Chapter 31: Chapter 31

The ambulance made it early to the scene after being called by a good Samaritan who lived close by.

Police sirens also screaming into the night.

Mrs. Romero watched Adriana being carted away in a gurney for treatment as the police questioned her about the accident.

She explained to the detail what happened to blame Walter for being reckless.

Just then she remembered Walter.

She turned to the mangled vehicle to see Firemen trying to get Walter out.

"Were you also involved in the accident?" The policeman asked.

"I was in the car." She rudely retorted wondering why he would ask such a dumb question.

"Then you better get a checkup."

Mrs. Romero took the officer's advice and joined the ambulance before it left.

The vehicle took no time in getting to the hospital. Walter and Adriana's lookalike were rushed to the emergency ward.

Ema is immediately hurried to the room prepared for her.

The doctors burst in and begin to do their job; Checking for vital signs. Luckily she was still breathing.

Clinging to life like she had one last mission to fulfill.

This gives the doctors hope and MRI scan is swiftly called for.

The scan shows a lesion which was probably gotten from the impact of the accident. It wasn't fatal though.

She might just survive.

Mrs. Romero waited outside unable to keep calm. The doctors had remained inside for thirty minutes, it was getting worrying. She had received confirmation that Walter was alright and had even regained consciousness but she couldn't go and check on him. She was so disturbed.

If that girl died, it would be a punishment from the heavens.

She could kill her daughter twice.

That tore up the sealed wounds.

Mrs. Romero cried, taking her seat again to think.

Mrs. Romero cleared her teary eyes and rushed to the doctor immediately she saw him get out of the ICU.

"Is she alright Doctor Suarez?"

Mrs. Romero happened to know the doctor. He was her close friend.

"Yes." Doctor Suarez replied, " She has a severe brain injury and we had to place her in an induced coma. Hopefully, she should be alright in the next twenty-four hours."

Mrs. Romero heaved, slightly relieved.

"But she did look a lot like Adriana. Did you notice?"

How could she not notice?

"I did."

Mrs. Romero spotted Doctor Suarez's brows puff up. That only happened when he was worried.

"Are you sure you'll be ok?"

Frankly, she didn't know how to react. She had tried to move on. She had blamed multiple people and most importantly, Nathan for destroying everything she ever cared about, Adrian, Adriana and Thomas buy she knew she couldn't dwell on the past, and just when she decided to move on, ' she' showed up.

"I'll be." Mrs. Romero assured and smiled at Suarez just to stop him from getting all worked up.

"Can I go and see her?"

"Sure just be alright." Dr. Suarez replied, patting Mrs. Romero's back.

Mrs. Romero struggled to keep her sanity together as she approached the room. The door was red and fucked up like her. It felt like the room she locked every evil.

She opened the door and was immediately sent into nausea thanks to the strange smell the room gave.

Drugs.

She bled seeing Adriana connected to machines to support her.

The heart monitor beeped.

She walked towards the bed just to see her face. She burst into tears once again remembering her little girl.

"You know, you look just like my Adriana." She mumbled to the sleeping beauty, "she was a brave girl who tried to be everyone's angel and it killed her, Her father took her life."

Mrs. Romero clutched the asleep girl's hands as tears poured out freely.

"I hope you're ok."

Just then she felt the girl squeeze her hands almost as she could hear her.

It has her a joy she could not comprehend.

Mrs. Contreras let worry into her heart and maybe she was right to.

She hadn't slept all night hoping Ema would come back home but the girl's shadow hadn't even shown up.

For the first time, her husband also showed concerned. Not that he didn't blame her for it all but she knew he

was right, she deserved it.

"Where could she have gone?" Mrs. Contreras pondered.

"Maybe where you pushed her to, The Tocci's." Her husband commented.

She brushed his thought off but still, he could be right.

She picked up the phone she had abandoned on the table and dialed him.

Fuck he wasn't picking.

This only escalated her fears. Maybe he was mad at her, she must have failed. She couldn't lose Ema now.

"Maybe we should visit the Tocci's to question them?"

Her husband seemed to take the idea quite negatively,

"Are you sane? You went to accuse people when we are not even sure she's there? You need help."

This was just like him, a pessimistic being.

The phone rang and Mrs. Contreras rushed to see who was calling.

It wasn't Rodriguez, just some random number.

Nonetheless, she picked it up.

"Are these the Contreras?"

"Yes. Can I help you?"

"Your daughter Ema Contreras was involved in an auto crash."

"What!" Mrs. Contreras shrieked.

"She's at the general hospital."

Mrs. Contreras felt her heart forcing itself out of its cage after she hung up.

"What happened?" Her husband demanded, seeing the swift change in her expression.

"Ema had an accident." She stammered.

Mr. Contreras turned glum before he proceeded inside to get his keys, cursing, and swearing on the way.

Mrs. Contreras blamed herself, if only she hasn't let Ema out of her sight that night.

I hope you're alright Ema.

Camille added the usual pills to the ones Nathan had to take to get better.

He took it all down without hesitating and returned to his childish self. Camille always wondered what was in the pills that made Nathan so retarded.

"Well let's go downstairs for breakfast." She said to the man like he was some child.

Nathan got up, walking like a drunkard.

The drug was just kicking in.

"I don't feel so good." Nathan voiced holding his head to soothe the pulsing veins that made his headache.

"No, you're alright Nathan. Just come with me." Camille tried to shrug his word off. He was only being childish, she thought perhaps until he collapsed right in front of her.

"Get up." She immediately rushed to his side, shaking him violently in her bid to keep alive.

This was bad, very bad.

"Wake up Nathan, please."

Miranda happened to hear the ruckus and rushed upstairs.

"What happened to him?" She quizzed Camille.

"I don't know." The maid stammered.

Miranda began to fear the worst when she saw Nathan foaming.

"Call 911" she ordered the maid who got up and scampered outside.

Camille got her phone and called Rodriguez.

Miranda planned on getting Nathan to the hospital and that could be disastrous for her especially after all she had done.

Unfortunately, he wasn't picking.

In a panic, she discovered that he had sent a text earlier saying that he would not be able to pick her calls.

Of all days.

"Have you called 911?" Miranda yelled from inside.

Camille weighed the consequences. She would be done for if Nathan survived, Maybe it was time for him to go.

Yes, Nathan had to die.
