Chapter 54: Chapter 54
The dinner that Alexa had planned was quite luxurious.
Her initial intention was to just take Ray to an ordinary restaurant, but Jane stopped her and even mocked her for being a country bumpkin. Then just make a reservation at an upscale restaurant.
Alexa was quite worried about this. If Ray later asked where she got so much money to come to a restaurant this expensive, who knows what she would have to answer.
Shit! That was all she has to think!
A waiter poured red wine into each of their cups. The atmosphere of the restaurant was Irish pub themed. That may be upper class, but most of the people who come here are mature couples. Almost every table was full of young people dressed in formal attire and the music playing was soft jazz.
Her costume was a bright red dress like chili peppers. She deliberately wore this color dress to look attractive in his eyes.
Red was Ray's favorite color, but he himself was wearing dark blue. Man, he was very handsome, even like a famous actor with a lot of flying experience.
"Nice place," Ray commented, looking around.
Alexa shook her cup. "Yeah, I won tickets to get into this restaurant. You know, we can order almost anything without paying."
This was just an excuse that she could dig up in her head, even though this reason was very implausible.
"Free?" He frowned.
"Would you like to add a bottle of wine?" She asked changing the topic.
"I don't drink much."
"Okay."
"Is your alcohol tolerance high?"
She shook her head. "No, but it's good. It just so happens that this wine is only twenty percent alcohol. Is that alright?"
He smiled. "That's good too."
As long as there was no Fran, it was fine to drink low-alcohol wine. He wouldn't drive, so it was fine if he was a little drunk. The one he need to worry about was Adam. Even though Fran considered him an enemy, Adam often still reported Ray's actions to the bespectacled doctor.
Ray was surprised at first. Was it that in everyone's eyes, he was so immature that he has to be watched?
"Why did you invite me to dinner?" He took a sip of wine with graceful movements, Alexa, who accidentally saw his Adam's apple bobbing up and down, felt uneasy for no reason.
She took a sip before replying, “Just wanted to take you out to eat to say thanks.”
"Thanks for what?"
"You've let me stay in your villa for a month, this is all I can give, it seems so shameless, doesn't it?"
"Alexa, that doesn't count. You forced me to let you pay the rent, which means we're in business." Ray couldn't believe it. "This is all unnecessary."
She smiled faintly in response.
He felt stupid when he responded to this nonsense. Not once or twice had he argued with her about the house rent, but she still insisted on paying or she would leave.
Indeed, she was a grown woman, leaving her out there was no problem. But his main worry was that her ex-lover could come at any time and attack her again. He couldn't let that happen.
He narrowed his eyes. "I think there's something else you want to say."
Her smile bloomed. "Can you guess?"
She didn't usually look beautiful in a dress and make up. Although he liked her simplicity, he also admired her beauty in an evening dress. There was only one thing he could guess. "You ... you accept me?"
She eyebrows rose, looking at him.
But his heart was already pounding. "Really?! Did you accept my love so you brought me to this place?"
Alexa was still smiling. "Why don't we order some food first?"
How could Ray possibly wait, when euphoria was already exploding in his head. He reached out, grabbing her hand on the table.
His gaze was very gentle. "This song is perfect for doing that."
Alexa, "..."
The song the band played on stage was a song full of love. Told the story of how a young man leaves his world behind and chose to pursue a strong woman who has gone far ahead. This woman was very independent and mature, really an added value that men dream of.
When his blue eyes fell on her beautiful face, the lyrics were playing;
'In a red veil you stand in the heat of the desert, I came to look after you, look at me~ accept my simple love~'
Ray suddenly squeezed her hand tighter. "Alexa, do you want to be my lover?"
So, when that song fits perfectly, that meant it was like their story?
Alexa gulped, saw his deep sincerity in his eyes, and immediately found the answer to her own question.
His face was handsome and glistening from the soft light of the restaurant at night. The natural air from the window brushed their hair, but only her bangs fell due to the wind. And his hand gently brushed away the annoying hair.
Oh, Man! It was very romantic.
Her heart trembled slightly at that.
"Alexa, what's your answer?" Ray muttered, rubbing her cheek with his other hand.
The touch was like an electric current. She looked at him confidently. "Mn."
"What?"
"Y-You already know, so stop asking!" Her face turned red and she withdrew her hand.
His small laugh was very crisp and filled the softness of the song which was still humming melodiously.
"Cute."
"What? Who's cute?"
Alexa looked annoyed. If usually Ray was very worried about disturbing her, this time he felt happy seeing her fierce expression.
"But really, you are cute today. So pretty." Ray emphasized the word 'pretty' very cutely.
"So you still want to tease me, Mr. Sanders?"
Ray burst out laughing again. This was also Alexa's habit when upset; he would call him formally. This attitude was something that his heart couldn't tolerate recently. Even if one was careful, one would definitely be able to see the red hue in her ears.
When his laughter stopped, he shot her a teasing look, slightly stroking her fingers. "I love you."
The words just fell, like unpredictable raindrops. And she choked when she was drinking.
"Oops!"
Ray was a little sorry, took his clean handkerchief and stood up to help her.
"I ordered this." He took water from a passing waiter's tray and gave it to her. "Drink it."
As she drank it, she noticed him wiping the wine that had spilled on her dress. Looked unhappy.
She thought he was upset because she was so embarrassing, so she said, "I can clean it myself."
"Shut up, don't move," Ray said, his words not sharp or commanding, but giving the impression that he didn't want to be challenged. "It will stain if you don't wash it soon."
While he was busy drying up the spilled wine again and again, her feelings stirred strongly. As if the tide was rising high against a river bank, she felt a strong blow due to various kinds of mixed feelings.
She wasn't very clear about what she was feeling; between hate, disgust, heat, shame and overflowing, all in one.
Even though his hands didn't directly touch her thigh, she still felt her skin blister from burning. She fidgeted a few times and he held her gently a few times as well.
Because of this unexpected situation, she felt thirsty, and poured out a cup full of wine carelessly.
She drank several glasses.
Only then did her head start to cool down. Everything she saw was moving irregularly, but it all made her comfortable.
"Alexa?"
She heard her name being called as a wavy note entered her ear.
"Hey? You drank it all and ... got drunk?"
Before hiccuping loudly, she answered, "I'm not drunk."
Ray, "..."
Should he believe it?
Before he could process the situation, his shoulders swayed from the additional weight. Then slowly an increasingly heavier burden continued to fall on him.
And Alexa just fainted.
... to be continued ...
