Chapter 79: Chapter 79

Nov stared at the weird monster with a mixture of disgust and bafflement, his clear eyes studying every inch of the black creature’s body, and comparing it to the rest of the peasants he was defending.

The monster surely reeked of dark energy, which meant he was a demon, even though he didn’t resemble any of the demons in the hall, he was bigger, stronger, and faster, not only was he able to see him, but also match his godly speed and dodge his attacks, also, a woman claimed he was her lord, but Nov doubted that it was the sole reason for his strength, the creature was different, and the thought filled his heart with thrill…

To rule over all these creatures, to be worshiped by them all as the only God, to have them bow down at his feet, to be a God, a true God, the only God, out there in the world instead of being imprisoned in that damn island, living the same day thousands and thousands of times, deluded by a fantasy of divinity while he was nothing in fact but a vessel, stocked with many in a closed room.

It was long since it all began, Nov thought, he barely remembered any of it, he just recalled the happiness he felt, the mightiness, and the haughtiness, when he named a God as well as twenty others by the first generation Gods, including a very beautiful woman, Lin, her name was, the woman who stole his heart the second he saw her, all twenty of them were promised divinity, immortality, power, and everything one can desire, it all sounded like a dream inside a dream, too perfect to be real, and for the first few years, it was, until the brightness of it dulled, the pleasured became bland and meaningless, and the whole glow of the deal was gone, only then did he understand what they really were.

Vessels, puppets, I the hands of the true Gods, the four first-generation Gods, who roamed the world and ruled it, while they, the second generation God, where never allowed to leave the center island.

It was but a bug beautiful prison decorated with illusions, Nov thought, as he slowly lost interest in anything, even her, Lin, the woman he was so madly in love with at first, the one he thought he was the luckiest man on earth as he was going to spend a happily ever after with her, oy that the happily ever after wasn’t happy.

The loss of interest turned into frustration as Nov lost the desire to live, or more accurately, live the life he had, the frustration fed the hatred he had for the bastards who manipulated him, but he wasn’t stupid to let it show, as he saw what happened to Ayartma when she stupidly stood up against the all mighty Historia, the sight of her on her knees while her eyes where being removed as she cried and screamed was still vividly alive in his memory, and so was the feeling that came with it.

Pleasure!

Nov didn’t know why was he so thrilled to see something so bloody and brutal, he didn’t understand his weird reaction, the happiness, and excitement, to someone else on their knees, begging out of pain, finally submitting to the higher force, to the upper hand, but he knew something, he wanted to be that upper hand, for in that moment, as she stood there in all her pride and mightiness, punishing the lower rank goddess while setting an example to the rest of them, Historia did look like a true Goddess.

Since that accident, something changed inside of him, a new ambition which took him years to understand, and many other years to embrace, as with each passing century he hated the life he had more and more for became colorless and empty, except for his secret ambition.

And from then, he dreamed, and planned, secretly, hiding his intents behind a mask of docility, he tried to sway some of the second generation Gods’ minds with the idea of a new world, one where they were free, but the mutts didn’t want another world, nor a new life, they liked the one they had, of no responsibility, of humility, and servitude, of unreal pleasures.

However, Nov never lost hope, nor did he abandon his ambitions, and while he couldn’t sway their minds, why not urge them to?  The idea remained in his head for centuries as he wasn’t able to do anything until Historia died, causing the creation energy’s balance to tremble, giving him the perfect opportunity.

As the Goddess died, the other three Gods scattered all around the world, for an unknown purpose and that is when he started with his plan, feeding into the dispute between the humans and the demons through the priests, and messing with the creation energy’s shrine, pulling back the energy to it, slowly summoning it as if pulling the threads of a worn-out cloth, causing the darkness at the edges to advance, very slowly, giving the peasants time to comprehend what was going to happen, and then his last step, plan the death of the hybrid.

From that point on, all Nov had to do was wait and watch, as the demons planned the attack on the center, while the Gods panicked like a horde of chicken, without the first generation Gods in the center, the decision was theirs to make, as he only fed the idea of whipping down the world and creating a new one, to Nov, it was  win-win whatever the results were, if the Gods agreed on whipping out the world, then all he had to do was wait until they pour their energy into the shrine to use it and then kill them all and take over the power, and if the demons managed to reach the center, then he would take advantage of the chaos created by their arrival and take down the other Gods himself, their energy then would pour back into the shrine, ready for him to claim.

Nov always wondered, how would it be to kill your lover, but as he pulled out Lin’s heart, he realized he didn’t feel anything, and that his love died long ago as a new love was born inside his heart.

Everything was running perfectly, Nov thought as he charged with full speed at the monster, everything was beyond perfect, not only did his plan work, but he had thousands of peasants to toy with and satisfy the strange bloodthirst that took over him, only to be interrupted by the hideous monster.

Eren, on the other hand, had his mind focused on the man, his eyes not blinking for once, Andrea did brief him about the eighteen bodies they found, and he didn’t need to think much to know whom they belonged to, the bastard killed his brothers, and Eren knew why.
