Chapter 265: Chapter 265

Mo Shiyu looked at the three of them, utterly bewildered. She could understand each word they said individually, but when strung together, their meaning eluded her.

"Sister An Yan, why aren’t you with Big Brother anymore?" the young girl asked, her voice laced with deep regret.

An Yan smiled and explained, "We were never together. Let me introduce you. This is my husband, Li Tianyao. We’re legally married, certificate and all!"

Mo Shiyu looked as if she’d been struck by lightning. "So, you were lying when you said you were Big Brother’s girlfriend? You helped Big Brother trick my father and aunt out of their shares. Why?"

An Yan refused to take the blame, shaking her head immediately. "You’re mistaken. I didn’t help Mo Shiyan deceive you. I was trying to trick someone into helping the Old Master by luring the worm out of his brain."

"And I succeeded. She managed to extract the worm from the Old Master’s brain yesterday, which is why I can be here today to operate on him!"

Mo Shiyu seemed to grasp some of it. "You mean you only did this to save Grandpa, and Big Brother did everything else?"

"Yes. I only agreed to act out this charade to save the Old Master. Everything else has nothing to do with me."

Mo Shiyu looked at Mo Shiyan.

Mo Shiyan, however, kept his gaze fixed on An Yan. "I apologize. My actions caused people to misunderstand Miss An Yan."

Then, he turned to Mo Shiyu. "If you’re not satisfied, you can take it out on me."

Mo Shiyu’s lips trembled. It wasn’t that she was unsatisfied; she just couldn’t accept, all at once, that her big brother was so calculating.

Mo Shidong, however, was more pragmatic. "The winner is king, the loser is a bandit. Big Brother succeeded because of his own abilities!"

The elevator chimed again.

This time, Mu Enyu and Liang Chen arrived.

Mu Enyu rushed from the elevator straight to An Yan, anxiously looking her up and down. "Sister An Yan, how are you? Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

An Yan assumed Mu Enyu knew Li Tianyao had helped her detoxify. Her face flushed instantly, and she quickly changed the subject. "Have you reviewed the latest medical records and test results? Any new findings?" Thᴇ link to the origɪn of this information rᴇsts ɪn n0velfire.net

Liang Chen, who had come with Mu Enyu, shook his head. "No new findings. The worm didn’t cause any additional damage to the brain when it left. Sister An Yan, how was it removed?"

An Yan slowly exhaled in relief.

They don’t know about the detoxification. Phew, my image is still intact! Stay calm!

An Yan nodded with utmost composure. "The other party used some methods not typically found in conventional medicine. I don’t have many details myself right now, but it doesn’t affect the upcoming surgery..."

Just as she was speaking, Professor Song Qingshu emerged from the hospital room. His eyes lit up when he saw An Yan. "Professor An, you’ve arrived!"

An Yan nodded politely. "Hello, Professor Song."

Song Qingshu beamed. "Excellent, excellent! Yiming, quickly gather everyone!"

An Yan assumed he meant the personnel involved in the upcoming surgery.

To her surprise, Jiang Yiming brought over more than twenty men and women in medical scrubs.

Song Qingshu introduced them with a smile, "These are all my students, Professor An. Later, you can have them introduce themselves, and you can pick anyone you like to join your team."

What is this, an imperial concubine selection?

Her gaze subconsciously flickered towards Li Tianyao.

He was on the phone, seemingly unaware of what was happening.

An Yan relaxed and directly stated her requirements, letting them volunteer.

If too many volunteered, Professor Song would decide who would be selected.

She was only here to perform a surgery; it wasn’t worth offending colleagues over such a minor detail.

Soon, the team members were finalized.

An Yan briefed everyone on the upcoming procedure. Once she confirmed everyone understood, she prepared to enter the operating room.

After finishing his call, Li Tianyao turned and saw her coming out of the conference room.

She wasn’t the tallest, but she was the most striking person in the crowd.

His gaze locked onto her.

The young woman stood tall, brimming with energy and confidence, a stark contrast to the weak, whimpering state she’d been in when bedridden from exhaustion and pain.

Noticing his gaze, An Yan slowed her pace, let others go ahead, then turned to Li Tianyao’s side. "The surgery is expected to take around twelve hours. You..."

An Yan wanted him to go back. He couldn’t help her by being here, and it would only delay his own work.

Before she could finish, Li Tianyao said, "I’ll be right outside. No one will disturb your surgery, don’t worry."

An Yan nodded. Having Li Tianyao there indeed provided an extra layer of assurance.

Li Tianyao then said, "If your head hurts, remember to call me!"

Not far away, Mo Shiyan turned his head to look their way.

Li Tianyao’s lips curled into a smile as he continued, "Now, if *my* head hurts, would you really drop the surgery and come out to see me?"

"Of course!" An Yan replied instantly.

I would quickly arrange for someone else to take over! It would just mean giving up the duration of my X-ray vision, that’s all!

The man’s lips curved into a pleased smile, and he raised his hand to gently pinch her earlobe. "Go on! Good luck!"

Mo Shiyan, who had overheard their conversation, silently looked away.

He had always believed An Yan was with Li Tianyao only because she was forced and didn’t dare to resist.

But what he had just witnessed made him realize that An Yan genuinely loved Li Tianyao.

Although he didn’t know how much his grandfather’s surgery meant to An Yan, she had been willing to put on an act with him just for the chance to perform it.

That alone showed how much she valued this surgery.

Yet, when faced with Li Tianyao’s potential headache at the same time as this crucial surgery, her choice was Li Tianyao!

Previously, he had harbored dark thoughts, hoping Li Tianyao would suffer greatly from the poison.

Now, however, he found himself hoping that Li Tianyao wouldn’t have an episode, at least not while his grandfather was in surgery.

After An Yan and her surgical team changed into scrubs and disinfected themselves, they entered the operating room. Meanwhile, Professor Song hospitably led the others to the observation gallery.

Professor Song had originally planned to sit in the front row, but Li Tianyao beat him to it, confidently taking the seat right in the center.

Professor Song hesitated for a moment, then, looking rather put out, sat down beside him.

Consequently, the students had to sit in the rows behind them.

Fortunately, a large screen provided a live feed of the operation, so they wouldn’t miss anything.

Mo Shiyan sat at the very back.

Mo Yunkai wanted to sit closer to the front but was stopped by Mo Shiyan. "Uncle, don’t bother going up front. There’s not much to see during the surgery, and besides, you probably wouldn’t understand it anyway!"

"What do you mean by that?" Mo Yunkai’s expression darkened.

Mo Shiyan said, "I mean that Grandfather cannot afford any mishaps right now. So, Uncle, if you don’t want me to suspect you of having ulterior motives, you’d best stay where I can see you."

Zhou Yun reached out and grabbed Mo Yunkai’s arm. "Ayan, please rest assured. Your uncle isn’t the type of person to do something so treacherous!"

Mo Shiyan smirked but didn’t reply.

But the look on his face sent a chill down Mo Yunkai’s spine.
