Chapter 42: Chapter 42

Cassandra wished for everything to be a long nightmare, but the reality was cruel, and it slapped her hard on the face, almost made her stumble on her own feet. The war's still going, and there were lots of blood and corpses everywhere.

"Blood, I can't handle this anymore. It's too much. We've sacrificed so many lives in this war. We have to end it," Cassandra seriously said to her mate. He looked at her and let out a smile. Sebastian truly wants to end it, but the enemies were strong. They could see Elijah trying to fend off both Albarin and Ikrur. She gripped the dagger tightly that Alekxia gave her.

"I have a plan, but it comes with a great risk," Cassandra said. Sebastian cupped her face and planted a kiss on her forehead.

"Whatever is it, I'll trust you, love," Sebastian said. He liked how determined Cassandra is. She breathed deeply as she watched Elijah fights Albarin and Ikrur. Cassandra could see Ikrur started to weaken. Elijah can handle him while they fight Albarin.

"Love, are you ready?" Cassandra asked and squeezed his hand. She started explaining the tactic they will use. While speaking, Cassandra couldn't help but quiver. She's not entirely confident that they can pull it off. There are so many what-ifs running in her head.

"It will be alright." Cassandra could feel the wind's whispers. It's like the Moon Goddess was watching over her and guiding her.

"I'm going," Cassandra said and turned her back against her mate. She transformed into her wolf form and ran to where Albarin is. Cassandra saw him pulling a dagger out and aiming it at Elijah, but she rushed and bit his hand, which resulted in Albarin's dropping the blade. He looked at Cassandra and glared while holding his injured hand.

"How are you still alive?! I fucking killed you!" Albarin shouted. Cassandra smirked, taunting him more.

"Haven't I told you? I'm tough to kill, Albarin," Cassandra mockingly said. Albarin's eyes blazed in rage and attacked her. She dodge and glanced at Elijah; she saw him nodded his head.

"You bitch! You should die!" Albarin roared in anger and swung his dagger. Cassandra kept evading his attack. She moved her body to the side and kicked Albarin on his stomach, taking the blow like it was nothing. He smiled devilishly and spoke.

"Is that all you got, Cassandra? Pathetic!" Cassandra chose to ignore him.

"Now!" she shouted. Sebastian threw a chain that binds Albarin. Alekxia prepared the chain. It was a favor Cassandra requested. The same chain that bound Hecatos.

"Sientis."

Albarin shrieked in pain. He thrashed around, trying to break the chain. This was the chance that they needed. They need Albarin to lower his guard for them to attack; that's why Cassandra attacked him earlier. To make him upset. Cassandra walked towards her while panting.

"D—damn y—you!" Albarin said weakly. Cassandra transformed back to her human form and put a dagger on his neck.

"This is the end, Albarin," Cassandra said. Albarin looked at her while laughing out loud. "You really are pathetic, Cassandra. You think these chains can stop me?"

"Get away from him!" Sebastian said. There were traces of dried blood in his nose, and he's unusually pale. It happened so quickly; Albarin was already at the top of her, his dagger was pointed at her. It was the dagger Cassandra was holding earlier.

"Perhaps, this time you will truly die, Cassandra," Albarin said while smirking. Cassandra tried to fight him, but he was too strong for her. Even if Albarin weakened, he was still far more potent than Cassandra. He was about to stab her the second time around, but it never came.

Cassandra saw a sword, plunged deep into Albarin's heart. It came from Sebastian while he was holding it tightly. Sebastian was sweating bullets and panting heavily. He pressed it hard, and Albarin coughs up blood. He glared at me while holding his wound.

"B-bastard, you will p-pay," Albarin gasped weakly until he gradually lost his breathing. His young face turned into an old one before disappearing into thin air. Cassandra also saw Ikrur gasping for air, and like Albarin, he turned into ash and vanished into thin air. It's because

Albarin is dead; all of the power Ikrur wanted was gone. Albarin was his source of power, after all.

After the fierce battle. The many lives that were sacrificed, loved ones who died protecting them, and for the people who believed them wholeheartedly. This is their victory.

Cassandra glanced around her and saw their comrades rejoicing. She didn't know, but she cried. The flashbacks start appearing again. She saw her friends died right in front of me, and she couldn't do anything to protect them. When she saw Albarin's ashes flew away, she felt at ease. Justice was served.

And finally, they won. The war is over. The wizards and witches stood together and cast a spell on Ikrur's soldier, sealing them in darkness, forever. The rogue vampires and wolves are being taken to council for the trials while the others escape. Sebastian looked at her, and he spoke.

"I thought I clearly told you that I don't want you to die in front of me, again?" Cassandra smiled and hugged his waist.

"My bad. It seems like the dagger likes me so much," Cassandra said while chuckling. She hugged him tight and closed her eyes. It's all over now.
