Chapter 117: Chapter 117
Air... Something from back when she was hiding outside of the cave with Eren clicked in her head, Air, she could control air, she doubted the temperature mattered, cold of hot, air was air, and air was possibly her only way out of this if she wanted to survive.
Closing her eyes, Sara focused hard on her surroundings, ignoring the heat and the urgency to save her sister, trying to imagine the air in her head, cutting that link between her core and arm, she allowed her energy to run freely all over her body, the energy wasn't running violently like the first time she tried to use it against Eren, No, it was more like flowing inside of her like calm waves, silver waves, like her hair, she felt the air around her cool off a little, her energy neutralizing the effect of the dark magic around her, opening her eyes, Sara saw that her skin was slightly radiating with a silver light, it was faint but it was still doing the job, Looking at her feet, Sara noticed she was walking on Lava, the bottom of her boots were gone and the lava was making direct contact with her skin, but it was not burning her, not while she was shielded with that weird coat of silver light, Sara took a step forward, and the ground under her feet turned solid, another step and it was the same, focusing more, she sensed little particles coming out of her mouth and nose as she breathed, they were like tiny luminous dust, spreading all around her, with every puff of air she exhaled, more particles would come out and spread into the room, she wondered what it was until it hit her, she was charging the air with her own energy, Sara looked around her and the place looked like the night sky with all those particles swaying in air, remembering what Eren said about finding the connection with the elements, she asked herself: Why not create the connection herself?
They were one, her and the particles, they were a part of her, like an arm or a leg, a further part, an extension, but still a part of her, and just like she could swing her wrist, she made all the particles reach for the ground, the liquid lava turned into solid ground even around the demoness whose hands and feet were imprisoned into the solidified lava after being emerged into it, the demoness' eyes rolled back, the red irises looked at her through the bloodied whiteness, barely seeing her, the ashy blackness covering most of her body except of some spots on her shoulders, neck and face which was one of a dead corpse.
Sara placed Nara gently on the ground after wrapping her in a layer of energized air, the place returned to its previous temperature as Sara's powers neutralized Emilia's black magic's effect, the lava was solid and the enclosed space was reopened again, the heat dropped and the demoness' aura was barely there, Sara walked toward her slowly, knowing there was nothing else she could do, and stood above her, her eyes never leaving the red irises, the demoness wanted to say something but was too weak to do so, a tear mixed with blood left her eye, trying her hardest to say something, her lips moved and even though no voices came out of them, Sara was able to read the lonely word.
Micka.
So it was for love, Sara thought for a second, her old self was probably going to feel sorry for the way things ended and the state the demoness was in, but her current self understood the kind of world they were living in, no one was innocent, and still, everyone was fighting for their cause, everyone saw themselves as the ones in the right, she wondered if anyone could be called a "villain" in this crazy world, if anyone could be called purely innocent, heroic or right, if good and evil were absolute like she grew up to think about Gods and Demons, staring at the dying demoness, she didn't see a villain as she no longer considered herself a victim nor a hero, she saw an enemy, and it scared her how she felt nothing towards her, scared her to the point she sliced the demoness head in one swift move, separating her upper skull from her face, right where the blood teary eyes were.
Sara stood there for a while staring at the dead body of the demoness, her hands and feet were still imprisoned in the solid lava while her body crumbled into a weird position, her back and asset leaned back to her body weight but with her hands and feet dug in the lava she never hit the ground, what was left of her head leaned back stretching her arms in the process, the decapitated part of her skull was somewhere around the cave, the body didn't bleed much as it was already dying, Sara stared at the horrible scene with a void face, remembering the last time she was in the shack, with her father and the queen, after waking up from her vision, she felt exactly the same as she was feeling in that moment, minus the bitterness, void, there were no emotions inside of her to spare, she wasn't scared of the bloody scene, she wasn't happy that she took down her enemy, she wasn't excited for leaving the cave, she wasn't relieved her sister was okay, she wasn’t sorry for the demoness, there was nothing inside of her, only nothingness, and she wondered why was she feeling that way at that moment, and if that what being a deity was.
Why, after two years, after discovering herself all over again, after finding a new identity, new reasons to live for, new things that made her feel, why was she numb all over again?
Ripping her eyes off the body, Sara turned back to see someone looking at her with demonic red eyes, he was standing right at Nara's body, his face was dripping with venom and hatred as he never took his eyes off her, the reason his precious daughter was dead.
"So, he kept you alive?" Mr. Renaldy spoke calmly but Sara saw how did his aura flicker with darkness as it grew wilder around him, he was angry, bitter and hatful, Sara thought as she stared at him without moving an inch, she didn't even fully turn her body completely to face him.
"How did you get to live? While my daughter died? Tell me..." Mr. Renaldy screamed the last part but the girl didn't even flinch, it was hard recognizing her in the beginning but after a while he could see the similarities, not to mention the fact that those scars held familiar magic traces, his daughter’s.
"Doesn't matter now though, Does it?" Mr. Renaldy unsheathed his long sword, his eyes deprived of light and warmth "Can you believe it, Emilia shut every other demon out of this part of the cave so no one but her can have you, Didn't end up well for her.", Mr. Renaldy smiled, not because he had anything against the red demoness but because he was too bitter for losing his own daughter, he hated everyone after it even those he joined forces with, he didn't care if they lived or died, he didn't care if he lived or died, he just wanted to do some damage to the bastard that took away his daughter's life, and he didn't care if the world was nothing but ashes after that.
"This here is your sister I believe, Am I right? " And again, the girl didn't move, didn't flinch, didn't react, nothing, she just stood there like a cracked status looking at him with ice cold eyes.
Having enough of the not caring "act" as he thought it was, the demon reached down for Nara to grab her but stopped midway, there was something unusual about the hybrid's "act", it wasn't an act, she just stood there frozen, indifferent, she walked in the cave the cave to save her sister, fought and defeated the red demoness, just to not move a muscle even with a demon at her sister's neck? the sister she rushed out of hiding right into the death's den to save, but isn't saving, taking one step back, Mr. Renaldy chose to play the safe way by just cutting the princess throat with his sword and be done with it, he felt the shadows wrapped around her, protecting her, was that the reason behind the hybrid’s indifference? That she thought the shadows were enough to protect her sister? Little did she know that his sword wasn't an ordinary one, it was an old family treasure, the sword fed on dark magic, absorbed it, it was able to capture the shadows inside of it, swallow them in as they were made of dark magic, it was his secret weapon that he kept hidden all this long just for the day he would get to use it against the shadows' lord.
Not taking his eyes of Sara, the demon tried to push the sword threw the shadows and into Nara's neck, but something stopped him, an exterior layer he wasn't able to see.
Sara didn't need to move a muscle to control her charged air, the ones protection Nara thickened around her, while the ones on the floor gathered around the demon, covering him up in a similar layer that he didn't feel until it started tightening around him, crushing him, Mr. Renaldy screamed in pain but it was of no use, the invisible weight kept on pressing on him from every side cracking his bones in the process, staring at the hybrid, he noticed she started walking toward her sister, not sparing him a glance as if she already sealed his fate.
