Chapter 29: Chapter 29

LET'S CELEBRATE

“Congratulations ma'am, you are hired.” the executive manager shook hands with Sophia and Caleb.

Sophie wanted to scream out but had to compose herself, it was a dream come true and she could not wait to share the good news with her parents.

“The contracts would be ready for signing on Thursday, so we would be expecting to see you here before 10:00 am.”

“Okay, I will be here.'' Sophie replied, “would the CEO be here too? '' She wanted to meet the young man that had inherited the company.

“Unfortunately no, ma'am.” the manager replied. Avoiding to spare a glance towards Caleb who had turned red due to Sophie's question.

Both parties dispatched once the meeting was concluded. The elevator ride down to the ground floor was made in silence. Sophie recounted the whole interview and felt proud of herself once again, she was also awed by Caleb who chipped in some ideas when she was overwhelmed. She had underestimated his intelligence and was also grateful that he had recommended and advised her to bid for this contract. The most awesome part of it all was that it was a multi-million dollar contract worth more than any contract her grandparent's business has ever won.

Even though Caleb looked aloof and casual, Sophie felt newfound respect towards him. She wished he would spend more of his time developing himself than playing whatever game he was busy with right now, maybe then he could upgrade himself and gain more respect from his family.

“You did well there, congrats.’ Caleb said to Sophie when he noticed her looking at him. He had just messaged the manager for a job well done.

“Thank you, you also did great,'' Sophie replied. She was not the type to give compliments and whenever she did, you must be truly deserving.

“I don't want my family finding out just yet about this till all necessary documents have been signed.”

“I won't say a word, cross my heart,” Caleb replied. They both laughed at his remark and made their way to the car unaware of the pair of curious eyes that watched them since they made their way to the building and now towards home.

*************

AT HOME

When they got home and alighted from the car, they were met by Sophie's parents who were both curious to know how the meeting went. Sophie pretended to be sad and drew a long face. Once her parents saw her their heart sank but they tried to stay positive.

They held their daughter's hand and walked her to their wing of the mansion, May rubbed her child's back with her palms to comfort her. Once they got to their flat and shut the door, her father tried to speak but Sophie was faster than him.

“I got the contract.” she waved her hands up in the air

Wide-eyed they stared at their child then Caleb. “Is this true?”

Caleb smiled and nodded.

“But you both looked sad when you came in, we thought…,” her father's voice trailed off

“I don't want the family to know yet, I need everything to be underway before informing them. I'm sorry if I had you worried.'' Sophie replied.

“I'm so proud of you .” her parents hugged her.

“You should be thanking Caleb, he helped me a lot, I don't know if I would have succeeded without him.”

“Then we should all celebrate with the best wine.” her father replied

They popped their favorite champagne and talked about the future, they talked about how they planned to execute the contract. Sophie's parents excused themselves and went to bed when it was almost past nine at night, way past their bedtime. When it was just Caleb and Sophia in the room they found it awkward to talk until Sophie suggested they take more wine if Caleb was up to it and Caleb accepted. They both drank into the night and threw caution into the wind
