Chapter 17: Chapter 17
Dylan's POV
I quickly moved further into the woods before pulling my clothes and changing my form, I knew I wasn't mistaken about the scent I have perceived, the scent of hunters is very well known to any werewolf living in the human world, I walked stealthily following the trail of the scent, I moved quietly, my ear poised for any slightest sound, I had to be cautious, all I wanted to do was to distract them from going to where Ariana was. I could have just taken Ariana and left but she was in no good condition to walk. From my position in the woods, I could see two men wearing a black hood, their booted feet almost made no sound in the wood, they paused as if sensing my presence and gazed around, I could feel the adreline of the hunt pumping through my veins, it's been a while that I had some excitement, hunters are the biggest problem of our kind, most werewolves fear to wander for fear of being caught by hunters but right now, instead of fear, all I could feel was excitement, " show yourself if you're brave enough to face is, show yourself and stop being such a chicken" one of the hunters with a black patch on his left eye shouted, oh yeah, they knew of my presence, I wrinkle my nose as I stepped out from my hiding place, "oh, there you are" the other Hunter without a patch said, laughing nervously, I narrowed my eyes on them, something was off, they seem like an amateur, perhaps, they are trainee hunters sent by their boss. the one with black patch shot an arrow towards me and I shifted just in time, I growled in anger, as I pounced on the one that fired and without another thought, removed his eye without a match, he screamed in pain, writhing on the ground, I howled beating my chest as I turned to the other, I could smell the fear in him and I saw it written all over him, they should take a message to whoever sent them, "the Hunter has been hunted" I pounced on the other just as he made to run, I have no intention of killing any but I needed to leave a very memorable scar on them that would make them never to ever think of hunting a werewolf ever again, my claws on his neck, I drew my face very close to his, I could hear him pant, his fear evidence as I feel his body shook but I knew he wouldn't be able to get up from under me, being a hunter doesn't make him a supernatural, he was still human after all, just as I raised my claw to strike him, I felt something hit me, I stared at my side and saw an arrow on my side, I glanced up in Surprise, there was a third man and he didn't seem like an amateur, I could feel myself go weak as pain seared my heart, heat ran through my veins and it felt like it was lit with fire, there was only one thing that could affect a werewolf this much and that is wolfsbane, it arrow contain wolfsbane, I quickly let go of the man I was holding down, I knew I had just few minutes before I passed out but damn if I would allow myself pass out here and be at the mercy of these men, my body was on fire with pain and my head felt like it has be driven over by a tanker, pain exploded in my eyes, with the last of my will, I ran off, blood dripping from my side, I could hear the laughter of the Hunter who had shot at me, "you can run but you're destined to die, no one can survive a wolfsbane prepared by me" I could hear his taunt but I ignored him and kept on running, I ran to a distance and then I took on my human form and removed the arrow containing wolfsbane from my side, there was a lot of blood flowing out and I also know that I wouldn't heal that easy, wolfsbane is meant to kill werewolves and it can also alter the healing process of a werewolf. I would fall and staggered back up, all that was on my mind was Ariana, I had to get to her, she has to leave this woods, danger lurks in every corner of it, I could feel heaviness on my chest as I struggled to breathe, my breathing was now coming in short gasp, I could barely keep my eyes opened, if I continue like this, I wouldn't get to the cabin, I have the ability to teleport, of cause I could do that now but it would cost me in this my state, using my power after being poisoned with a wolfsbane could prove dangerous but right now, I had no choice, I have to get to Ariana on time and make her leave here, I don't care if I die, my priority right now was to make sure nothing bad happen to her, my legs couldn't carry me anymore, it felt so weak and heavy, "no,I had to get to the house" I could feel myself falling down as my legs could no longer hold me, pain blinded my eyes and my breathing hitched, I could feel my eyes dropping close on their own accord even when I struggled to meet them opened,I feel darkness washed over me as everything soon wash into nothingness.
Ariana's POV
I felt uneasy as I paced around the small cabin, where had Dylan gone and why hasn't he returned? I watched through the window as the sky darkened and thunder roared, "rain" I became anxious, what if something has happened to him out there, I felt a pain in my heart that I just couldn't comprehend, he just might be injured out there, I quickly walked into the rain and sucked in a breathe at it's coldness, it didn't take a minute before I was soaked to my skin, my teeth chattered, there was no light, only darkness and I didn't have a torch with me,I will have to search for him in the dark, "Sir Dylan" I yelled, calling out to him but the wind snatched the words right out from my lips, I felt really cold and I was shivering already but I wasn't about to give up, I tried calling him again but got no response either, I felt panicked, something bad must have happened to him, my heart raced as I called out to him over and over again, I suddenly tripped on something and I fell, I was about getting up to continue my search when lightening chose that moment to shine, my eyes widened as I saw a wounded Dylan on the ground, I gasped as I knelt down and quickly felt for a pulse and almost wept in relief when I found one, though weak but a sign of life all the same, I have to get him inside somehow, he weighed a ton and I had to struggle with his dead weight, I fell a lot of times but finally I was able to reach the cabin and fell with him on the floor, my heart was beating very fast as my head pound in confusion, what should I do? There's no one close by to ask for help let alone a hospital, I wondered what was out there that had left him almost naked and half dead, I quickly lit the lantern we found in the cabin, I wonder who uses such a lamp in this time of age but I was suddenly glad that at least, we had it, I turned to check what caused his injury and sucked in a breathe, he has turned blue, oh goodness, please save him, what had made him turn blue, only a poison can give one this color but how did he come intact with a poison? "No! Dylan, please don't die" I weep as he suddenly jerked, his head twisting and arms and legs outstretched like an epileptic patient, I pounded on his chest, tears running down my cheeks, I had to do something, I need a shocker but where? My head spun as I ran under the bed, bringing out dust-filled kinds of stuff that has been left there for ages, looking for what I could use, I finally found a suitable item, an iron breastplate, "this would do" it's weighty enough, I quickly ran to him and hit him hard on the chest with it, he gave a loud gasp and made a heart-rending howl that made me fell on my back in surprise, what was that? I had no time to think as he suddenly opened his eyes wide, they were holding that same color I had come to know very well, molten golden color like the flame of a fire, he arch his back like a bow,
There's something about this man, something I've just not been able to figure out "are you alright sir" I asked quickly holding his hands, I took a deep breath as I tried to calm my racing heart, I almost wept in relief that I was at least able to revive him but he made no reply as he simply fell back and all my hope dashed off that I could save him as he simply slides back into unconsciousness.
