Chapter 75: Chapter 75

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as the group assembled at the base of the mountain. The morning air was crisp and cool, a stark contrast to the nervous excitement buzzing among them. Liam, looking both determined and slightly overwhelmed, had a map in one hand and a checklist in the other.

"Alright, everyone," Liam began, trying to project confidence. "I have got the route planned out. It should take us about four hours to reach the top, with a couple of breaks along the way."

"Sounds good, Captain Fredrick! Lead the way!" Zahir clapped him on the back, nearly knocking the map out of his hands.

"Yeah, just make sure you don’t lead us into a bear’s den or something." Zian said grinning, adjusting his backpack.

Liam rolled his eyes but smiled.

"Don’t worry, I double-checked the route. No bears, just beautiful scenery and a good workout."

Emma, Emily, Emil, Izzy and Zada all fell in line, with Zada giving Liam an encouraging nod.

"You have got this, Liam. We believe in you." Zada said.

With a final check of their supplies and a quick team huddle, they set off on the trail. The initial stretch was easy, winding through a dense forest with sunlight filtering through the canopy. The group chatted amiably, the sound of their laughter mingling with birdsong.

As they reached a steeper incline, the pace slowed, and the conversation turned to playful banter. Zahir started teasing Liam again.

"So, Liam, if this was a movie, would you be the hero leading us to safety or the comic relief tripping over a rock?"

Liam shot him a look.

"Probably both, knowing my luck. But I would still get us there." He said.

"Just don’t break an ankle. We’re counting on you." Zian said with a laugh.

About an hour into their trek, they came to a small clearing with a stunning view of the valley below. They paused for a break, sipping water and taking in the scenery. Emily took out her phone, snapping pictures.

"This place is amazing. I am glad we are doing this."

Zahir nodded, then turned to Emily with a mischievous grin.

"You better don’t drop your phone down the cliff. Nobody is going to rescue it for you."

"And you better hope you don’t run out of breath trying to keep up with us." Emily said, glaring at him.

"Please, I am in peak physical condition." Zahir said with a scoff.

"Peak physical condition? More like peak delusion." Emily said sarcastically..

Zahir feigned offense, clutching his chest dramatically.

"You wound me, Emily. You wound me deeply."

Emma giggled, and Zian shook his head, amused.

"Alright, you two. Save the energy for the hike. We have got a long way to go."

As they continued their ascent, the trail grew steeper and more challenging. Roots and rocks jutted out, making the path tricky to navigate. At one particularly tricky spot, Emma stumbled, and Zian quickly reached out to steady her.

"Thanks, Zi - Zi.," Emma said, a bit breathless.

"No problem," Zian replied with a smile. "Just watch your step. We don’t want any twisted ankles."

"You okay, Liam? You have been pretty quiet." Zada, walking beside Liam, glanced at him with concern.

"Yeah, just focused on making sure we stay on track. And trying not to embarrass myself." Liam said, wiping sweat from his brow.

"You are doing great. And even if you did embarrass yourself, I would still love you." Zada said with a smile.

"Thanks, Mirrie. That helps." Liam chuckled.

As they neared the halfway point, they came across a stream. The clear, cold water looked inviting, and they decided to take a longer break. Zahir splashed some water on his face and sighed contentedly.

"Now this is refreshing."

Emily, sitting on a rock and dipping her feet into the water, glanced at Zahir.

"Enjoying your peak physical condition, are you?"

"Oh, absolutely. And I am sure you are enjoying your peak sassiness." Zahir splashed some water her way.

"You bet I am." Emily said, flicking water back at him.

Liam, watching the exchange, shook his head with a smile.

"You two are like an old married couple."

Zian laughed.

"They are just warming up. Wait until we get further up. That’s when the real fireworks start."

The group rested for a bit longer before continuing their journey. The trail grew even steeper, and they had to help each other over some particularly difficult spots. At one point, Zahir slipped on a loose rock, and Emily quickly grabbed his arm to steady him.

"See? Peak delusion," Emily teased.

"Alright, alright. You got me. Thanks for the save." Zahir laughed, a bit sheepish.

As they neared the summit, the trees thinned out, and they were treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The final push to the top was the hardest, with everyone feeling the strain.

Liam, leading the group, turned to them with a grin.

"Almost there, guys. Just a little more."

With one final effort, they reached the summit. The view was spectacular, and they stood in awe, catching their breath and taking in the scenery. Zada hugged Liam tightly.

"You did it, Liam. You got us here."

"We all did it. Together." Liam smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment.

They all sat down, unpacking their lunches and enjoying the well-earned rest. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and satisfaction.

Zahir looked at Emily, a mischievous glint in his eye.

"So, Emily, still think I’m delusional?"

"Maybe just a little. But I will admit, you did good." Emily smirked.

"To Liam, our fearless leader. And to all of us, for making it." Zian raised a water bottle in a toast.

They all raised their bottles, clinking them together.

"To us!"
