Chapter 24: Chapter 24

Rylie's POV

As Blake drove me home, the tension in the car was so thick you could cut through it with a knife. After my outburst at him at Logan's house, we hadn't spoken since then excepting when he came to tell me that he'd pulled the car around.

Normally, I hated silence but now I appreciated it. It gave me the chance to think even though I couldn't help but feel a bit guilty for yelling at Blake for something he wasn't even involved in.

And now, after my little run-in with Logan, Asher was all I can think about. For the most part, I thought I'd gotten over him but now, I wasn't so sure anymore and I hated myself for it.

How could I possibly not be over someone who cheated on me publicly and didn't even have the courtesy to break up with me first?

It enraged and mystified me at the same time.

From the corner of my eye, I stole a glance at Blake whose attention was solely on the road. I blamed myself even more for bursting out at him.

I really felt we were getting close and I liked it.

Sure he could be annoying and a jerk sometimes but he had times that he was endearing and I really liked that about him.

I liked so many things about him that it confused me at times. I knew I didn't like him in the romantic sense but sometimes, it was hard to be sure.

I looked away from Blake and sighed. My life can be complicated at times.

The awkward silence between Blake and I remained until we got home. Conveniently, he'd parked directly in front of my home.

Once the car stopped, I looked at him unsure of what to say.

Ugh! We'd just reconciled. Now I had to go and make things awkward again.

Eventually, when the silence stretched on for a while, I mumbled a “thank you” before running out of the car.

Once inside the house, I ran up to my room, not bothering to even greet my mom as I ran past her. I locked the door of my room behind me and fell face first on my bed.

I. Hate. My. Life.

***

I stayed with my face planted on my bed unable to get Logan's words out of my head.

Why had Asher chosen to dump me like that? Why did he never call? Was I not good enough for him? Was I really a “goody-two-shoes”?

Did Asher do what he did because I refused to have sex with him?

Ugh! I know I never should have gone to Logan's dumb party!

I just thought it would be fun with Blake like it had been with Asher but I ended up discovering my brother and my best friend had been secretly “dating” behind my back, got drunk and I ran into my ex's annoying friend.

Yeah, my life's a joy a minute.

Hearing a knock at my door jolted me back to reality.

"Whoever that is, go away!" I mumbled loud enough for the person to hear.

Unfortunately, he or she didn't get the message and knocked again.

I groaned into my bed and turned around. "Go away!"

The person got the message this time, at least that was what I thought, that is until I heard my door being opened from the outside. Then I watched as Myles stuck his head through the open door.

"Hey sis. Can I come in?"

"Definitely not!" I scowled.

"Well too bad because I'm coming in!" he announced, barging in the room and flopping on my bed beside me before I could say anything else.

I frowned. "Not funny, Myles. Get out!"

"Not until we talk this out!"

"Too bad because there's nothing to talk about."

"Rylie, I'm sorry, okay?" he sighed. "But I really don't get why you're so mad at Olivia and I."

"Other than for lying to me, you mean?"

"Yes, other than that. I mean I get why you would be upset but don't you think you overreacted just a little bit?"

"Overreacted?"

"Well, you did kinda tell Olivia that you hated her."

"I did, didn't I?" I pursed my lips in thought.

"Yeah. So why are you so upset?"

I glanced at him thoughtfully, wondering whether or not to tell him.

"Okay, the truth is Mason has always kinda had a crush on Olivia."

"Wait really?" Myles exclaimed. "How long?"

"For a while now but he made me swear not to tell her. And I guess when I saw you guys, I just kinda lost it."

"Oh! I understand."

"But that was still no excuse for how I treated her especially considering the fact that I equally kept my relationship with Blake a secret from her and she forgave me still. I guess I have to apologise."

"That you do."

"So… you really like her huh?"

"I guess," he blushed, "but I'm not sure if she feels same."

"Well you can't be sure unless you ask her now can you?"

"I guess."

I smiled. "Don't worry, big bro. I'm on your side now which makes all the difference in the world. Just don't hurt her though because if you do…" I warned.

"Geez I won't! Cross my heart and hope to die."

"You'd better hope so, frog breath."

He chuckled and reached over to squeeze my hand.

"Thank you for this by the way. I really appreciate it."

"Don't sweat it. Speaking of which, there's someone else I need to make things right with."

I rose from my bed and walked out of my room with Myles closely behind me. On my way out, I ran into my mom and apologized to her for not coming home yesterday.

She was upset but accepted my apology after Myles pleaded on my behalf.

I headed out of the house, stopping by Blake's house before I paid a visit to Olivia.

I knocked on the door which was eventually opened by Blake's mom.

"Morning, Mrs. Weston."

"Hi Rylie. Come in," she ushered me into the house. "Looking for Blake right?"

"Yeah but I would like to see Grandma Nellie first."

"I'm afraid that won't be possible. My husband just took her to the clinic for her check-up."

"Okay. How has she been doing by the way?"

"Mostly fine. A few complaints here and there but she's fine for the most part. The check-up is just a formality really."

"Oh, that's nice to hear. I guess I'll go ahead to Blake's room then."

"Sure."

"It was nice talking to you, Mrs. Weston."

"Call me Nina, honey. You're part of the family now."

I smiled. "That's nice to hear Janice."

I turned and skipped up the familiar stairs to Blake's room.

Once at the door, I hesitated between walking in or just knocking.

Based on how things had been when he part ways, I decided on knocking. I knocked once, then the second time but Blake still didn't respond. I knocked the third and fourth time but I got no response still.

Curious, I placed my ear against the door and I could hear loud music playing inside the room.

Since it was obvious he wasn't going to hear, I decided to just walk in but I was not prepared for what I saw.

As soon as I stepped into the room, my eyes widened and I gasped. That attracted Blake's attention as well as he turned to look at me and also gasped.

"Oh. My. Gosh." was all I could say…
