Chapter 101: Chapter 101
I took a deep breath after Flora hung up. He was not going to be let off the hook easily and neither was I going to take this lightly. He thinks that the entire work revolves around him and his family then he's so wrong.
“You know, you can't keep ignoring him. You're going to have to talk to him regarding this issue,” Flora says, dropping her phone on the table.
I knew that she was right but yet I just couldn't help it. He wasn't making me feel like I was important rather he was treating me indifferently and it's something that I hate very much.
“I know what you mean but if he can't respect my decision then there's no way that I'd go through with the wedding.”
She scoffed loudly. “So are you serious about canceling the marriage? You know it's going to affect them badly,” she commented.
That's it! That's exactly what I'm tired of hearing. I was lying on my stomach on the couch but after hearing what she said, I got up ready to lash out at my feelings.
“That's all I ever hear, I'm marrying him, not his family. This is my wedding, not his mom's so why can't she just let me have my day? If that's how they're treating now then is marriage going to be any better?”
She doesn't say anything and remains quiet. “Marriage is about happiness, sacrifice, and love—”
“If that's how it's going to be then I'd prefer never to get married,” I got up and stormed out of there, walking out the door.
I thought that Flora was going to understand and help me but even she was on their side. I clutched onto Alfred watching as he breathed in and out.
He was the only one who made me happy even though his father was a jerk. I admired his peaceful nature, a small smile creeping at the side of my lips. He certainly looks like Evans and I'm starting to feel betrayed.
I carried you for nine months Alfred!!!
The thought of me being jealous right now made me chuckle and for a moment I got to thinking about my troubles but that moment didn't last long as it all came rushing back to me once again.
I took out my phone, wanting to call my mom but also knew that it would only make her worried for nothing. I didn't want to have to cause them much trouble especially since I've already done enough damage.
I hailed a cab and decided to go to the last place on my mind. It was the only place that I could think of right now, especially since I had no other choice.
I pressed the doorbell waiting for him to answer. The door opened, revealing Luis dressed in a sweatshirt and pants. He looked like he'd been busy earlier and I felt guilty for interrupting.
“I hope I'm not intruding on anything. I apologize for being very abrupt but I just wanted a day away from everything.”
He was taken aback by my presence but snapped out of it quickly. “You don't have to apologize for anything, you're more than welcome to stay in my home,” he let me in.
I sighed in relief and he collected Alfred from me, sweet-talking and pampering him. I loved my son but a little break wouldn't hurt sometimes.
Seeing both of them melted my heart and the fact that he's so good with Alfred, he didn't even cry. “Wow, you should consider having a baby soon because you'd be a great father.”
He chuckled lightly and responded, “The only person I want to have a baby with is getting married so I don't know if I can find it in me to do it with anyone else.”
His words made me feel very awkward and for a moment, I just remained silent not knowing what to say since his words struck me deeply.
“I'm just kidding,” he burst into laughter and I joined in. “But I just have a special connection with Alfred, he's a very cute little guy.”
I smiled watching the both of them get along very well. “I'm sorry for not informing you but something just happened and you were the only one I could think of at that moment.”
“Care to tell me what happened?” He proposed, and I fell deeper into the couch not feeling it at the moment.
He made me a cup of coffee and I narrated everything about Evans' mom to him. He paid attention, listening to me closely until I finished everything.
“Wow!” He exclaimed after I rounded up my story. “I can't believe she's doing that and what did Evan do?” He asked.
“Evan?” I scoffed. “Like a mother, like a son. I feel like she practically hates me and I don't ever want to get married into that kind of family, I don't think I'd make it.”
“So what's going to happen to the wedding?” He asked, dropping his coffee back on the coaster.
“I canceled the wedding.”
“Really?” He opened his mouth in agape and I don't know if it was just me but it almost looked like he was beaming with excitement.
“Yes, I don't think I can handle loving their kind of life so I think things are going to be much better if we both maintain a distance.”
He nodded in response, patting my back gently. “Whatever you do, I'd support you and always be here for you,” he comforted.
I was about to say something when the doorbell rang. He wanted to answer it but I was quick to stop him, he didn't have to stress much, especially since he's helping me watch Alfred.
I opened the door and was shocked to see Evans standing there, glaring at me with a confiscated look. “What are you doing here? How did you find me?”
Luis came to the scene and to make it all worse he was now shirtless making the situation look bizarre. Evans looked at him then back at me.
“Let's just go home.”
