Chapter 33: Chapter 33
CORPORATE
**********************
CALEB’S POV
***********************
Back to new-york, the city that never sleeps, everyone seems to be in a hurry to get to their destination. The always busy streets, the late nights, the clique of friends, the new and old lovers, everything seemed to be going on all at once in the great city and having lived here all my life I feel a special bond with it. I went straight to the office from the airport, my guards walked a considerable distance away from me as I did not want to draw attention to myself. Also, I wasn't ready to announce my new status to my in-laws, at least not yet.
Junior level staff were not aware of who I was just as I wanted and demanded from my CMO and I had to go through the security screening as all visitors were meant to. As I stepped into the elevator, I saw her. She looked the same as when I first laid my eyes on her at the beach house in Miami. I was mesmerized by her and the sultry way she swung her hips as she walked, she was exquisite.
“Angela .” my voice cracked, immediately I saw her, I walked out of the elevator before it closed behind me. She turned to the left and I went after her.
She had simply vanished as I couldn't find her anymore, I was not too used to the building and I had no idea where to begin searching from, so I decided to use the stairs to the executive floor instead of the elevator.
***************
“Goodday sir.” I was ushered into the oval office for my meeting with only top executives of my different companies. It took me some minutes to settle my nerves as I was introduced to the board members again.
“And this is Angela Curtis, our new sales executive, she resumed work for the first time today.” Brad our CMO said smiling. My heart fluttered as I watched her, she acted as if she had not met me before.
“Pleased to meet you, Mr. Caleb.”
“The pleasure is all mine,'' I replied, my hands lingered and our eyes locked for seconds. Her eyes were luminous and shone with laughter, I was deeply immersed by her.
The meeting commenced immediately after we settled down. I had to put in all my effort to concentrate and sound intelligent, a part of me wanted to show off and impress her with my vast knowledge, however, I knew I could end up embarrassing myself. I avoided Angela as much as I was good and only talked to her when necessary, she didn't seem unnerved by me, a part of me doubted she remembered me, when the meeting came to an end I was the happiest.
But everyone seemed to want to talk to me, I had to watch her from the corner of my eyes to ensure she didn't disappear. I listened with half attention to Brad as he talked. I didn't want her to leave before I got a chance to talk to her.
“Seems your mind is somewhere else,” Brad said, smiling at me, I looked at him confused.
“I'm sorry, what did you say again?”
“Would you like to have lunch with us?” Brad repeated, he must think it weird the way I have been acting like a complete lunatic.
“Maybe next time, I have something urgent to take care of.'' I still had my eyes on Angela as I spoke.
“Angela is coming too.”
“Ohhh…..” I felt suddenly embarrassed. I must have been staring at Angela more than I had intended to. Clearing my throat, I adjusted my tie and tried to appear serious if that makes sense. “I think it would be for the best if I joined you guys for lunch. Wouldn't be right if I'm the only one absent.”
“That's better.” Brad smiled and winked at me, he left and walked over to the other members of the board.
The son of a b*tch just trolled me. I mused, smiling. I turned and there she was beside me.
“Angela.” I knew I sounded like a happy child. Recovering quickly, I said. “Small world.” This time around I felt more in control of my emotions.
“Small world indeed.” Angela smiled, “Well, since you are my boss, how do I address you? Sir or Caleb.”
Jerking my head away from her lips that had held my eyes bound for some seconds. I wondered what she was driving at, was she trying to let me know that our relationship can only be formal. My heart sank immediately.
But she had a mischievous smile on her face and her eyes, those eyes that illuminated into my soul.
“Sir would be more appropriate given the present situation.”
I watched her blink from shock. “checkmate” I chuckled within me.
“But to you, Caleb would be just fine.” It felt so easy talking to her, she had a warmth around her that pleased me.
“I saw what you did there,” she said and rolled her eyes.
“Two can play the game you know that, don't you?”
She laughed and her laughter was infectious. I wanted the world to be still so I could bask at the moment.
Wishful thinking though as Brad chose that moment to interrupt us, he came with the remaining board members, “it's time for us to leave or we might lose our table.”
We filed out of the office in groups, Brad was walking with me though I would have preferred it to be Angela. We were all dressed in a similar suit of black, I had a red thin tie, Brad was wearing a grey tie, our accountant and the other men chose not to wear one. Angela was different; she wore a burgundy blouse and a straight pencil skirt that made her thin legs look long, she also wore a high-heeled red shoe and looked like a perfect picture from a magazine cover.
Coming to the office every other day didn't seem like a bad idea anymore.
