Chapter 60: Chapter 60

Chapter 60 President got jealous again!

Bella went back to the president's office, feeling extremely apprehensive. She tried to continue working, but she could not focus as her thoughts kept traveling back to her conversation with her colleagues.

With a heavy sigh, Bella stopped forcing herself to work. She rested her elbows on the table, then covered her face with her hands.

'Why can't I refuse them?' Bella frustratedly asked herself.

Being submissive was one of Bella's flaws. She could not say no to people, no matter how unreasonable the requests were. It was a fucked up habit that she had developed since she was a child.

With that thought in mind, Bella recalled what happened when she was only six years old.

***

It was Bella's first day at the elementary school. Mrs. White had helped her pack her things and organized everything in a new, expensive backpack before doing her work in the study.

Bella was left outside the house, waiting for the school bus to pick her up. It was not soon after Lanny showed up and yanked her backpack from her, almost pushing Bella to the ground.

"This is mine now!" Lanny declared with a smug smile.

"No! Mom bought this for me!" Bella tried to take her bag back.

However, no matter how much she pulled, Bella was no match for Lanny. She was born without a wolf, unlike her sister.

Lanny grimaced as she did not like how Bella had the guts to fight back and go against her.

Anger rose in her chest. To ensure that Bella knew her position in the hierarchy, Lanny pushed her claws out and began slashing Bella's backpack. One by one, the books and other stuff inside fell to the ground.

Bella could only stare, heartbroken. She knew it was a warning from Lanny. She did not want to push her buttons.

Once Lanny had finished venting her frustration on the bag, she shifted her attention to Bella. "Oops! I don't want this anymore," she said, then shoved the backpack onto Bella's chest. "You can have this again, my dear sister."

Bella did not take the backpack and just let it fall along with her other things while staring at her sister. Her lack of reaction triggered another violent reaction from Lanny, who suddenly grabbed her by the collar and threatened to gouge Bella's eyes out with her sharp claws.

"No! Please, don't hurt me!" Bella screamed at the top of her lungs.

Her frightened screams drew Mrs. White out of the study. She rushed to see what was happening, and her eyes widened to see the helpless Bella in the hands of her older daughter.

Mrs. White immediately pulled Lanny away from the horrified Bella without wasting any second. She then pointed at all the stuff scattered on the floor.

"What happened here?" Mrs. White demanded answers.

As if it was not her doing, Lanny just crossed her arms, leaving Bella to explain everything that happened. Bella expected her mother to comfort her, but her mother turned to Lanny instead with a comforting gaze.

"Lanny, if you want a backpack like that one, you can just tell me, and I will buy it for you right away," Mrs. White told Lanny.

"No. I only want Bella's backpack." Lanny turned away.

Mrs. White was slightly caught off guard. However, she just nodded before looking at her younger daughter. "Bella, if your sister wants something from you next time, promise me that you'll give it to her, okay?"

Despite feeling unfair, Bella nodded her head while crying. She could not understand why her mother would constantly dote on Lanny, but she just thought that was the right thing to do as she was nothing compared to Lanny.

Happy with how her mother favored her, Lanny hugged Mrs. White and flashed a bright smile. "Mom, please buy me a new backpack so that Bella can use my old one instead."

Without any hesitation, Mrs. White nodded. "Sure thing, sweetheart. Thanks for being so thoughtful," she said, then turned to Bella again. "Why don't you thank your sister, Bella? She's going to give you her bag."

"T-thank you, Lanny...." Bella forced the words out of her trembling lips to avoid causing more trouble.

Feeling satisfied with how the events turned out, Lanny excitedly ran back to her room and took one of her oldest backpacks. She then returned outside, leaving the old bag at Bella's feet so she could clean the mess on her own.

"Mom, let's go! Please drive me to school now!" Lanny beamed at her mother.

As usual, Mrs. White agreed to Lanny's request. The two immediately left for school, leaving the poor, young Bella behind.

The president sat behind his desk while stealing glances at Bella from time to time. He immediately noticed the change in her mood when she returned from the administrative office.

It was completely different from what he had imagined. He thought he would see Bella's sweet smile after receiving his gift, but she seemed to be experiencing a great dilemma instead.

As he was focused on Bella, the president did not notice Kelvin walking up to him with his coffee.

"President..." Kelvin carefully called his attention, then placed the cup of coffee on his table. "Your coffee."

The president glanced at the cup. He was uninterested at first, but an idea struck his mind. He then waved his hand, asking Kelvin to move closer.

"Bring the coffee to Bella instead, please," he whispered to his secretary while his eyes fixed on Bella.

Kelvin was slightly taken aback by his request, but eventually, a soft smile formed on his lips. "No problem, President."

The president watched Kelvin as he walked to Bella's desk and did as he instructed. Although his secretary seemed to lack masculinity and dressed too fancy for his liking, he began to see him as someone very reliable.

"Bella!" Kelvin happily walked over to Bella. "Coffee for you."

Kelvin cautiously placed the coffee on her desk as he did not want to spill it on her new laptop.

"Oh, thanks!" Bella brightened up a little as she picked up the coffee. Once she took a sip, she could not help but exclaim, "Wow! This tastes really good! I can't understand why the president would pick on the coffee you made last time..." she whispered as she glanced at the president.

Kelvin sheepishly smiled and scratched the back of his nape. Bella's single praise for his barista skills instantly made up for all the criticisms he got from the president.

The two exchanged smiles which caused the president to feel agitated. He held the mouse tightly, close to crushing it into pieces.

As if they felt the dark aura emitting from the president, Bella and Kelvin's smiles faded as they turned their heads to look at him. When they saw the frown on his face, they hurriedly returned to their seats and continued working.

'I'm so stupid! I should've given the coffee to her myself!" The president was filled with regret.

Like the last time, he wanted to pick on Kelvin as his way of revenge. However, his promise to Bella made him back down and kept all the evil thoughts to himself.
