Chapter 15: Chapter 15
THE THOMPSONS
******************
NARRATOR POV
******************
Sarah and Craig Thompson have been married for almost twenty years, they had an only son who died during a fishing trip. It was a freak accident that happened so fast and he was declared dead immediately after the paramedics arrived. He was only 10 years when it happened and his parents had tried to conceive again but failed, this was because Craig had an irreversible vasectomy after the birth of his son even though he went for medical corrections nothing could be done for them.
So they remained childless but not without hope. Their love for each other kept them going, both couples invested their time and energy in their local church and they became quite popular in their locality. Everyone loved them especially the little children that got treats from them on different occasions.
Sometimes they yearned for a child, although they had resigned themselves to fate. So it was a huge surprise for them to find a baby abandoned and left in front of their church Heavens gate at Brooklyn. The baby’s cradle had a little note attached to it, when they read the note it dawned on them that someone had left them a child.
They took the baby to the reverend who lived few blocks from the church. He was an old man and he had lost his wife of almost forty-five years last Christmas.
Reverend Flynn took the note and read it out, TO THE THOMPSONS; PLEASE TAKE CARE OF OUR LITTLE ONE.
No name or address was attached was given.
“What are we to do about the child,” Craig asked the reverend.
“Well the note was specifically addressed to you, it means the mother or relative of the child trusts you both to be parents to him.”
“He is so cute.” Sarah smiled down at the baby. Her heart was already taken over by the little man.
“You have to be logical Sarah, we have to report to the police.”
“Yes we have to meet with the relevant authorities and if no one claims the child then you both would have to adopt the child.
“This sounds fair. I will go to welfare right away.” Craig watched as his wife cooed over the baby and hoped for her sake no one claims the child.
No one came over to claim the child after three days, Sarah had fallen in love with the child already. Their church members trooped in to see the child and none knew who might have dropped the child.
Two weeks after they found the baby, with the help of their lawyer and reverend the baby was officially adopted. A small christening service was held in the church and almost all the members of the church were in attendance.
“What name do you give this child.” the reverend asked.
Craig looked at his wife who smiled reassuringly and said the given name to the reverend.
“On this day 28th day of February 1995 I name thee Caleb Thompson, may you grow in wisdom as our ancestors Caleb in the bible did.
His parents and the whole church shouted an Amen to the prayer.
Caleb grew into a fine young man, his parents loved him more every day. The Thompsons weren’t rich but they provided for Caleb and gave him the best, they also ensured he knew wrong from right. His mom Sarah learned how to manage his curls on the youtube channel and made more friends with blacks and people of mixed race. She wanted her son to have the best of both worlds.
Craig got a job as the personal chef of one of the high profile CEOs in new york cities so he only visited home on weekends still he made out time to teach his son how to ride a bicycle, hook a worm on the fishing line, bat a ball. their relationship blossomed, they were undeniable the best family in town.
Caleb was also a very intelligent boy and when he started applying for colleges he applied to oxford and Harvard as well, he knew their tuition was high but felt he would not be accepted. It was a great shock to his parents when the mail arrived in their box. Caleb was offered admission to study business management on a full scholarship.
“This is indeed a miracle.” his father beamed in pride.
“Praise the Lord, he never fails.” his mother leaped for joy.
Caleb wiped the tears that filled his eyes, he was beyond happy. Finally, a dream come true
What they did not know was that there was an old man somewhere trying to make up for his past sins
