Chapter 91: Chapter 91

Chapter 91 Lanny Is Here

As soon as Lanny was free from the supervision of the Whites, she booked the earliest flight to Hawaii, not even taking the time to pack any of her belongings. Her face was withered due to the lack of adequate rest she had received since her miscarriage, yet her eyes were unusually bright and her spirits extremely exuberant. She looked like a lunatic.

She was wearing a loose white pajama dress with a dried blood stain on the top cuff, which she had accidentally gotten when she was digging her keys out of her father's pocket.

***Flashback***

A day earlier, the Whites had received the unfortunate news of Lanny's miscarriage and immediately drove to Santa Barbara to visit her at the hospital. They were distressed to see their daughter lying weakly in the hospital bed. According to Lanny, she had miscarried because she had pushed her body to the limit while swimming, she had fainted on the beach after exerting the last of her strength. She was then taken to the hospital by some kind-hearted people.

At Lanny's request, Mr. and Mrs. White did the necessary to have her discharged from the hospital and booked a hotel for her to recuperate. Thanks to the powerful self-healing ability of werewolves, her body recovered quickly, though not fully. Her parents wanted to take her back to Los Angeles, but Lanny refused. She didn't dare to go back at all. Edward had come to arrest her himself, and she would be as good as dead if she went back. She didn't know how much evidence the police had gathered on Bob's death, and she didn't dare to bet on it.

The Whites were unaware of what their eldest daughter was really thinking, and they simply assumed that Lanny didn't want to go back because she hated Bella and Edward.

"Come back with us, Lanny. Bella and Edward are off on a trip, and we promise you, they won't bother you," they tried to convince her.

Hearing this, Lanny was immediately alerted, "On a trip! Why so sudden?"

"Here's the thing..." and thus they told Lanny everything about Edward and Bella's decision to go to Hawaii.

A small, imperceptible smile crossed Lanny's face. It turned out that Bella couldn't even remember what she had seen at the time, so the police had no other evidence. Lanny had already disposed of all the physical evidence, including the bloodstained box and the car, and she was fearless. But Bella still posed a real threat. Despite not being able to remember anything for the time being, who was to say that she wouldn't remember something one day?

"Where did they travel to?" she asked, her evil mind already plotting malevolent schemes.

"Hawaii," Mrs. White replied. "Wait, what are you asking that for?"

"No reason other than I'm just concerned about them," Lanny said perfunctorily, rolling her eyes at her mother, whom she hated for looking at her with scrutiny.

"I'm pretty sure they're doing well on their own without you being concerned about them. You just need to focus on yourself and take care of yourself," the perceptive Mrs. White had already sensed the impurity of her daughter's intentions.

"Sure. Got it," she replied impatiently. "You guys should leave now. I need to rest." She turned around, closed her eyes and pretended to sleep.

When her parents left, Lanny flung open her eyes, jumped out of bed and walked towards the door. She twisted the doorknob and found that it would not open.

"Fuck!" she cursed, rapping hard on the door, "How can you lock me up! Let me out!" she yelled but in response to her, was only dead silence.

She paced around the room, thinking of a way to escape. She was too weak now to shift into a wolf and break through the door. Even more frustrating was that the room was on the 20th floor and jumping would be a death sentence. She glanced out the window and sighed heavily. The only way out was to wait for Mom and Dad to come visit her.

A few hours later, Mr. White came in with a tray. "Lanny, here's your lunch, honey," he said.

Lanny turned her back to him and made no reply.

"Sweetie, don't sulk. Come on, you need to eat," Mr. White said, trying to soothe her.

"No! I won't eat a single bite unless you let me out," Lanny grunted. "Why are you holding me captive? Tell me!" she scowled. Her shoulders shook slightly from her emotional outburst.

Mr. White stepped forward, squeezed her shoulders and said gently, "Relax, we're just afraid you'll be in danger if you go out. You're vulnerable right now. You know that, right?"

Lanny turned abruptly and looked angrily at her father saying, "Lies! You're a liar! I won't believe your bullshit!"

"Lanny! We are not holding you captive. Your mother and I will be there for you if you want to go out," Mr. White's tone was now stern.

Seeing her father's change in attitude, Lanny's tone eased, "Dad, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have gotten mad at you. I didn't mean to. I was just bored out of my mind staying in this room for such a long time. Can you please let me out of my room? I want to go into the living room for a while and read some book. I won't run away, I promise you," she tried hard to squeeze out a few tears to make herself look more pitiful.

Mr. White's expression softened, "My poor child, I'll show you out of the room." He didn't have much to worry about as the entire suite had locked doors and not even a fly could get out.

Mr. White took the key out of his pocket and opened the door leading to the living room, followed by Lanny. But just as Mr. White walked over to the couch, Lanny grabbed a wax figure from the shelf and struck the back of her father's head, well aware that it was a sensitive spot. He had undergone surgery for a brain bruise only the previous year. Mr. White collapsed, unconscious, blood oozing out from the back of his head. Soon, a small pool of blood formed on the floor and his shirt became blood-soaked.

Lanny knelt beside him and called out softly, "Daddy, daddy."

She was relieved to see that her father did not respond. He was out cold. She rummaged through her father's pockets for the keys, her cuffs stained with his warm blood. Using his keys, she managed to successfully escape the suite without anyone seeing her. As for her father's condition, she couldn't care less. That was how evil she had become.

***The Present***

Lanny boarded the plane and, in a few hours, she would be able to find Bella and Edward. She was not afraid to come face to face with Edward. But the purpose of her trip was to witness for herself whether Bella really didn't remember what she had seen when the crash had happened. If so, they could remain 'good' sisters, otherwise, she would do whatever it would take to keep Bella's mouth shut.
