Chapter 44: Chapter 44

At City Hospital, Ray felt that it wasn't enough just to do a CT scan, he felt he had to treat his seriously injured ear!

How come?

He went to the hospital with Fran that afternoon and was nagged by him to death along the way. Fran continued to misunderstand the scene he saw in Ray's room, only after Ray explained what was really difficult, Fran finally understood.

In this way, Ray felt sorry for whoever becomes Fran's wife, luckily Fran also doesn't plan to get married in the near future. Even though Ray was ready to give advice to his future wife before she ran away on the first night.

It's funny that Fran almost all the time urges him to get married, but he ignored the matter himself.

Ray didn't want to get involved in Fran's love story. He just thought, someone who has a high temper, and is grumpy, usually because that person is lonely and lacks affection. Maybe Fran did too.

Thinking about it again, made him shake his head worriedly.

Fran suddenly said in work mode, "There's nothing serious. To compact the bone, I will put a cast on it. You can only open it when I allow it."

"How long?"

"Two to three months until complete recovery," Fran said indifferently.

"You are crazy!" Ray cursed. "I didn't wash that long?"

Fran's gaze turned to him as if what he saw was a clown out of costume. "What's the point of a check-up? You have to come here twice a week for maintenance."

Ray sighed in exasperation.

As his best friend and personal doctor, he knows what Fran's character is like. There wasn't enough time for Fran to lecture him. It's true that Fran is almost as talkative as Samuel, but Samuel still has a tolerant attitude and can still be ignored. Meanwhile, Fran, once Ray gets cold feet, he will continue to chase no matter how the world turns upside down.

"Can I work?" Ray asked with his last breath.

Fran's gaze was very reproachful. "What do you call work? Stopping by the nightclub checking out the employees while drinking?"

If Ray believes in magical powers, he believes Fran has a third eye everywhere.

His activities at work were not many; just going to the office to vent about work on Samuel, to some of his nightclubs to check if the place is still standing, sometimes stopping for a drink, sometimes just at home looking at stock charts and thinking about investments here and there.

If you think about it, he doesn't have much to do because he only needs to reap the fruits of his business.

Fran wrote something down on paper. "I'm suggesting you stop drinking, not cut back. Don't argue with that one."

Ray was speechless.

"Have you been feeling uncomfortable lately?" Fran asked seriously.

"Nothing, everything is normal."

With their long-standing friendship, Fran knows when Ray is not honest. Actually, his main problem lately was his poor health. The reason wasn't because he had fallen out of love; but that was also one of the factors that causes his immune system to be unstable.

And there seemed to be something else too.

Fran knew how loud he was lecturing Ray, only he didn't do this just to corner him. For almost the past five years, Fran was the only doctor who could treat Ray. Even though Ray is actually kind, many doctors couldn't communicate with him as well as Fran, just because Ray didn't seem to care about them.

Before Ray's health reached this stage, he was a heavy cigarette addict. Too often in a week he could drink liquor with colleagues four to five times a week. Prolonged insomnia and poor diet.

Now not only has he become vulnerable, after the disaster he experienced five years ago, things have become very bad.

Ray asked, "Is everything finished?"

Fran, "Not yet."

"Surgeons should be so busy. It's a pity that those of you who are your patients have to queue for surgery because you're busy with one VIP patient. I feel a little guilty."

Fran responded with nonsense, "Then you have to do surgery on them."

"That's fine," Ray pretended to agree. "I should have become a doctor first."

"With your personality, you won't last for half a year."

"What's wrong with my personality?"

"You're only good with women." Fran whispered it seriously, then indifferently opened his work documents.

Ray ignored the sarcasm and complained again. "Fran, look, you're busy. Me here will waste a lot of your time. I'll go now."

"You dare to go?"

Actually, Ray dared to go. Suddenly he remembered the last time he did the same thing, he got a psychological terror. Fran, who was supposed to be a busy person, visited his house and insisted on staying overnight. Everyone didn't dare to chase him away, even if Ray chased him away, it didn't work either.

It was ridiculous that Fran asked Ray's family for help and everyone works together to help Fran with that.

This man is terrifying with his great ambitions.

"Besides, have you forgotten that I'm not a surgeon anymore? I'm just an attending doctor. I have a lot of free time to take care of you." Fran said.

Ray didn't know that at all!!!

"Why did you send her away?" Fran asked when Ray had lost his way and sat down obediently.

"I can't help it if I have you around. Your counseling is so special that one day isn't even enough."

It was a fitting innuendo, but Fran was unfazed.

He spun the hanging wheels of his chair several times, back and forth aimlessly.

"Are you okay with women even if they are widows?" Fran's big, green eyes looked at him seriously.

Ray sighed. "All women are worthy of respect."

There was a long pause which made the atmosphere a bit stiff. The pen in Fran's hand tapped the table repeatedly, as if its owner was in deep and complicated thought. But whatever he thought was usually in a deep boil.

Finally he asked, "Do you think she's a good woman?"

The woman who was in the topic of two adult men had just arrived at an open restaurant. In a large umbrella under a jacaranda tree, a man had already arrived and was waiting.

Alexa immediately put the money bag away without further greeting.

The man looked up. "You're really rich!"

Alexa's gaze didn't blink at the man's gray eyes and felt that the color suited him better than blue. She didn't bother sitting down and said coldly, "That includes the hospital fees. After this, don't contact me again. We're strangers."

"Wait, Lexa!" stopped the man.

"What is it again, Bryan?!"

Bryan Scotland, her ex, with a serious battered face, held her hand with a desperate face. Seeing that she didn't like it, he understandably let her go. "Lexa, I know you really hate me because of problems in the past, but I have changed. You can see it."

"I'm sorry, but our relationship this time is just business partners." She didn't look at him. "After the business is over, there is only separation."

Seeing Bryan not speaking, she continued, "The problems of the past have nothing to do with the future. We should forget them."

Bryan didn't care about that nonsense. "I still love you, Lexa. We are not teenagers anymore, we can start seriously. In the past, because of a moment's lust, I ignored you and chose another woman. But in my heart, I still love you."

Truly a soap opera drama.

If this were the Alexa of the past, she would have immediately melted and forgiven him. Now, she couldn't be as naive as in the past, with much experience and suffering, she knew much more about what her life required.

And she doesn't need a bastard like Bryan anymore!

"I can't," she said firmly. "Goodbye."

But her wrist was grabbed again, this time with great force and it was difficult to release. Bryan said stubbornly, "Come on, Lexa, what's holding you back? You don't have anyone in your life now not even your parents! You're pregnant out of wedlock with an unknown man and running around with rich men! You don't need to be sanctimonious anymore!"

Alexa panicked. "Let go of me, Bryan! You're hurting me!"

"Why?" Bryan laughed loudly, pulling even harder. "Is everything I said true? You suddenly asked me to beat up that rich man yesterday because you wanted to attract his sympathy and climb into his bed, right? But, Lexa, believe me, a man like that won't be able to satisfy you. Rich people's penises are usually lethargic!"

What crazy thing is this sick man saying?

Bryan leaned his face into Alexa's neck, sniffing her like a hungry animal. "Lexa, we are both adults now. Don't be so naive. I can satisfy you, okay."

It's disgusting.

"Ah. Let me go! Let me ... uh."

She pulled herself away, but his strength was tight, she was a thin woman and she was alone. She knew she couldn't fight him.

Now she was very scared.
