Chapter 103: Chapter 103

There was a tense silence in the room for some more minutes as the man and lady stared at each other. Charlotte stared at him without saying anything, not that there was anything that she could have said. It wasn't every day that she was at a loss for words. Mr. James stared back at her, waiting her out, until she finally became uncomfortable with the silence and the staring competition, and just had to say something ... anything.

"How do you know who I am?" She asked him finally, her voice hard. If he thought that he could outsmart her, then he had better think again. She had come here on a mission, and she must fulfill it before she left.

"What are you doing here?" He asked in turn, annoying her greatly.

"No, no. We're not going to do that. That is not how this is going to play out at all. I'll tell you how it's going to play out, though. I'll ask the questions, and you'll answer them. Got that?"

"If you say so. Can you please stop being so loud, though? I'm getting a severe headache from all the yelling you're doing." Mr. James pleaded, coming back to sit on the chair that he had vacated some minutes ago.

"I'll do whatever the fuck I please, and believe me, a headache is going to be the least of your worries very soon."

"So I take it that you want to know why I abandoned you and your mother?" Mr. James asked.

"I don't give a flying fuck about any of all that bullshit, or at least, it can wait. What I need to know are the plans that you have for me and my brother after you are gone."

"Plans? What do you mean by plans?"

"You bastard! Do you think I don't know what you did? I know that you don't want my brother and me... your rightful heirs to get anything after your death, or at least get mere peanuts."

"Is that why you're here, Charlotte? To fight for my property? I thought that you were here to make peace at last." Mr. James said, his tone reeking of disappointment.

"Peace? Peace with who? You? I'll never do that, even if someone held a gun to my head. You're dead to me, but I'll get what is rightfully mine, whether you like it or not." Charlotte spat angrily, causing Mr. James to wince. He was already getting very tired.

"I told you to stop yelling. The headache is getting worse. Help me get to the bed so I can lie down. I'm too tired to sit." He told her. Charlotte glared at him, not moving an inch.

"You'll sit there and you'll answer all the questions I have. I want to know about the will. Do I and my brother have anything?"

"Please lower your voice. No one should hear about any of this. You and your brother will be settled outside the will. My wife can't know about it."

"My wife can't know about it," Charlotte repeated mockingly, sneering at him. It was because of this same wife that you abandoned us, wasn't it?"

"I never abandoned you guys..."

"Bloody liar! Don't lie to me! My mom told me all about it. Do you think I cannot remember that horrible day? The day you paid my mom off? I was there and I remember every single moment of it. I remember how my mom lay awake crying every night after that for weeks. Do you know what that does to a girl? It tears her apart, that's what."

"I'm sorry that you had to go through all of that, but I swear, it wasn't my wish for you to. My hands were tied." Mr. James said, sounding sincere, but Charlotte was not about to believe such a man.

"Look, like I said, all that is not why I'm here. I'm here because of the will. How much percentage of your property is my brother and I going to get?"

"Charlotte..."

"In fact, I want to see the will."

"I don't have it here." Mr. James protested, but she could see that he was lying. Charlotte was a good judge of character, so she easily knew when a person was lying. Her brother took after him in that aspect, in that it was easy to know when they were lying, which was why she was perplexed when he claimed that he did not intentionally abandon them.

"Don't lie to me." She warned in a chilling tone, deciding that she had been nice enough. "It seems that you do not get the gravity of the situation here. I can snuff the life out of you in a bit if I wanted to, and trust me, I would very much want to if you keep being difficult."

"It's in my old room. I asked to be moved here because I like the view and did not want my wife to have to change rooms because of me..."

"You're trying to stall so that Carol can come to save you, aren't you? Look, I just want to know something. Am I included in the will?" Charlotte asked, getting increasingly agitated. They were getting nowhere and time was going, all because of this stubborn old goat. If only she could get her hands on the will and destroy it, then she would be able to come and fight for her inheritance after he died, which was going to be real soon.

"No, you're not. Neither you nor your brother is, as I said before. However, I have made provisions for substantial sums to be given to you both as your inheritance, even though I'm not required to, considering that I already gave your inheritance to your mother. Charles is doing well for himself, but I cannot say the same about you."

"What do you mean by that? Have you been spying on us?" Charlotte asked. They would talk about the inheritance he said he gave to her mother later.

"No, although I would admit that I've been in touch with your brother. I reached out to him after your mom died, just as I reached out to you. We've been cool since then."

"Are you fucking kidding me? You've been talking to Charles? That fucking traitor!"

"He listened to me, Charlotte. He listened to me and I told him everything. I told him the whole truth. If only you would listen too. He sends me videos of you and him all the time. That's how I know you. I saw you when I was on vacation in the Maldives but was too scared to reach out because I knew that you wouldn't want that. When I saw you today, I thought that maybe you heard that I was dying and have finally come to see me, but I guess I was wrong."

"Charles has been talking to you this whole time, and has been lying to me? He hardly even talks to me anymore. I hate you, you know that? I hate you and wish you would die as slowly and painfully as possible ... more slowly and painfully than you're currently doing right now. You took everything from me. You took my childhood, my mom, my brother, and now, you want to take my inheritance too?" Charlotte spat, ignoring the bit about the vacation in the Maldives.

"I'm not taking anything from you, Charlotte. I've left a billion dollars to you and your brother, along with some properties. No one, except the person who is handling my estate, knows about it."

Charlotte's heart began to quicken at this news. He was leaving her and her brother a billion dollars? That was a shit ton of money and far more than she had expected. This man was stinkingly rich, then. However, quick on the heels of this elation came greed. If he was leaving a billion dollars to her and her brother, only God knew how much he would be giving out to that Sebastian, or even worse, the bitch he called his wife. Money that should be rightfully hers. She must find that will, and destroy it before Carol got back, she knew.
