Chapter 60: Chapter 60

Carol watched Sebastian as he got his gear for diving together. He seemed really excited to go on this expedition and she was sure that she was being a spoilsport, but she just could not help herself and she was scared of the ocean. Supposing it was something that she had thought of or considered doing before now, it would have been a different situation.

“You seem to like diving a lot.” She commented as he zipped up his bag and moved to another part of the suite to pick something else.

“I sure do. I’ve been doing it since I was eleven. Anytime I go on vacation to places like this, I always make sure to take the opportunity to go diving. You can say that I’m a pro at it, but it’s okay if you’re not into it. In my experience, I’ve learned that it is better not to force someone to want to like it, so you can just come and watch, or you can sun on the beach if you want. I just don’t want you to be bored while I’m up and about enjoying myself.”

“Awww. That’s so thoughtful and sweet of you.” Carol gushed, feeling immensely flattered.

“Yeah. It would not go down well with my uncle at all. Just this morning, he was complaining about how I left you to come down to breakfast by yourself and how I wasn’t being caring enough.” Sebastian informed her, rolling his eyes.

“Oh. That’s silly. I’ll come and watch you go into the water and then I’ll sun on the beach.”

“Okay. No problem, but I hope you’ll not just chicken out of doing every fun activity that one can carry out here. That’ll be no fun at all.”

“Well, we’ll see how it goes.”

They left the resort and were halfway to where Sebastian was going to scuba dive when Carol realized that she forgot her sunscreen at the hotel, so she asked Sebastian to continue going and that she would meet up with him after getting it. She hurried back to the hotel, got her sunscreen, and hurried back to find some young and beautiful ladies gathered around Sebastian and giggling irritatingly at every word he said.

There were three of them, each one vying for his attention. Two seemed to be American while one was local.

“I see you all the time in magazines. I never thought that I’ll see you in real life too.” The blonde among them said, leaning closer to Sebastian than was necessary. Carol stood there uncertainly, for some reason, not liking what she was seeing one bit. Sebastian seemed to be enjoying their company and soon launched an explanation about scuba diving and how enjoyable and rewarding it was.

“I’ve always wanted to go scuba diving, but I’ve always been afraid of the water… until now. Your explanation has only made me more interested. Would you teach me how to do it?” Blondie asked, batting her fake lashes at him.

Sebastian gave a short laugh. “I’m sure there are certified instructors for that.”

“But I want you,” Blondie whined, pouting her lips and linking her arm with his, her full silicone breasts pressing against his arm. She was obviously making her territory, and the other girls understood immediately. They waved to her and walked away, leaving her with Sebastian, who still had not noticed Carol standing nearby and watching this exchange.

“Hey, listen. I really have to go now, Abby.”

“It’s Gabby, actually.”

“Yeah. Right. Sorry, Gabby. I need to go.”

“Oh, common. Don’t be like that. I really want you to teach me this stuff. I know that I’ll be safe with you.” She whined, pressing her breast closer against his arm. Carol watched the girl with envy. This was something like what she was supposed to do. You see someone you like, you go after them, and if they reject you, so be it, but she could never summon the nerve or courage to do something like that. At this point, Carol cleared her throat and they both turned to see her standing there.

“Hey, Carol. I was beginning to wonder if you would spend the whole day away.” Sebastian said, his features showing how relieved he was. Clearly, he had not wanted the girl’s attention but was only being polite. What if that was her fate? She would die of shame. She just knew it.

“Well, seeing as how you’ve been preoccupied, I don’t think you would have noticed,” Carol said spitefully, not at all pleased when she saw how beautiful this girl who was throwing herself all over him was. The girl could easily pass for a model, that is if she was not already one.

“Who is this?” The girl asked, still clinging tightly to Sebastian’s arm as though her life depended on it. Carol fought the insane urge to march over to them, take her hand, and fling it as far away from Sebastian as possible.

“This is Carol. We’re married. Carol, meet um… uh.” He stammered, having forgotten the girl’s name again. Carol resisted the urge to burst out laughing at the angry look that crossed the girl’s face.

“Gabby. Oh, yeah. The wife…” Gabby said mockingly, looking Carol up and down, her expression showing that she did not particularly like what she saw. Carol’s cheeks flamed in embarrassment, but she refused to look away. Reluctantly, Gabby let go of Sebastian’s arm and flounced away, her head held high.

“Got the sunscreen?” Sebastian asked her.

“Well, it was what I went to get in the first place, wasn’t it? It would be really stupid of me to come back without it, don’t you think?” Carol asked angrily, walking away from him briskly and leaving him no choice but to stride fast to catch up with her.

“Hey! What’s wrong? What have I done now?”

“What have you done now? Are you being serious right now?”

“Is it because of Abby or whatever her name is?”

“Yes, of course, it is. How do you think it makes me look if you’re busy running after everything that has a vagina? It makes me look stupid, and the last thing I like to look like is stupid.” Carol spat hotly.

“Excuse me? When have you ever seen me running after everything that has a vagina, as you so crudely put it? I don’t understand what you’re so angry about. I told her we are married for chrissakes. What else do you expect me to have done? I didn’t invite her over, you know. She was the one who walked up to me by herself.”

“I know. All I’m trying to say is that it would not look good if your uncle sees you flirting with another woman when I’m in the same place. Wouldn't you feel embarrassed if I was throwing myself over a bunch of guys, or entertaining a guy who was flirting with me? You were the one who asked me to act this role, after all, so please try, and stick to the script too and stop making me look like a bloody fool. I’m going to sun on the beach.” Carol said, walking away and leaving him gaping after her in surprise, wondering what was wrong with her and why on earth she seemed so offended.
