiting, he gasped but then relief swept over him.

"My Luna," he walked over and embraced the white wolf, stroking her fur, "My dear, you always surprise me. Not only are you not weak, but you are also stronger than everyone. This time, you got out of the danger by yourself. I'm so proud of you, Bella."

The white wolf rubbed the tip of her nose against Edward's hand, and he instantly understood what she meant.

"Jack, bring me two sets of clean clothes," he ordered.

"Yes, sir," Jack turned away from the cliffside and told the other bodyguards to move away, leaving Edward and Bella alone to bond in their animalistic form.

"Where is Lanny now?" Edward asked the transformed Bella.

The white wolf made a gesture toward the bottom of the cliff.

"She fell?" Edward asked, a little surprised, but then he said in a calm voice, "It's a tragedy, but she deserved it." He looked at Bella, then without saying anything further, he too shifted into a huge brown wolf and joined Bella's white wolf in intimacy right on the edge of the cliff. And boy, was it one heck of a mating.

After some time, Lanny finally reached the top of the cliff. She had escaped death. Once back to safety, she fell to the ground, her arms and legs now weakened. Looking up, she saw a white wolf and a brown wolf looking at her coldly, and she didn't have to guess who they were.

'Son of bitch, I'm still alive,' Lanny cursed secretly, 'Edward, you lied to me again, you didn't lose the wolf at all. Don't you worry, I'll get back at you hard, I swear.'

"Help me," Lanny cried in a small voice for help, "I have no more strength," she whimpered. Then she put on an Oscar-winning act and pretended to faint.

At the same moment, Jack reappeared, now with some clean clothes. Edward and Bella reassumed their human form, got dressed and went down the hill.

"Bella, my dear, never would I have thought that you were a white wolf. The white wolf is the rarest of our kind. The blood of the white wolf is immune to wolfsbane. Hunters and Rogues are eager to get the blood of the white wolf. I would strongly advise that you hide your identity, otherwise you will easily incur danger," Edward said. He was now very concerned.

"But Lanny knows, and several other wolves know," she said, worried.

"Relax, those werewolves are from my pack so you don't need to worry. As for Lanny, I shall deal with her later," Edward reassured her.

"Fair enough. One more question, though. I'm curious, didn't you lose your wolf? How were you able to shift?"

"I'm guessing the same reason your wolf appeared, because of our mate bond," Edward said with a smile, holding her hand tightly.

Lanny, who was pretending to be unconscious, was carried down the hill by Jack. Then she was brought to the police station by the couple to be charged with suspicion of intentional injury. Once she regained 'consciousness', she was then taken into custody.
