Chapter 15: Chapter 15

"How long have you known Ray?"

Kenric's eyebrows dipped sharply, the glasses perched on his nose pushed up more comfortably. He did not immediately answer his wife's question, instead he continued to look at his tablet's work graph regularly.

A sudden hug around his stomach prevented him from resisting.

"I met him two years ago, we met in Canada. What's wrong?" Kenric finally put his tablet on the table and got back under the covers, trapped his wife's small shoulders. "You're usually not interested in my colleagues."

"It's about Alexa."

The lace of Jane's thin nightgown made his naked body begin to stiffen in amusement. Their sex was over after they swam together this afternoon, they had made a full pool of dirty water. He stepped back for safety.

Jane turned to face him. "Would you believe it if I said Ray was Fillo's biological father?"

“Fillo?

"Alexa's son."

Kenric frowned and little shocked. "Is that true?"

"It's a long story," she glumly said. "What's certain is that Ray continues to pretend he doesn't know Alexa. Isn't he such a jerk?"

His eyebrows rose. "She didn't get the wrong person?"

"What do you mean?"

"As far as I know, Ray already has a fiancée and her name is Hailey. I don't think he is bad either, he's not a sex crazed guy."

"When I introduced Alexa to him, he was single."

Jane started to get a little annoyed when discussing about Ray. At first she felt it was normal for him to be discussed, but this time she couldn't stay calm anymore.

She noticed Kenric didn't touch her shoulder again for no apparent reason and moved to sit on his thigh. Sighed.

"I've known him since I was in college, I'm a regular at his nightclub so we've met a few times. We're not as close as close friends, but—"

"Wait a minute, are we talking about the same Ray? Ray Sanders?" Kenric interrupted her quickly.

This time it was her turn to raise her eyebrows. She looked at her husband's old facial features which looked much younger than his actual age. The short hair on his chin had just been shaved this morning, making him great like a top film artist.

Then she asked, "Yeah, he is. Why do you ask that?"

"I only introduced you to him a few weeks before the wedding and didn't he know you at that time?"

"..."

"So you've known him for a long time before that?"

"Well. I've known him for a long time, but I haven't told you." Jane said. "But right now that's not the problem here."

It was as if a memory rushed into her head at that moment. She recalled a memory where they met at a businessmen's party held on an island owned by one of Kenric's clients. She was introduced to Ray, but she almost forgot that at that time Ray looked like he had just met her.

She thought it was just to keep Klaus from getting offended, but if you think about it now, it seems quite odd.

Maybe this is what her friend meant by odd.

Is it true that Ray doesn't remember her either? How ridiculuous. Looks like she really should make an appointment with Ray to clarify this.

"Don't frown." Kenric stretched the skin between her eyebrows, looking at her with a straight face. "Let Alexa's love affairs be her own business, don't interfere too deeply."

Jane relaxed her body, leaning against Kenric's chest while hugging his neck. "I was just thinking, is it possible there are two Ray Sanders?"

There was no definite answer from Kenric when she asked that question. Because she was a curious person, she finally couldn't stop thinking about Ray; either there are two of Ray, or Ray has an older brother who looks like him. But, as far as she knows, Ray only has one older sister.

"Ah, I'm going crazy!" she complained.

"You've been crazy since you were a kid," quipped the woman who was currently one of the reasons why she couldn't sleep because of Ray.

But it seemed that Alexa's appearance is worse than Jane herself.

"Why are your lips so pale? You should wear lipstick." Jane looked at her best friend as if she were an alien.

Alexa answered with two finger massages on the bridge of her nose.

"What's wrong this time? Why do you want to meet me?" asked Jane.

Suddenly in the morning, Alexa asked her to meet because she said she wanted to confide in her. Coincidentally, there was something Jane wanted to say too. When she saw how her friend was in her current condition, perhaps she would have to swallow back whatever it was she wanted to talk about.

Alexa's face looked pale and withered, like paper; like she was already wet and splashed in the mud then dry in the sun.

"Fillo calls that jerk, daddy."

That jerk?

Oh. Ray.

It took Jane a long time to be surprised. "What? What the fuck do you mean?"

"It means what I said!" Alexa seemed to pretend to be calm at first, until finally she grabbed her hair in frustration. "Oh my God! No, no. It shouldn't be like this. What should I do, Jane? How could this develop like this? What did I do wrong, huh?"

"Ok. Calm down. Tell me what happened first. How did Fillo and him meet? When did it happen?"

"Yesterday."

Then Alexa told everything that happened yesterday, about how Fillo got lost and was found by Ray by accident. Then Ray somehow wanted to follow her and invite her to eat, which she couldn't refuse because after all he had found Fillo for her.

She also added that Fillo seemed to really like Ray.

Jane sighed. "Is this a child's instinct towards his own father?"

Alexa didn't like the implications of Jane's words and she became gloomy. "What should I do, Jane? Now he knows my house, he even promised Fillo that he would come to invite him to play. What tricks is he trying to get me into trouble huh."

Hearing this, Jane remembered what she discussed with Kenric last night. Unfortunately she still didn't get an answer about whether Ray had forgotten about him too.

And Kenric warned her not to interfere too deeply in Alexa's problems again.

"Can you help me get Ray to break up with his girlfriend?"

Jane still hadn't digested all of this, she was confused. "Huh?"

"I want to be his girlfriend."

"Woah, wait, Lexa. What do you mean by that? You wanna be his girlfriend?"

These passionate words were not the definition of falling in love, but rather burning revenge. Actually, there is no instant way to make a couple who have been in a relationship for a long time just break up. But this time, accompanied by determination, Alexa felt confident and trusted.

She wanted to be Ray's lover, destroy him from the inside, skin him alive. No. She just wanted all of this to work out quickly, so she could quickly make Fillo forget about Ray.

"I'm starting to worry. You're not used to playing with fire, Lexa."

"It's precisely because I know you're used to playing with men that I wanted to ask you for help."

That reason sounds terrible. Does she really think Jane is such that bad? Why didn't she know about it?

What is certain is that if you play with fire, even if it is small, you can still get burned by the heat. Especially if the fire is doused with gasoline.

It could really eat away at her soul.

"Ok, better make a plan first." Jane relented.

Alexa took a deep breath to reassure her heart. She had to remember how happy Fillo's innocent face was when he called Ray, daddy. This really doesn't make sense. Fillo, who is usually very quiet and afraid of other people, why is he too clingy to Ray?

When Fillo went missing yesterday, what had he and Ray done together in that short time?

Is this like what Jane said about a child's instinct towards their own father?

She was nervous just think about it.

She had to act quickly.

"No need. There's no plan whatsoever. You just have to help me break them up in a cruel way, I'll take care of the rest."

... to be continued ...
