Chapter 92: Chapter 92

That day, Sebastian did not come back home, and neither did he call Carol to inform her that he was not coming back home. When she called him to find out about his whereabouts and if he had any plans of coming back home, he did not take the call, and it went straight to voicemail. At first, she had been so scared that something might have happened to him, considering all that had been happening lately, but then, when she had gone downstairs to ask the drivers and security people if he had said anything about being late, they had given her the number of his new bodyguard so that she could call him. Carol supposed that she was overreacting a little, but then, she had just buried her very lively and vivacious younger sister to murder, which had still not been solved, so she guessed she was entitled to a little overreaction.

Once she reached the man on the phone, he assured her that Sebastian was fine and was in a meeting, after which he would visit Jessica before coming back. She had been relieved and had asked the man to inform Sebastian that she had called and that he should return her call as soon as he was free. By the time it was past eleven in the night and he was not yet back, neither had he returned her calls, Carol knew that he had no plans of coming back that night. For some reason, she found it difficult to sleep, but she only had herself to blame for letting her stupid heart fall in love so much with Sebastian that she was finding it difficult to sleep just because he did not come home.

Since they came back from the vacation a month ago, they had not had sex even once, and it was beginning to really grate on her nerves. All Sebastian seemed to want to do nowadays was to visit and sit with Jessica after work. It did not matter to him that she could not even talk to him or do anything other than lay there and let the machines breathe for her. No, he did not care at all. He would rather stay with Jessica who could not speak at the moment than come back home and make love to Carol who was desperately craving his touch. Carol could not rightly blame him though, considering that he had told her right from the start that this was strictly business to him. She could not say that she had not known that he was in love with another woman.

No, she had known that very well but had allowed herself to still fall for him, thinking he would change or something, and now the woman was here and it was crystal clear that he was still so in love with her. As much as she did not want to, Carol was beginning to resent the poor woman. If Jessica wielded this much power over Sebastian when she was practically an invalid, then Carol wondered what would happen when she was out of her coma and could do things for herself. Sebastian would probably call off the contract just so he could be with his beloved Jessica. This thought was not in the least bit comforting and caused her to scowl.

At half-past twelve, she was still not asleep. She kept on torturing herself with thoughts of why on earth Sebastian would choose to sleep over at an uncomfortable hospital than come home to sleep in his very comfortable bed. All of a sudden, her phone began to ring where she had kept it on the nightstand. Carol dove for it, thinking that it was Sebastian who was finally returning her call, nearly injuring herself in the process. She shook her head at how sappy she was being. It was not Sebastian at all. Instead, it was Melissa. Carol hissed aloud before answering the call, barely able to contain her anger and disgust. This girl could be so annoying sometimes. Why the hell would she be calling at this ungodly hour?

"Melissa, do you know what the goddamn time is? Why are you calling me by this time of the night?" Carol hissed into the phone.

"Calm your titties, girlie. You don't even sound like you were asleep. Why are you so grumpy? Not getting enough sex?"

Carol shook her head, but all of a sudden, she was no longer so angry. "Why are you calling me by this time?"

"Because I wanted to let you know that I'm in your fucking town, baby. We're going to paint the town red."

"So fast? I didn't think you will be here yet."

"Why, do you have anything planned down?" Melissa asked, knowing fully well that Carol had nothing planned.

"Well no."

"Good. I thought as much. Anyway, I think we should do an early lunch tomorrow. I really need someone to gossip with. Sounds good to you?"

It sounded good to Carol, who missed her female friends, although she had not really had very close ones. It had been a really long time since she sat down with a female and just gossiped. Besides, she needed someone to talk to, someone who did not really know her. Melissa would have to do.

"Yeah. That sounds good to me. Where do we meet?" She asked.

"I'll pick you up. There's this sweet car I rented on my arrival. I need to flex it a little. Just send me your address and I'll pick you up. is that fine by you?"

"Sure it is. I'll send you my address shortly." Carol said. True to her word, she sent her address to Melissa immediately they ended the call. It was better she went out and had fun instead of just sitting in the house thinking about Sebastian and Jessica and what she would do about her stupid, unwanted feelings for Sebastian and her jealousy towards Jessica. Maybe she should get a job, no matter how little ... that was if Sebastian would let her. She could understand his concern though. She was now grateful for the presence of the ever-watchful bodyguards who were discreet enough to keep themselves mostly hidden each time she went out. She just needed to go out often.

Who knows, she could even meet another guy whom she could fall in love with and maybe forget Sebastian. Of course, she would not do that while married, but at least, it was better she began to entertain the thought of meeting someone else. Now that she knew what it was like to be with someone ... really be with them, she knew that she did not want to spend the rest of her life alone. In fact, she wanted to find love as soon as possible. It was such a nice feeling ... when reciprocated, that is.

It was these things and many more that she needed to discuss with Melissa and get another girl's take on them ... not that Melissa looked like someone who could offer solid advice. However, half loaf was better than none, so she would make do with what she had. With this thought on her mind, she checked the time to see that it was already a few minutes past one in the morning. It was high time she got some sleep. She closed her eyes, and within minutes this time, she was able to drift off to sleep.
