Chapter 105: Chapter 105

"I was the one who kidnapped and tortured Jessica," Charlotte said, watching him closely and mischievously to see his reaction. He looked shell-shocked at first and then she saw doubt and pity creep into his eyes. He thought that she was crazy. Fuck him! She did not need his pity!

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me. I kidnapped and tortured Jessica, after which I lied to her that you were the one who asked me to do it and she, in turn, told Sebastian about it."

"Charlotte, why would you do that to poor Jessica?" Mr. James asked, beginning to realize just how much of a maniac this person was. It did not matter that she was related to him. She was a stranger and an evil one at that.

"Why do you think? To get revenge against you, of course, and I can see that it's working very well. To think that Sebastian caused you to have the heart attack that worsened your condition is really the best thing to happen to me in a long while. Oh, don't look so surprised. Carol is such a wealth of information. Do tell me, what was Sebastian telling you that caused you to have the heart attack? He was telling you that he knew that you were the one behind what happened to Jessica, not so? What wouldn't I have given to see your face!" Charlotte exclaimed, clapping excitedly and laughing maniacally, although she made sure to keep her voice low.

"So why are you telling me all this?"

"It's because I wanted to see that look of pain on your old ugly face, and my, it is indeed a fulfilling look. Do you know how long I have waited to hurt you back in the same way you hurt my mother?"

"I did not hurt your mother. I have told you this several times. She was the one who tricked me by deliberately getting pregnant, although what her motive was is what I do not know to date." Mr. James defended himself, not liking the way he was feeling at all. He was feeling weak, but this particular weakness was different from the way he usually felt. Maybe it was the shock of finding out exactly how crazy this girl was and the fear that he was all alone with her and was the weakest he had ever been in his life, so he could not do anything to protect himself, and something told him that he needed to be protected from her. Damn! If only he hadn't sent Carol on another errand that he did not need her to run just because he had thought that he was doing the right thing by telling Charlotte the truth. He now knew that some things were better left unsaid, but there was no way that he would have known all these.

"Do you know what I'm going to do after now? I'm going to have that gullible Carol take me to the hospital in Sacramento where Jessica is being taken care of and I'm going to finish what I started. Only then would I really be at peace. I would have taken Carol out too in the end, along with Sebastian, but since you will not be there to see it, I guess there is no point in doing all that."

"You've already hurt me enough. Can you please just leave these innocent people alone?" Mr. James asked, shaking his head a little to try and clear it. Along with the weakness, he was beginning to feel somewhat confused and it was beginning to become a little difficult for him to keep track of the conversation they were having.

"Don't worry about it at all. As I said, I'm going to leave them all alone, including your beloved wife, except for Jessica, of course. I can't have her walking around and spilling my dirty secret to anyone who cares to listen now, can I?"

"I'll gladly take the blame for everything and let people believe that I was behind everything, just as you've made Sebastian believe. Just please leave the poor girl alone. She's suffered enough."

"Ah, but there's a problem with that solution, and that problem is that she knows my face almost as well as I know my face and knows that I tortured her, so I'll surely be an accomplice ... oh, I forgot. That is nearly not as bad as the fact that she will know that I also killed Victoria, or at least, ordered people to do it. No, no, your theory will not work at all. Thanks, but no thanks. I'll stick to my initial plan ... or lack of it." Charlotte said, chuckling in amusement as she finished. She knew that she was talking too much, but she was so excited. Mr. James was already reacting to the drugs that she had slipped in his drink earlier, right under his nose. In a few minutes, he would be disoriented enough to loosen his guard and tell her where the will was, and she could get it and destroy it.

"Who's Victoria?" He asked.

"Carol's sister, of course."

"What has she got to do with any of this? Heard she's dead. Whoever will do such a thing to such a vibrant girl?" He asked, his words slurring a little. He looked confused as hell too.

"Where did you keep your will, Mr. James?" Charlotte asked urgently. It seemed the drug was working way faster than she had anticipated. Of course, he was already using so many drugs and he was very weak. What had she been thinking? Cursing her stupidity, Charlotte slapped his face hard when he deigned to answer her the first time.

"Ouch, that hurt! Who are you?" He asked finally, peering at her through hazy eyes that were pain ravaged.

"Where did you keep your will? You said it is in your room. Where in your room is it?" Charlotte asked again, her patience wearing thin.

"My will? What will?" was the confused question he asked in response to her question. Charlotte closed her eyes as anger threatened to overwhelm her, and would have counted to ten to calm herself down, except that there was no time to do that. Instead, she shook him roughly, quickly becoming irritated at the tears of pain that seeped out through the corner of his eyes at her rough handling.

"You're hurting me. Who are you and why are you hurting me? Where's my wife? I want my wife."

"Listen to me, you old fool. I need to know where you kept your will. Where the fuck is it?" Charlotte asked, getting in his face. There was no time again, and what she was doing was highly dangerous, considering that the door was not locked and Carol or any of the maids could come in at any time, but she was desperate. This man would slip into unconsciousness any time from now and she had to know where the will was before then.

"It's in the last drawer on the table in my room." He said finally, his eyes clearing a little. "I pray God forgives you, Charlotte." He said.

"I don't need your fucking prayer. Now, where is your goddamn room?' Charlotte spat, still leaning over him threateningly, but he did not answer, neither could he. His eyes were already glazing over and she knew that he would soon become unconscious and be dead within six hours or less if no one noticed that he wasn't just sleeping, something that she hoped was going to be the case. She needed to find that will fast before Carol got back and then they could go over to the hospital to 'check on' Jessica.

"What do you think you're doing?" A feminine voice asked, startling Charlotte so much that she jumped, inadvertently upending the bedside lamp that was on the table close to the bed, so that it shattered, spreading glass fragments all over the room.
