Chapter 21: Chapter 21

Dr. Green smiled moving away from the door. He hadn’t mean to eavesdrop, he just happened to walk past and heard their voices. He hurried to his kitchen, brewing some coffee. For them. Barely able to contain his smile.

“We’re leaving, Dr.Green..” Dixon announced from the door. Dr. Green turned to them, standing by the door of the kitchen. He looked down at their intertwined fingers.

“So soon, stay for some...”

“We’ve a lot of things to do. Thank you for everything.”

“I think I’ve to keep saying that, you didn’t have to thank me, I’m glad I could help..”

“Well you guys have to catchup, I can’t stop you anyway, make sure to call anytime you need my help. I’ll be right there.”

“Definitely.”

“I should see you guys to the door.”

He walked behind, engaging in little talks here and there. He wanted to walk them to the door but ended up walking them to where the car was parked.

He did feel the sudden peace, he’d been lacking for the past days. Obviously she did had an effect on him. Her hand felt so small, in his. Each time, stealing a glance her way.

“Be careful.”Dr. Green gripped Dixon’s shoulders, giving it a little squeeze.

Dixon nodded in reply, opening the car door so she could get in. She stood staring at Dixon and the car.

“Get in?”

“Why?” She asked.

“So I could take you home.”

“How?”

“Just get in. I took you in it the other time.”

“When?”

“That time you were....Right..you passed out. Get in and seat. And see how it works”

Dr. Green urged her to get in.

She get in.

Dixon turned to Dr. Green.

“I’d to say this, be ready.”

He nodded and got into the car as well. He sat down, watching Maeve twitched uncomfortably on the seat.

“Your seatbelt?”

She raised a questioning brow at him. With a confused look. He scoot closer to her, his face few inches from her. Their body almost touching. Her heart raced in her chest. She thought it was gonna jump out. It beats so fast. And he lingers, with whatever he was doing. And his eyes went to her lips. He smiled and pulled away from her.

“All done.”

She suddenly felt so hot. Her cheeks turned crimson red. fanned herself with her hands. Looking out the window. Whatever she was feeling, was out of it, it wasn’t what she felt when she’s hungry or the feelings she get when she remembers something from her past, she’d told Dr. Green the dream she had, and he had told her it wasn’t a dream but her returning memories, something that happened at her past. The past she’d forgotten and never thought existed.

These feelings she was getting anything she was too close to Dixon, she still hadn’t been able to understand why she feels this way. The tingling feelings in her stomach.

Dixon smiled and ignite the car. Driving away.

Dr. Green waved till they were out of sight.

“There’s a place we can get to eat some crispy chicken. Love chicken don’t you? It will take a while till we get there. It’s out of town, but I’ll have to take you somewhere else....” he flashed a smile her way.

“You’ve to get change..”

“No.”

“What? You wanna go there in just a T-shirt.”

“What’s wrong with that.”

“Everything!”

“I don’t see anything wrong with it, Let’s just go home.”

“How about we get your hairs done? It’s too long, we could get to cut a little from it.”

“I want to go home.” She pouted.

“You want to go home than staying with me?”

“You’ll be home with me anyway.” She shrugged.

“Do you’ve to ruin every moment.” She rolled her eyes.

“Do I?”

He sighed, having a U-turn. He was taking her to a salon, something has to be done with her hair. So she could look less weird if he takes her out to eat with him, at least too much eyes wouldn’t be one then.

He stopped the car in front of a salon and came out. He walked around to open her door. Helping her out of the seatbelt.

He held her hands so she could come down from the car.

“Where are we?”

“Salon”

“What’s that?”

“You’ll see.”

He lead her to the salon. She kept on glancing around the salon, he let her be, it’s definitely the first time she’s seeing this place. He held a brief discussion with a woman, she smiled sweetly at Maeve and took her away from Dixon. Dixon waved at her. She pouted her lips, going along with the stranger. Dixon chuckled. Watching her until she was out of sight.

He settled down on a seat.

Waiting for her. Scrolling down his phone for any update. The first thing he saw was a picture of Maeve. A half of her face was captured, her hair was covering them making her face not seen.

Under it was written.

A ravaging Beast

There were different names on social media. He suddenly wished there was something he could do, but it’s absolutely nothing he could do to help. To change her completely from being a demon. He tucked the phone back into his pocket. She should be out already. It’s almost an hour she’d been in there. He was missing her already.

He stood up when he saw her coming out with the woman from earlier. Her hair was straightened, and tied in a ponytail. Stoping in the small of her back.

Her face finally exposed. The unravel red brown hair was gone. She was so pretty, that he couldn’t stop staring at her, she smiled when she got closer to him. Her smile, her face, everything about her was perfect.

He smiled.

Every time he sees her smiling, he smiled too. That smile he wanted it to stay forever. And at this moment, was a memory he doesn’t want to forget. Right now. He was ready to give everything to see the girl in front of him, in his T-shirt smile. Every damn time.

Ready to help the her be human agInside a small hospital in the town, at the end of the hall was a small ward, 207. A nurse came of an office, holding a file. She held a small smile on her face. Greeting everyone she came across with. Walking into the ward she was assigned to. She opened the door and enters , shutting it behind her. The ward 207, where a woman lay, in comatose. She was so thin. The nurse, stare at her and shook her head severally. Still couldn’t understand why the doctor in charge still hadn’t done something about her case. It would have been better taken the oxygen away from her, and let her died, so she could rest.

This was worse. She’d been here for years. Not improving, but keep wasting their resources. She walked closer to her. Her hand went towards her.

Maybe she could help her, help her so she could rest. Because there’s no way she could live. This was just a waste of time and years.

She placed her hands on the oxygen mask. And pulled it off her face.

The beeping machine whines. The nurse, step back.

In fright.

And fell on her butt. Drawing back from the bed. She was gasping for breath.

The woman in the bed, stare at her. Her eyes were light blue and very dimmed. She stretched out her hand to the nurse. Trying to touch her. The nurse drew back from every of her move. Then she ran out of the ward, screaming.

“M-y d-a-u-g-h-t-e-r....” she struggled to say. But she was out of the ward already.

Her eyes prickle with tears. She stare at space.

“-I p-r-o-m-i-s-e to come find h-e-r” she keep struggling with each word.

Just then, two doctors came in. Shocked to see her awake. The other doctor smiled. And approached her.

“I know you’re gonna life, I know you’ll wake up someday.”

She stare at the doctor name on his coat.

Dr. Nathan.

“How come, how is this possible?” The other doctor asked. Facing the two nurse, the one who came in at first. Stood by the door.

“She’s just F-o-u-r” she said to Dr. Nathan.

“She might have....l-o-s-t her way, I’ve to f-i-n-d her. I promise to.”

Dr. Nathan held her hands. She seems to think the incident that happened was just yesterday.

“It’s been fifteen years.” He slowly announced.

“F-I-f-t-e-e-n What?”

“Fifteen years.”

“No, no” she cried. Holding Dr. Nathan.

“It is. They couldn’t find the girl.”

“I’ve to find her, I promise I would.” She tried coming down from the bed.

She fell.

Dr. Nathan rushed to her and hold her with care.

“She’s four. She can’t live all by herself.” He beckons on a nurse to come forward.

“It isn’t yesterday, fifteen years you’ve been in here. You’re knocked down by a car while you were running. No one thought you would survive. The girl wasn’t found. Till today no one knows her whereabouts.”

“My d-a-u-g-h-e-r” she cried. She had been here for fifteen years. What happened to her daughter, her little girl. She would have been all grown up.

Fifteen years.

How old would she be?

Nineteen.

The more she cried. Trying to accept the fact that her daughter was no longer a child. She’d been in coma all along. Still she’d to find her.

“Help m-e find her.”

Then she collapsed in his arms.

She’d been so worked up with finding her daughter, she carried her back to the bed and lay her to rest. Fixing some drip on her.

He turned to the nurse.

“Take cafe of her.”

He walked out of the room. Back to his office. He sighed. Slumped on his seat. And pulled out his phone. Dialing detective Sean number.

“Hello.”

“Hello. Dr Nathan. It’s been long you called its very thing okay.”

He exhaled.

“She’s awake.”

“Who?”

“Cartel’s wife, Mare. And she’s been asking for her daughter, the went missing years ago”

“Mare’s daughter, the only child of the Cartel.”

“Yeah. I just had to let you know, you were the one who brought her in here. That night. And she’s asking you to help her find her daughter.”

Detective Sean fell silent. The Cartels. They were wealthy, one of the most wealthiest in the town. He was generous and loving man, a man who stood up for What’s is right, a man who fought for the people a man of truth. But his dead was shameful. His body was hanged in the town’s hall. Whoever did that wasn’t caught. And the case then was closed immediately, no investigation nothing, That night the all family was wiped out only the girl’s body wasn’t found. But she was declared dead by the government.

Whatever Cartel did. No one knew. Maybe being truthful was a crime after all.

Detective Sean withdraw the phone from his ear and kept it at the front desk. His clasped his hands over his head, how is he gonna look for her, where is he gonna start from, finding someone that was already declared dead. It seems so impossible for him. He opened his drawer and saw the hair of the demon. This was on his neck as well. He had to find whoever this was. Make sure it doesn’t go around killing people. How is he gonna stop the killer? How can he stop it? If he did catch whoever it is.

Taking out the hair. His hands touched the small pink teddy bear he saw in Lucas basement. And the letter M that was inscribed in it.

“M”

He pushed the chair backwards, stood up from it. The missing fact was it? Is she?

There’s only one way to find out.

He went back to his file, finding everything from the Cartel case. He pulled out the file and went back to his seat. And flipped it, searching for the girl.

He came across her picture. Her name was written beneath it.

Maeve Cartel.

Missing.

Her hair, red brown.

He stare at the hair in his hands.

Red brown.

He ran out of the office. He’d to get results if what he suspects is true.

He was right at the forensic office, giving them the hair.

“We have done it before, detective, why are you still bringing it here. It doesn’t match.”

“This is different. I want to confirm something.”

“Okay.”

He gave the teddy bear to him, he took it.

“Her finger print had to be here isn’t? See if it matches with the girl missing from fifteen years ago”

“Fifteen years ago?”

He nodded.

“That little girl, Cartel daughter.”

“I’ll do a test on it.”

“Thank you.”

He walked away from detective Sean. He waited. While hoping he shouldn’t be her. He didn’t know how long he stay. His thoughts was so occupied to notice he was already standing beside him. He was more perplexed. How come she began a demon. How did it all happened?

“Detective..”

“Is there any possibility?”

“There’s. The little girl fingerprint was found on it.”

Detective Sean. Sighed. He pulled off his tie, unbuttoned some of the button off his sleeve.

“It was her, the killer was her. Maeve Cartel. Is the demon.”

He wasn’t expecting this, but he had to do something about it. He had to find her. And he’ll find her.

Maeve Cartel.
