Chapter 37: Chapter 37
Zahir stared at the girl who punched him in the nose.
How dare she?
Who does she think she is?
As he stared into those blue eyes of hers, a sense of deja vu washed over him.
"Emily, it was not his fault," he heard the guy, who almost got electrocuted a moment ago, saying.
Emily? Could it be? No way! He thought to himself.
"Is it only me or do you two also get this awful sense of deja vu?" His sister asked curiously and the blue eyed girl looked at the three of them sharply.
"Don't tell me you three are!! Of course you guys are twins. Is she your sister? If yes, don't tell me that you are triplets and all your names start with Z." Emily said, feeling her heart beating like crazy.
Could it be? No way! She thought to herself with a tense sigh.
"Zahir," he introduced himself with a smirk and the widening of the pretty blue eyes gave him the answer to the question that formed in his head a moment ago.
This is the same little packet of firecracker.
His ex-girlfriend of one day.
"Small world huh?" Zahir smirked again and Emily narrowed her eyes realising that the bad boy still seems to be as bad as she could remember.
"Is she your Emily?" Zada asked, looking at Zahir in excitement.
"She's not mine," Zahir said furiously.
"I am not his." Emily snapped at her childhood friend.
"Uh oh! I just meant..." Zada stuttered seeing the furious look both of them were throwing her way.
"You guys are the 3Zs?" Emil asked in wonder. He hadn’t expected to meet them after these many years. It was definitely a surprise.
"Emil?" Zian asked and Emil nodded with a smile.
"Emil, buddy! Long time!" Zahir said, hugging Emil and Emily scoffed at that.
"Emily, you remember me don't you??" Zada asked with a sweet smile.
"Of course, the sweet sister of the bad bad-boy." Emily mumbled glaring at Zahir.
How dare he come into their life again, Emily thought, conveniently forgetting the fact they were already here and it was her who was new.
"Emily ,Emil." Emma squealed happily and charged at her cousins.
The twins laughed as they took their cousin into an embrace.
Zada looked up feeling someone's burning eyes on her and she froze when she saw the accusation directed at her.
Damn!! Her cover is gone!
He knew!
She should have told him.
Without another word Liam turned around and walked out of the cafe.
Zada hurried to follow him, but Zahir held her wrist.
"Where are you going?" Zahir asked, frowning at the tension on Zada’s face.
"I need to meet someone," Zada said, trying to get her hand out of Zahir’s hold.
"Who?" Zahir asked with a frown.
"A friend Zahir." Zada said, annoyed at her brother’s interference.
"Which friend? College hours are over. Who are you meeting after college hours?" Zahir asked, raising an eyebrow at her.
Before Zada could open her mouth, Emily did.
"Being a brother doesn't give you the right to interrogate her like that. She is twenty years old and has a life of her own." Emily's feminine side poked its head.
"It is between me and my sister. Who are you to interfere?" Zahir snapped at her.
"I am a girl trying to defend another girl from the atrocities of her brother." Emily said, with a casual shrug of her shoulders.
"Atrocities?" Zahir scoffed at that terminology.
"You didn't change at all did you?" Emily asked, looking him up and down in disdain.
"Why the hell should I change my awesome personality. But I must say you changed. You have become even uglier than before." Zahir said and his conscience scoffed at his lie.
Emily looked at him furiously.
"Ugly? Me? Guess your eyesight is not that good. I can understand. It's natural with old age." Emily said with fake sympathy.
"I am the same age as you." Zahir said.
"Really? But these wrinkles..." Emily trailed off with a pitying look.
"Now who has poor eyesight? You don't like being ugly alone. So you are trying to make yourself believe that I am also ugly." Zahir said with a scoff.
Zian and Emil rolled their eyes and Emma looked at them confused.
"Enough you two," Emil said in exasperation.
"I mean, like seriously? You guys are meeting after what? Fifteen years? And it looks like the pause button pressed fifteen years ago has been released now and you guys are carrying on with where you left off." Zian said, shaking his head in disbelief.
Zada took advantage of Zahir's distraction and slipped out of the cafe.
Liam was furious.
At him or at her? He is not sure.
He is angry at her for hiding this from him.
She did not just hide, but also lied to him.
Seeing her easy interaction with the twins, he had asked them if they knew each other.
She had lied. They had lied.
Even Zian, the God of Truth as he claims himself to be, lied. Maybe he didn't lie to his face like Zahir did, but lying by omission is still a lie.
His two best friends and the girl he loves have been hiding things and lying to him.
Why?
Because they didn't trust him!
And he is angry with himself for being fooled.
For blindly trusting them.
He had always felt he was missing something important. He had wanted to ask her too. But he always held back not wanting to make her feel offended.
He is angry with himself for breaking the bro code.
Liam groaned.
Damn!! I fell in love with my bestfriends' sister.
He huffed.
'Why should I feel bad for breaking the bro code?? They hid the truth from me. So that makes the bro code null. And I fell in love with their sister before they revealed it to me. So bro code can go to hell,' he thought to himself furiously.
"Liam!! Wait," he turned around to see Mirrie rushing towards him in a hurry.
He took in a deep breath to control his temper.
"What do you want, Zada?" He asked, deliberately avoiding using the name Mirrie, and felt like an ass when he saw her face fall.
"I can explain, Liam."
"No need. Everything is clear now." Liam said.
"I didn't want to hide it from you, Liam."
"But you did."
"I was scared." Zada admitted.
"Scared of what?"
"Scared you will leave me when you know whose sister I am." Zada said and Liam looked at her furiously.
"That's how much you trust me huh? Fine!! Just think that whatever you thought came true. I am leaving." Liam said and got onto his motorcycle.
"Liam. I love you." Zada said softly.
"Damn it. That's cheating." Liam said furiously.
He had been dying to hear those three words from her and she says that now.
"I thought your bro code will be more important. I know my brothers are your best friends. I thought you wouldn't want to ruin the friendship." Zada confessed her fears which only made Liam more furious.
"So, you thought I will give up on the girl I love for some silly bro code. You think I am not capable enough to handle both the relationships. You think I am a coward who will run at the thought of facing your brothers with my love?" Liam asked furiously.
Zada looked down guiltily. Because everything he said was true. She really did think so. Maybe not the coward part, but the rest of the things.
"You know what? I don't want to deal with this now. Just give me some time to cool down." Liam said as he kicked his motorcycle start.
Zada's eyes filled with tears as the thought of him leaving angry with her.
He had never been angry with her before.
Liam groaned at the site of her tears.
He held her elbows and pulled her closer.
"Don't cry, Mirrie. I don't like tears in your eyes," he said cupping her face with both his hands.
"I am sorry." Zada said softly.
He pressed a light kiss on her forehead.
"Don't lie to me again. And don't hide anything okay?" Liam asked.
Zada nodded.
"Now go back before your brothers come running in search of you. I am not in a mood to deal with your over protective brothers today." Liam said and Zada chuckled.
