Chapter 1021: Chapter 1021
"What's next on the agenda?"
Liu Zheng fell into contemplation.
He can't exactly flaunt himself around now, feels like there's really nothing to do.
Once the Criminal Investigation Bureau hears that the "Xingzhen" firm has been shut down, they'll probably come after him like madmen.
Bumping into them would be like thunder meeting wildfire, a crazy girl encountering a rogue, definitely going to end in a bloodbath.
Liu Zheng doesn't plan on making an enemy of the Criminal Investigation Bureau; he could just walk away, but Doctor Nile and his crew would have a hard time.
And there's Niu Ma; being under the Bureau's watch, jumping to do smuggling or even delivering takeouts becomes difficult.
"Forget it, let's head back to the lounge first."
Liu Zheng shook his head, turned around, and walked into the delivery corridor.
Back in the lounge, he called White Feather Chicken to come and pick up the thermal box.
Keeping something unknown in his hands is useless; might as well give it back to White Feather Chicken to spare a favor.
"You really didn't open it, huh."
White Feather Chicken said upon taking the thermal box.
"Uh, didn't you say don't open it, at your own risk?"
Liu Zheng asked, puzzled.
"If it were Salmon, it would've opened it for sure."
"If I had nine lives, I'd do the same."
"That's just a myth, cats don't have nine lives. Besides, your endless life extension trumps nine lives any day."
White Feather Chicken commented, inspecting his newborn-like tender skin.
"You're not planning to cook me into a soup again, are you?"
Liu Zheng asked warily.
"If you want to, I wouldn't mind."
White Feather Chicken replied.
"I don't want to. But if the kitchen is short on hands, I could lend a hand. After all, with the Bureau watching me closely, it's not easy to be running around outside."
"I think you're just looking for an excuse to hang out with Salmon, right?"
White Feather Chicken saw through his intentions.
"Heh, and maybe snag some free meals while I'm at it."
Liu Zheng said cheekily.
"The kitchen's a restricted area; not just anyone can waltz in. If you want to scrounge food, it's easy, just transfer to the kitchen."
White Feather Chicken glanced sidelong at him.
"Boss Chef, please don't test me; I'm wholeheartedly loyal to the delivery department, unwavering."
Liu Zheng shook his head.
"Then who are you putting on a show for?"
White Feather Chicken asked.
"Ah, I thought it came back and you were trying to set me up."
He scratched his head.
White Feather Chicken dismissed him with a look of disdain and walked away.
"Calling names, and you're supposed to be the leader, show some class."
Liu Zheng muttered in disdain after it walked away.
Feeling bored in the lounge, he flipped through a newspaper until an unfamiliar call came through.
It took him several seconds to remember it was the number of that waiter from Hundred Ghosts.
"Sir, the Breathing Technique has been found."
The waiter said enthusiastically.
"Great. Uh, keep it with you for now, I'll come by when I'm free."
Liu Zheng thought for a moment and said.
For a split second, he really considered heading to Hundred Ghosts' with a sense of excitement; Bathhouse Street would surely be more entertaining than this lounge.
But in the end, Liu Zheng gave up on the idea, as the Criminal Investigation Bureau might just be lurking nearby.
Asking the waiter to deliver it was something he couldn't bring himself to do. Follow current novels on novel·fıre·net
"Damn Criminal Investigation Bureau."
Liu Zheng couldn't resist cursing.
Usually bustling like a top in Inception, he'd of course welcome a break, but voluntary rest and forced rest are two different things.
Plus, this day off was hard-earned, and he had hoped to make full use of it to clear his tasks at hand.
Now, with the Bureau's interruption, many things would have to be postponed again.
It's just a saying, one can't fight with the authorities, whether in reality or in the Metropolis it's a golden rule.
Were it not for the fact that Liu Zheng had the backing of a Bloody Restaurant equal to the officials, the Criminal Investigation Bureau would have already launched a three-way siege on him.
Unfortunately, Liu Zheng didn't have the Tomb Guardian's number, otherwise, he would've asked the Tomb Guardian to send the thin horse to take him to the cemetery.
Although there's nothing particularly fun about a cemetery, it beats the emptiness of the lounge.
Oh, the Tomb Guardian might ask him to rob a tomb, so forget it.
Feeling restless, Liu Zheng took up an arm exerciser and tried executing his plan to solve muscle soreness through tentacle smashing.
Turns out, the idea worked.
By the time he reached 2500 reps, 4399's call finally came through.
"The Criminal Investigation Bureau has released the people."
"Temporarily resolved. Executives from several departments exchanged views and managed to suppress the issue."
"The Bureau won't retaliate later, will they?"
He was a bit concerned.
"Not in the short term, anyway. They took a hit too, but we paid a price."
"We have to give up two internal exam spots next year for them."
Every year, the City Hall conducts an internal exam for temporary workers; passing it grants official employee status.
The exam pass rate is high, but the spots are extremely limited, resulting in fierce competition among city hall departments each year.
"That's too cheap for them."
Liu Zheng said indignantly.
"The organization has been too flashy lately, taking a hit isn't entirely a bad thing. The tallest trees catch the most wind; same goes for you."
"Believe it or not, I've always wanted to keep a low profile."
They always say to live low-key and do things high-key, but the cases he's been assigned are more outrageous one after another, he has no way to be low-key even if he wanted to.
