Chapter 42: Chapter 42

I know who he refers to but it's different when it comes to Zaine. I did not know what to say to him, even though he spoke in a normal, calm tone. It was as if I didn't want to accept what I heard.

But, come to think of it. I do have a chance to be with him now. I already have chamce to be with him. He just told me that he is tired of waiting for her to comeback. Does it mean I have the chance to replace her?

I don't know what spirit possessed me that made me this kind of person and think this irrational thoughts. It just showed up immediately. It seemed that, because I liked him so much, I could do anything just to get his attention. I don't care anymore if I will hurt someone as long as I have him.

I smiled at him.

“It's okay, Zaine. You can move on. Trust me, I will help you.”

He looked at me, bewildered.

"I don't need somebody's help." He firmly said and stopped the car. I realized we were in the front of Clifford University.

Zaine came down first and opened up on me. I didn't expect that, but I didn't show him that I was surprised by his simple move. I went out and then he closed it. We entered together to get enroll immediately.

"We can enroll online, Zaine." I said to get his attention.

"Yeah, but Clifford called me, he told me to picked you up." I just nodded.

"Okay, where are they?"

"In the auditorium." He shortly answer without even looking back and still continue walking. "Before we go to them, let's enroll first."

After enrolling, we immediately headed to the auditorium. People here also seem busy. We saw Clifford at the far end near the exit part so we immediately approached him. I saw Chelsea sitting on a monobloc chair near Clifford while holding her forehead. Luke is also here with a camera on his hand while Ethan is leaning against the door near where we are now. He just gave me a smile when he saw me.

"Hey, guys." Zaine greeted them. I approached Chelsea who was now staring at me.

"Hi, Chels!"

"How are you?" She greeted back as well. She looks lethargic because of its pallor.

“It's okay. Why are you pale? ” I check on her. Clifford immediately replied and was now next to Chelsea.

“She almost got into a car accident, tsk. ” He said, annoyed. With worried eyes, I examined her.

"Does anything hurt?" I asked.

"I'm okay Jane, I was just surprised earlier." She replied. "Have you enrolled yet?"

"Yes."

She stared at the both of us, Zaine and I. I couldn't read the way she looked at us. It was as if she was observing us the way shee thought.

"Wait," she stopped me as I was about to approached Luke to say hello. I looked back at Chelsea who was now staring at us seriously.

I was surprised to feel someone holding my wrist. I looked on that direction and was even more surprised to see whose hand it was.

I looked at Zaine, gave him a startled look. He just returned it with a miserly smile when our eyes met. There was a quickening of my heartbeat again, more than I felt when I was with James and the butterflies appearing inside my stomach. I no longer knew what to do. I looked in front of me. Stunned looks was the only thing they threw at the two of us. Even Luke has approached beside Clifford and Chelsea.

"Are you two hiding something from us?" Chelsea asked in astonishment.

"What does that mean, Zaine?" Luke asked seriously, referring to Zaine's holding my hands. Ethan remained leaning against the door as if he just watching us.

I tried to remove Zaine's grip on me but his grip tightened even more. I didn’t want to look back at him because by the time I did that, I knew something bad was going to happen.

I instantly turned to Zaine to see his reaction and like them, I am also waiting for what he will say. He looked at our friends seriously but there was no trace of emotion in his eyes.

"Sorry if I didn't tell you about this before guys," Zaine paused as he looked at them one by one. "Jane is now my fiancé."

My heart seemed to stop beating at what he said. Like a broken record that always been played repeatedly, I heard those words over and over again.

I could see the shock expression registered on their faces. Even I was surprised too. I didn’t expect that to happen right away.

Chelsea was still shocked when we heard it. She stood up in her seat. Luke and CLifford were also the same but instantly went to Zaine's side and drag him somewhere to talk to him. Ethan go with them as well.

I was left with Chelsea who is now still shocked by what we heard. She was wearing her glasses and her hair was tied up into a ponytail. She was wearing a simple T-shirt and jeans. She was very simple to dress but I seemed nervous and intimidated of her presence. It was as if I had suddenly sinned against her. She kind of looked at me differently and the shock was gone from those brown eyes of her.

She cleared her voice. "Enlighten me, Jane."

"Huh?" It was as if I was dumbfounded on what she said. I don't know what to answer.

"Since when?"She asked again.

“It was just recently. Arranged marriage. ”

She stared at me for a moment before her eyes went to Zaine's. She stared at them for a long time now that they were talking seriously with Luke and Ethan.

"I don't know what my reaction will be, Jane."

That’s what I heard when she spoke again.

“I know that Zaine doesn't just agree easily, especially when it comes to her mother's controlling over him. Tita Zandra always do that. I knew Zaine for a long time, he will not made unplanned decisions.”

She looked at me and then gave me a smile.

"Congrats, Jane."

I smiled back at her. I don’t know why I’m worried about her smile. It was just a normal smile but I felt different about it. I feel like I betrayed her, maybe because we didn't told them immediately about my arranged marriage with Zaine.

I just smiled, still looking at her. "Thank you, Chels."

Zaine approached me, unable to identify the expression on his face. His forehead was furrowed and his medium-thick eyebrows almost met. The rest of our friends followed him and I can't read their reactions of their faces.

“Let’s go. I will drive you home,” he said. I looked at Chelsea who was now staring at Zaine's seat before her gaze turned to me. She just nodded at me so I gave her a smile again. I apologized to them for some reasons I don’t know. I felt like I had to do that but they just gave me a smile and said it was okay.
