Chapter 162: Chapter 162

Rong Zhi extended a foot from the blanket rolled up like a spring roll and kicked him.

Damn man, revealing your true nature.

And the damn man caught her foot in one swift motion and tucked it back under the blanket, instructing Jiang Gujun to keep an eye on her. He took off his jacket and tossed it to the side before heading to the kitchen to prepare medicine.

The kitchen was usually stocked with various traditional Chinese herbs. Bai Su’s technique in selecting herbs had become increasingly skilled; weighing and choosing quantities, he had the herbs simmering on the stove in less than ten minutes.

Decoction takes an hour and a half; he planned to check the laboratory for any fast-acting Western medicine.

As he left the kitchen, he saw Jiang Gujun turning his head to signal him, indicating he should look at the sofa.

He glanced sideways and saw Rong Zhi sitting blankly on the sofa, her usual captivating eyes now with a hint of vulnerability. Those beautiful fox-like eyes were lowered, her long eyelashes casting a light blue shadow underneath her eyes.

Her breath was quiet and tranquil, her entire demeanor less aloof and cold than usual, with a touch more softness.

Seeming to sense his gaze, Rong Zhi slowly turned her head, her normally galling lips gently opening and closing, yet she could not utter a word.

Soft, slightly adorable.

Bai Su’s hand, hanging by his side, clenched for a moment and then relaxed.

A sour feeling filled his heart, as if something was packed inside, a bit swollen.

He walked over in a few steps, bent down, and hooked the boy’s leg with one hand. Still wrapped in the blanket, he lifted the boy in Jiang Gujun’s somewhat startled gaze.

"Good," Bai Su whispered softly in Rong Zhi’s ear, "Let’s go back to the room to sleep, I’ll call you when the medicine is ready."

Rong Zhi was quite obedient at this moment and nodded at his words.

Bai Su couldn’t help but sigh in his heart.

If only she were this soft usually.

Rong Zhi fell asleep shortly after lying on the bed and, when she awoke, Bai Su was at her bedside with a steaming bowl of herbal decoction.

"Drink some porridge first."

There was also a bowl of porridge on the bedside table.

Rong Zhi propped up her forehead with her wrist and accepted the toiletries Bai Su had prepared.

After drinking the porridge, drink the medicine.

After lying a bit longer, she tried to speak, but could only utter a monosyllabic sound for quite a while.

Bai Su’s brow furrowed deeply.

Rong Zhi waved her hand.

And just then, Rong Jiazze returned home.

Hearing from Jiang Gujun that Rong Zhi was ill, she kicked off her shoes and ran into the room, flopping down beside Rong Zhi’s bed, her eyes wide and peach-like, anxiously asking, "Brother, are you feeling better? Is everything okay? Why didn’t you go to the hospital?"

Rong Zhi made a few gestures with her fingers, and Rong Jiazze immediately responded, "Lost your voice? Want me to translate? Okay, okay!"

Rong Jiazze dutifully translated for the two men beside her, "Brother said she wants to go to the laboratory to mix medicine; it’ll be fine soon."

Nodding, Rong Zhi got out of bed, and Bai Su pulled the blanket around her, lifting her horizontally and lowering his gaze, his eyes somewhat serious, "I’ll carry you."

The temperature in the laboratory was as low as ever.

Bai Su didn’t let go but carried her inside, "Point to what you need, and I’ll get it for you."

He shifted his position, letting Rong Zhi wrap her legs around his waist, one hand supporting her butt to keep her from sliding down.

Rong Zhi’s eyebrow arched slightly, shifting uncomfortably, wanting to get down.

Feeling the man’s body tense instantly, Rong Zhi squinted slightly, and when she looked up again, her face was as innocent as ever.

She suddenly smiled, mischievously moved closer to his ear, and blew lightly on the pink ear lobe that was gradually turning red, playfully.

The hand holding her tightened.

Rong Zhi leaned back her head, resuming a detached coldness.

As if the warmth just now was an illusion.

Bai Su ground his back teeth, his gaze heavy as he looked at the boy’s fair and soft face, then abruptly pressed a hand on the back of her head, pulling her toward him—

A slight pain spread across her cheek.

Venting his frustration by nibbling delicately on the boy’s face.

Bai Su couldn’t help but tighten his grip slightly.

He stared at the neat and visible teeth marks on the boy’s left cheek, a hint of satisfaction flickering through his heart.

His gaze grew deeper.

Such a direct stare made it hard for Rong Zhi to ignore.

She turned her head away.

"Little brother, the one who ignites the flames is you, and the one who doesn’t put them out is also you," Bai Su moved forward, his voice lazily dragging, "I feel like I’m the one losing out here."

A "go away" stuck in her throat, unable to come out.

With the medicine ready, hooked up to an IV drip, the medicine’s effect kicked in. Rong Zhi tried to speak and finally managed to emit a few sounds, her voice hoarse beyond belief.

She felt a bit sleepy, and upon looking up, saw the electronic clock in the living room displaying 5:45. So she asked Rong Jiazze to grab her laptop from her room so she could work despite the drowsiness.

Bai Su frowned at her, pursed his lips, "What job is worth working yourself to the bone for, leaving the laptop here, go rest."
