Chapter 115: Chapter 115

(Avery’s Thoughts)

It is nine in the morning, I am taking a sip from this cup of coffee while currently looking at my wall scratching out things from my bucket list one by one.

“Go to a casino, done, scratch it… Fit the wedding gown, done, scratch it… Hang out with bestie, done, scratch it…” I smile feeling great seeing my progress here.

The next on the list would be ‘Donating Egg Cells’. I don’t know why but after watching a lot of documentaries about surrogacy, IVF, and couple having troubles getting pregnant, it makes me aware that not all can be given a chance to be a mother.

Somehow, I believe I might help others, and besides, I have such great genes, duh?!

A few minutes later my phone buzzes and the screen displays my day calendar appointment, “Seattle's Fertility Center appointment at 10.”

Okay, I guess I’ll get going. Before I go out of my hotel room, an unregistered number appear on my phone screen and I immediately know who it is, so I answer happily, “Hey, Dee.”

“I’m here at the entrance,” he announces without even asking me, a typical Dmitri moves.

“Hmm, wait for me there, but too bad I can’t play with you today,” I give him a headsup.

“And the reason is?” his voice sounds disappointed.

“Wait, I’m on the elevator now, see you,” and I cut him off as the elevator closes.

A few steps from the hotel entrance, I see his sexy majestic back just beside his luxury car. I smile seeing him here.

“Dee,” I call to him, and he turns around and waves at me. He embraces me right away and give a peck on my lips before opening the passenger seat door for me, “Thanks,‘ I respond shortly.

Then he drives off without even asking me where to go.

“Hey, I told you I can’t come with you, I have an appointment,” I call him out.

“I know, just go have breakfast with me then,” he says.

“I can’t my appointment is at 10. Don’t mess up my schedule, Dee,” I am pissed.

He looks at me and smiles, “How about lunch? I just want to eat you– I mean eat with you, at least just that?” he even teases me.

I think for a second, “I don’t know what time it will be finished, though. Will it be okay for you to wait?” I hesitantly ask.

“Where are we going again?” finally, he remembers to ask where I plan to go.

I smile at him and casually say, “At the Seattle’s Fertility Center, I will–”

But before I could even finish, I feel the back of my head hit something hard, and the seatbelt almost chokes me when the car goes to an abrupt stop on the side of the road.

“Oh, God, Sorry, are you alright, Avery?” he checks every inch of me. I can see his eyes turn reddish due to the tears he’s been trying to hold back. Then he hugs me for unknown reason, and gently pats my head.

“I am sorry, Avery. I almost get us killed,” he whispers, and his voice is some what full of guilt. So I try to reassure him, “Hey, I’m fine, Look, I am okay. No injuries, no wounds.”

Then he hits his steering wheel, “Shit!”

“Hey, calm down, will you. What were you thinking, anyway?” I laugh as I ask him.

Then his attention is finally back at me, “Well, I, uh, I was surprised when you said where you’re going. D-do you want to have kids now? I mean, do you and Jeff talk about it now? Or does he force you to have a baby? Do you even want a kid?”

His questions come one after another, and I find him really cute. I intentionally don’t respond and it drives him crazy, “Or don’t tell me you already are? Wait?! Did I get you? Or him? Fuck shit!” he panics out of nothing.

I can see his butt couldn’t stay in one place for even a second, so I clarify things.

“The answer to all your question is no, okay?” and I couldn’t help but giggle.

“Then, are you sick? I can get you to a bigger hospital!” his voice rises. So I poke his cheek and his side, “Hey, Dee. Chill, will you?”

“How could I when you–”

“–I will donate some of my egg cells, okay? Are you happy now?” I chuckle again.

Then he rests his head on the steering wheel, “Goodness, Avery! You should have told me!”

“Huh? You were the one who cut me off and jumped to conclusion, remember?” and I roll my eyes at him. “Now, hurry, I don’t want to be late, okay?”

Then he steps on the gas pedal and smoothly go on the left lane, “So why do you want to donate some egg cells. Would you mind donating them to me, instead? Or better, I could donate you some of my sperm cells,” then he grins at me.

“Eyes on the road, Mr. Sullivan. And well, it’s been one of my bucket list, so here I am. And besides my genes are too great not to share,” I boast and he loudly laughs at me.

“Well, that’s what I like about you. Tell me, will you donate them to me, too? In case I consider having my own child in the future,” he asks me.

“Why the hell not? Our children will be damn gorgeous,” I ride with his statement.

“But, I want to do it in a natural way,” then he winks at me, “I have a better idea. Why don’t you donate it to me now? I can drive back to your apartment– I mean my apartment now.”

“You’re crazy, just hurry!” and I look outside the window. And put my palm under my chin.

As the silence grow fonder, I hear him speak up again, “But seriously, Avery, did you ever consider having children? I haven’t, to be honest, not until now,” his voice is serious.

And somehow, this is one thing I like about him, he never acts like an egoistic man regarding major issues, and he does ask me what I want, unlike Seid who wants me to obey all the time, and Jeff, who couldn’t even ask me what I want. I don’t know if he’s afraid of me or what.

“Hmm, I did before, I imagine marrying myself to Seid, but I got hurt and it all faded away. Now, I am a bit stuck, but Jeff and I never talk about it. I mean, if there will be it’s fine, but I never really looking forward to it,” I tell him the truth.

Why is it so easy for me to tell him the truth?

“I see, if I ask you to marry me and have kids with me, will you say yes?” he throws an unexpected question.

So I throw it back at him, “Will you ask me? If yes, then I’ll say yes.”

Before he could answer back, we arrive at our destination. I am about to get off, but he holds my hand, “I’ll go with you.”

I just nod after hearing him, volunteer.

But before we get off the car, he asks me, “Are you serious with your answer, Avery?”

So I directly look at his eyes, “I am, Dmitri. I know you love me, and I do, too. But for some reason, you can’t get married to anyone, and you can’t give me what I want, can you?”

But I smile at him, “Come on, I don’t want to be late.”

Then he gets off the car, and chases after me, and he holds my hand as we enter the facility.

I go out of the interview room and see Dmitri patiently waiting in the lobby. I smile at him when our eyes meet. He didn’t wait for me to come to him, but he starts walking towards me,

“So, did you already donate your precious eggs?” then he laughs. I cling to his arms as we walk to the entrance door.

“Hmm, no. I thought it would be like that, but it isn’t that easy. I need to complete the test first, and then follow all the health tips here, and then go back here after a month to get tested again. Once I pass, they’ll get my eggs,” I explain nonchalantly.

“Hmm, it’s their loss. Seems they don’t want your great genes just yet?” he mocks me laughing. So I pinch him and we laugh at each other as we approach the hotel door.

However, my feet automatically put to halt when I notice a familiar figure, holding some envelope in his hand, entering the premise.

I squeeze Dmitri’s hand. And he looks at me for awhile, until he finally realizes why I stopped,

“Seems trouble,” is what I heard from him as he clicks his tongue. Then he follows a sarcastic statement saying, “This scene is indeed familiar.”

I gulp and look at the man who’s been looking at us for a while now.
