Chapter 70: Chapter 70
Chapter 70 Evidence and Witnesses
"Of course, it's not true, honey," Edward said as he moved to the table with his wheelchair.
He picked up the photos and scrutinized them. A soft laugh escaped his mouth, and he chose one image to be passed around.
"Do you guys notice anything wrong with this picture?" Edward asked; a grin lingered on his lips.
The crowd shook their heads after carefully observing it.
"No."
"Neither did I."
"It's just a normal photo."
Lewis was the last one to get the photo. He studied it carefully, and his expression gradually became serious after looking at it closely. "The photo is edited."
Bob was shocked to hear that. He hurriedly snatched it from Lewis, examined it, and argued. "Impossible, absolutely impossible! These photos are all taken by me. They can never be fake."
"I'm a professional graphic designer, and I can't be wrong. Although it is processed very naturally, when you look carefully, you can spot the flaws." Lewis took the photo again and slammed it on the table to further discuss his observations. "The edges had blurred lines because the figure was edited into the background. Also, the tone is warm, while the background leans more toward the natural cold lighting. If you ask another expert to assess the photo, they would surely notice the same things."
"No, no, no! This can't be happening!" Bob was livid, then turned to Edward with a sharp glare. "It must be Edward who did this!"
Lewis roughly drew a few photos to examine but only sighed heavily. "No need to waste time looking at them. They are all fake, just like the first one."
At that moment, everyone's attention was all on Bob. They stared at him with pity and disgust while Lanny's eyes were screaming murder.
Bob's legs turned to jelly, and he fell to the floor. His head was covered with beads of sweat. "There's n-no way this is happening..." he muttered, his lips trembling in denial. "This can't be... It must have secretly tampered."
Edward looked at him coldly, turning impatient. "Instead of blabbering, why don't you tell me who asked you to do this?"
Bob glanced at Lanny, who looked at him with so much threat. He could only grit his teeth and swallow the bitterness in his stomach, taking all the blame. "No one instructed me. I like Bella; that's why I did this."
Bella's face turned red from fury. She could not hold herself back, walking up to Bob and giving him a hard slap. "You have no shame!" she yelled. "I can still remember how you tried to harass me while working at the company, and now, you even tried to frame my husband. What kind of monster are you?!"
"Bella..." Edward reached out to his wife and calmed her down with his touch. He then looked at Bob again to urge him to admit the truth. "You said that you took all those pictures yourself. If that was true, that only proved that you were stalking me all these times, which was obviously against the law."
Bob's eyes widened at that. He felt like he had just fallen for another trap.
"If you still don't want to confess who instructed you to frame me, I will immediately call the police," Edward added.
"No!" As soon as he heard the word "police," Bob was utterly terrified. He crawled to Edward's legs and confessed. "Please don't c-call the police! I'm begging you! It was Lanny who ordered me to do all these things!"
The next second, Lanny rushed over and kicked him fiercely. "How dare you accuse me?!" she shouted. "You must be out of your mind trying to drag me into your mess!"
Lanny warily checked the others, but they just turned away after meeting her gaze. She could only imagine what they were thinking.
"Lanny, don't try to deny it anymore. I have the messages you sent me on my phone." Bob quickly pulled his phone out to prove himself but was instantly snatched by Lanny.
"Okay! I admit it!" Lanny frustratedly said. "I commissioned Bob to investigate Edward, but I'm just concerned about my sister. She doesn't deserve to be deceived by her own husband."
"Oh, please, Lanny," Bella cut her off. "We both know you don't care about me at all."
Laney put a hand on Bella's shoulder and said with a gentle smile. "Let me explain, sister," she said. "I've been suspicious of my brother-in-law's leg injury and found a witness who can prove that."
"Where is your witness, then?"
All the people in the room looked at each other, thinking that the witness was just among them. However, Lanny raised her head proudly and surveyed Edward in his wheelchair.
'Edward, the show is just starting,' she thought.
"Come on in!" Lanny clapped her hands and shouted in the direction of the door.
On cue, everyone turned to follow her line of vision with expectant looks. A middle-aged man, wearing eyeglasses and a suit, pushed the door open and walked in.
"Dr. Leonard!" Bella immediately recognized the man and approached him with hurried steps. "How... W-why are you here?"
"Miss Bella, it's good to see you again," Leonard greeted her with a courteous smile. "Miss Lanny asked me to come over to tell you something."
At that moment, Bella's eyes widened when she finally realized that Dr. Leonard was Lanny's witness. She bewilderedly looked at Edward. "Edward... What is this all about?"
Unexpectedly looking relieved and nonchalant, Edward casually shrugged and replied, "I don't know."
"Leonard, don't waste our time and just tell us everything you know," Lanny impatiently said.
Everyone's eyes were fixed on Dr. Leonard. They all expected him to give them enlightenment and speak the truth regarding Edward's allegedly fake injury.
Sensing everyone's anticipation, Leonard finally cleared his throat and prepared to speak. He took a step forward to meet everyone's gaze. "Last Monday, a tall, young man barged into my office and held a gun to my head...."
Becky and Anna could not help gasping after hearing how Dr. Leonard's story started. Lanny raised a brow, and a satisfied smile crept to her lips.
"The man asked me to forge a medical file for him and threatened to kill me if I didn't cooperate," Leonard continued while taking an envelope out from his briefcase. He handed it to Anna, who was the nearest guest to him.
Out of curiosity, Anna did not hesitate to open the envelope and was dumbfounded when she read the words written on the medical file.
Name: Edward Wilson
Gender: Male
Finding/s: Multiple gunshot wounds of silver bullets on the leg, leading to nerve necrosis.
Once Anna had finished reading it, she passed the file to the next person to read until it finally reached Bella.
"Oh-and I forgot to mention...." Dr. Leonard adjusted his eyeglasses and continued, "The man also told me that the one who sent him was the patient on the file-Edward Wilson."
