Chapter 46: Chapter 46
A car slow down in front of her, then stopped, he stare at her through the window.
“Maeve!” He called, she turned and stare at him. It was Mark.
“What are you doing here?”
“Taking a walk.”
“Where’s Dixon?”
“He isn’t here.”
“He left you alone?”
“I left him.”
“What do you mean, get in the car, I’ll give you a room ride.”
“I told you I’m taking a walk. You should leave, you didn’t see me today.”
“Maeve, What’s...” The look in her eyes made him silence, he said nothing else and watched her walking away like the dead. She didn’t stare back at him or wave. Unlike the Maeve he knew.
Something was wrong then. He didn’t know if he had to follow her or just go away. She left Dixon, because he would never leave her alone. He was always buy her side like glue and now he wasn’t. He searched through his contact list, if he had his contact, but the prick was being a prick, so he doesn’t have it. He didn’t have any of their contacts. Now calling them that he saw her was out of it.
He had to go to work, and there was Maeve, he shouldn’t worry about her, she could take care of herself. Besides she was quite powerful.
But then again, he couldn’t leave, he wanted to know where she’s going, if she’s gonna he safe or not. So he followed her quietly with the car. To wherever she was going.
She walked for a long time, while he was halting and starting the car again. She still didn’t look back, if she was being followed or not, she didn’t do anything but keep walking, like a robot. It got him worried, this wasn’t the Maeve he knew, though he was quite aware of the situation in which she was in, that she had just a few days left to live.
Suddenly she stopped walking and looked back, he quickly stopped and hid his face. When he lift his head up, he saw her staring at him. From the glasses.
“Why are you following me?” Her voice was deadpanned. Dark and cruel. He could feel it, in his skin.
“I-I-I wanted to know if you’re safe.” He felt his lips trembled as he replied her.
“You should leave, you don’t wanna regret this.”
“I-I-I I’m leaving..” he starts the car but it won’t work, she was still standing there, staring at him. As he struggled with the car, his hands were sweating, he didn’t look up at her again. But kept his head down, still struggling with the it. When he looked up again, she was gone, he felt his heart exploded, he crane his neck to look further, she was truly gone and he had no idea where she had gone or the direction she took, immediately the car started, he drove away immediately, he was gonna drive to meet Dixon, he had to tell them what just happened, she was so frightening, he still had the goosebumps on his skins.
“You expect us to believe that?” Dixon asked with his crossed.
“I’m not lying. She terrifying. I thought she was gonna strike me or something.”
“Hold on, I’m still trying to get somethings here.”
Everyone turn to Dixon.
“So, y’all were aware that shit like this was gonna happen. I was the only one left out, even this dunce that came just some weeks or days about was aware and I wasn’t. It’s isn’t fair. Not at all.”
“I thought you were gonna say something important.”
“What could be more important than not know, I was kept in the dark.”
“Well, she deemed it fit. You shouldn’t be aware, she was knew you couldn’t hold it in, you probably freak out.”
Dixon ruffled his hair.
“Can we stop talking about this and discuss on what next to do, how to save her or get her back.”
“We can’t get her back, if there’s no way we can get her cured, we’ll have no choice than leave her to her fate.” Dr. Green replied Eamon. Standing up from the seat he was seating on.
“We’ve limited time to do anything.”
“I agree with you on that Eamon. But the question should be, what are we gonna do?”
Everyone nods. They had to do this, though he they just met Mark, he seems so trustworthy and smart, he couldn’t hide it, he seems to mingle well with them, like they had gone a long way together.
“You should stop staring at me like that Dixon, I wasn’t the one who took her away.”
Dixon sighed.
“You said you saw her?”
“I thought I already told the story of what transpired between us.”
“I don’t think I heard you quite clearly.”
“Or you just wanna hear me talk about her again.”
He shrugged.
“He’s lovesick.”
They all chuckled at him.
Maeve stood in front of the bungalow of Lucas, they house in which she was held bond, she was here again, and this time she had come willingly, not like she was being forced or dragged down here. She was here, for a bargain of life and death.
She opened the gate and got in, they had left it open, because they had been expecting her to come and truly she did.
She walked in, opening the aluminum door, her hands went over to her arms and she hugged herself, sheering the thoughts that was coming back to her out of her head. The hurt she felt, the tortured she had endured for years.
Taking another step, she was going towards the basement, guess that’s where they were probably hiding.
Her steps were light as she walks down to the basement, walking lightly, so she doesn’t hear a sound of her own feet.
“I’m coming, bring the injections!” Lucas voiced yelled, as he was walking down the stairs, his feet were always loud and disturbing to her but she had to endure it.
She shut her eyes.
“Don’t think of anything else, focus on yourself.” She warned, taking the last steps down.
“I see you’re here.” Anika smiled when she saw her coming.
“You made the right choice and one you ain’t gonna regret. Trust me.” She held her hands outstretched, waiting for Maeve to take them.
Standing a feet away from her, Maeve glanced around the basement, Anika was able to see the fears in her eyes.
“You don’t have much time to waste, it’s gonna happen so, you need to get rid of the demon inside of you.”
Maeve returned her gaze back to her.
“Listen to me, this is your last chance and the only option you’ve got to take. You’re already here, take my hands, it’s hurting already.”
Maeve sigh and place her hands in hers.
Anika smiled a mocking one, hideous and with a wryly look.
“You’re dead.” She whispered.
