Chapter 6: Chapter 6
CHAPTER 6: THE AGREEMENT
As I got out of the bathroom to get dressed, I slowly stepped forward while tipping a toe to make sure I could not interrupt my sleeping husband.
I noticed that no one seemed to be moving in the bed, so I approached very carefully to make sure he was no longer there, and yes, the bed is empty, I thought he had already come down, and then I quickly put on my clothes before he comes back and sees me naked.
As I finished dressing up, I glance first in the mirror, fixing my clothes and hair. Then I approached the door of our room to go out downstairs to fulfill the request of the brother of Leonard. I was already out of the room and carefully stepped down the stairs to go to the kitchen.
When I came to the kitchen, I saw Ethan sitting in the chair in front of the table, with different sorts of food ready. As if he was the husband of mine who gladly prepare food for his beloved wife.
As I imagined those kinds of things, I felt happy inside that I could not hide the joy I felt and smile at him.
He sees me that I was already there standing. He stands up from where he is seated and approached me delightedly, knowing that I came at his request.
"Come, have a seat," he grabbed my hand as he offers me one of the seats in the dining.
I quickly sat down to the vacant chair he offered to me then grabbed the table napkin to put it into my lap. As I observed the food he serves for me, I felt like we are on a date.
I can tell that he was a good cook, and even the presentation was stunning. I even wish that someday my husband might prepare it for me, but I know that would be impossible! I can see in his eyes how he hated me so much, and I can't do anything about it.
As I remember that night, I felt in deep sorrow again. That I did not realize that sorrow gradually marked on my face as if it was written on purpose to give a hint. When Ethan suddenly notice it and ask me with concern. "Are you okay?"
Ethan's voice was so consoling that I almost take my chance to tell him the truth until someone had come and cleared his throat, "Ahem, ahem...,"
We both turned around. I saw in front of me my husband with his arms crossed as his eyes were glaring as he looked at me. My eyes widened as I watched the impression on his face.
I was suddenly nervous again as if I had committed a great sin. I clenched my hands that were on my lap out of fear. Ethan noticed that I seemed very scared. He moves his right hand under the table and holds mine. I felt the warmth of his hands, and it made me feel relieved.
"Brother, come here, join us," Ethan released his hand holding mine, and stood up. Then he approached his brother and put his hand to the broad shoulder him.
"How was your night?" he asked his brother with a smile.
Leonard was still looking at me with bitterness as he answered his brother. "There is nothing special at all."
Then he approached me, grabbed my hand, and said, "Let's talk in the bedroom."
I haven't even spoken yet, but he pulled me to my seat and took me upstairs. I could see in the eyes of Ethan the suddenness of what his brother had done, but he couldn't do anything.
My husband hurried upstairs as he held my hand so tightly that I was almost writhing in pain, as I said, "Ouch, can you please loosen your grip on my hands? I'm hurting," I looked at him, almost about to cry.
"Sorry," he said as he loosened his grip on my hand. "Come follow me," he added.
To alleviate his anger at me, I just followed him without any question. Then we both entered our room. When we were in the room, he took a brown envelope from his drawer. As I stood waiting for whatever he had to say. He opened the envelope and took out its content. Then he handed me the documents and said, "Here, get this and sign."
I was confused about what he wanted me to sign, so I asked him. "What is it for?"
"You read it so that you will know."
I stretched out an arm to grasp the documents and read them. I was shocked by what was written down in it. I suddenly grew cold. I didn't know how to react. Whether I would cry or lose because of the anger I felt.
He wanted me to sign a contract agreeing to annul our marriage after one year. Then, it will be null and void in return for all the favors as promised to his contract. Now it's pretty clear that he thought that I am after their wealth.
While continuing to read what is on it, I could not stop my tears from shedding. I tremble with anger! If he only knows that I have never been in a relationship before and that he was my first love. But it's for the better that he will not realize it because it will not matter anyway of whatever I may tell him, for his mind and heart were close for my explanation.
I quickly took a ball pen from my luggage and signed the contract as I said to him, "Here I sign it already, and by the way, you don't need to bribe me money and wealth to sign this damn document of yours! I'm easy to talk with, and one more thing. Please put it into mind that not everything in this world you can buy with your goddamn money!
Then I took the documents that promised favor to me. In exchange for my consent to annul our marriage, and tore it in front of my husband!
