Chapter 5: Chapter 5
The she-devil
"Phew! It was only but a dream".
I buffet out a relieved breath, holding a hand to my chest_ minus the fact it was only but a dream, it felt so real, I cannot even imagine losing the only family I had, hence I retired back to bed for the second time.
The following morning, I got up from bed just to notice the big sign in my room, which reads "happy birthday Jackie"
I know you must be wondering who Jackie is? Well, Jackie is my real name, the name I was birthed with but as a result of what happened Aunt decided to change my name from "Jackie reeds to Karol Fisher". The fake name I bear to keep my enemies away.
I didn't believe that I could one day forget my birthday, it sounds crazy but ever since my life change, everything about me changed as well, all I can think now is, getting back what was stolen from me.
"Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to you".
Aunt walks into my room with a whole cake in her hand, she slowly placed it, on top of the table and veered back to me.
"Come on, what are you waiting for, cut the cake". She says to me.
"Okay, aunt!" I wore my flip-flops veering close to where the cake was placed, I closed my eyes to make a wish, after that, sliced the cake into two sides and fed aunt a slice of it.
"Happy birthday my child"
She feds me as well, cleaning off the particles of the cake from my lips.
"Thank you, Aunt!" I placed a kiss on her lips with a weak smile, as she noticed something out of the ordinary, "are you okay" aunt inquired, and if I tell her what happens it might get her tensed but no! I need her to be of a calm mind and besides it, just a dream, "smiles".
"Yes aunt I am okay" I weaved out a lie to her, strolling into the restroom.
An hour later, I walked out of my room dressed and ready for my second day at my job, aunt sat on the couch and eyed me suspiciously, she knows that I held back my main reason for my weird behavior towards her
"Karol, hold on !"
My feet froze the moment she calls out my name, veering my eyes back to her suspicious gaze.
"Tell me something? Is everything okay? Why are you acting weird?" She copies back her initial words to me with a worried yet suspicious look on.
I smiled at her, thus sensing the look she had on, I need not add up to her worries, yet again hide the truth from her.
"I am okay aunt! Do not worry about me, I am only exhausted that's all".
Aunt pulled a step backward eyeing me, "are you sure! You do know you can tell me anything". She says idling for my response.
